I have a story to share about "falling of the truck" (not me lol)...
I thought, "MERRY CHRISTMAS TO US!", since 'twas the season... Before we could even get close enough to grab the bag, one of the SUV's slammed on their brakes...Men-in-Black got out, picked up this HUGE bag of goodies and tossed it back into the back of the truck and kept right on going! 
I spent a couple of years over there in my youth and I was all over that area many times. I google mapped your location on California Ave. A large park just up the ravine Ewa Forrest....no doubt someone had something growing on the hill side..... You were on the rainy side I spent most of my time up near Makaha ........It's -10C and snowing here now......I sure do miss Feb in Hawaii.I have a story to share about "falling of the truck" (not me lol)...
Back in the day, we lived in a rental in Wahiawa (Hawaii), near military bases and their training grounds in the mountains...One day we were in the garage customizing our van, when we heard and FELT helicopters flying REAL low overhead going up the mountain, along with a convoy of black government SUVs and trucks speeding pass our driveway, sounding like the Indi Speedway! Next thing we know, all that government traffic went blazing back down our street (California Ave.) with LOADS of HUGE CANNABIS PLANTS (sticking out of HUGE black plastic bags) in the backs of their trucks! One of these HUGE plastic bags of Pakalolo plants bounced off the back of the truck, right in front of OUR driveway!
Sucks to be whoever owned THAT grow, but they probably had more FIELDS of the "Stuff" elsewhere too...

We had some grows up in the mountains too, our families were hunters and the mountains were our "playgrounds"...
Wahiawa is one of the rainy parts of Oahu, along with the Windward and Manoa areas. We later moved to Makaha, I felt like we were in HELL, it was SO frickin' HOT there! 
We lived in Howell Michigan for about 7 yrs. (CN longer than me), I miss the SNOW and the cold weather, not CN though, he's "allergic" to cold...
Ya, I got island fever after a while I felt confined, don't get me wrong I'd trade places now in a heart beat to be retired there....You miss the snow ...That gets old real fast.........you can just go to Hawaii, Mauna Loa should have some....Although the last time we were there the rental companies wouldn't allow us to drive to South point or up the valley to the mountains.....No problems in years before but they were adamant...No driving to any places on their restricted list or we'd be in big trouble lol....We had some grows up in the mountains too, our families were hunters and the mountains were our "playgrounds"...
There may be someone here in the FARM who lives on the Big Island and can hook up with you and give you the "Kamaiana" tour if you're ever you're in their neighborhood...
I know whatcha mean though about the rentals...At some point, they ONLY accepted paymt. by credit card ONLY, they wouldn't take our CASH anymore, I was like, "Whaaat thaaa...?!" 
We've never EVER needed any credit cards and didn't want one, BUT we ended up having to get one JUST for our "annual" Big Island rentals! Smh...
My respond to them..."Then move. Just move to a warmer State!" 
Easy for you to say..."move to a warmer state" I live just about as far south in Canada as you can get & I've lived on both Canadian Coasts...I really miss my San Louis Obisbo days...Central Calif had the weather I could live with. I spent 2 years there in the 70's working for CalTrans highways dept....Things change, children are born, Had a brain fart...lets move to Nova Scotia....WTF the land is cheap the life is good but the weather sucks....I needs me some palm trees bad....I got the Jones bad for some sunshine and warmth....There may be someone here in the FARM who lives on the Big Island and can hook up with you and give you the "Kamaiana" tour if you're ever you're in their neighborhood...
Funny thing about ALL my Michiganian co-wokers, they ALWAYS complained about the WINTER weather EVERY year and they ALL HATE the cold!
Well for US here in Hawaii, if we don't care for the areas we live in, we either just move to another town/city or to another island OR even to the Mainland, or to the so called "9th Island" aka Vegas!
Imo, if you already live in the States, you can basically move ANYwhere, which I think is pretty cool...Idk, probably just me...Or the joint me and CN just finished...
