I had to start harvest a bit early due to moisture and fighting bud rot. The trichomes are cloudy with maybe 3% amber. Wanted to wait a week or two longer but rain is moving in and I don't want to lose my entire crop. So far I partial harvest my Carolina blue. Wet wait was around 3lbs. So the partial harvest dry weight is probably around quarter pound to half pound. Going to harvest more tomorrow if the rain breaks. My second Carolina blue plant has the beginning of purpling. I hope it can hold out a week. No bud rot on it yet. The gelato dream I will probably harvest after the Carolina Blue.

Heres 2 of the 4 outdoor ladies, not so sure they're gonna make it to harvest. First and last year growing photoperiods outside in the north east. Every day im plucking mold, mildew, or big ass beatles off them and 3 of 4 didnt start flower until the first week of this month so im not holding out much hope.
I agree with you on that this time of year tires me right out and then when finally ready..... trim jail lol .I'm going to run a few autos next year to relieve some of that

Beginners luck I guess, I hope I get lucky harvesting and curing because I am clueless.
Well, a few tips, if I may:

Defoliate the hell out of that thing a day or two before you harvest. All fan leaves can go. Will save a ton of time and space with the trim, and if you dry trim as opposed to wet trim, it will make the drying area a little easier to balance the humidity, and dry slowly. Also, if you plan on washing or rinsing the buds (which I will be doing to my outdoor crop), it will make the drying process a little less prone to the issues that a fresh, water-soaked harvest can bring. Try to get 60 degrees and 60% humidity in your drying area. As for the trimming, that's really a preference thing, but I go pretty minimalist, and use a silicon basting brush to knock the dry leaf edges off the bud, and only trim the obvious. Saves a ton of time, and if you dry and cure properly, the smoke will not be harsh. Either way, invest in a lap trim bin with the sieve for all the trichs that come off and makes it comfortable to just chill and trim. Cure in glass, too. Hope this helps, YMMV

Is it ok to harvest in stages based on the trichomes? I was thinking about trying to harvest with tricohmes clear/cloudy first stage then cloudy with some amber second stage and last when most are amber with some cloudy. Does that sound possible? How fast is the transition between the three

It is, I harvest my tops and then the rest a few days to a week later. I don't do it to get different stages though, I do it to get more consistent throughout.

Yeah, Mainah nailed it. Especially with bigger plants that have been stress-trained, you'll have entire stalks that are like their own pants, finishing differently sometimes, and that's the beauty of home-growing, is you have the time and labor to do it however you want! Personally, I'm just going to harvest as entire plants, and harvest multiple plants at the same time, if possible, as it makes the drying area so damn stable with everything in there started and drying at the same rate, but again, trying things is what makes this thing such a hoot.

I appreciate the info, October 12th will be week 10 hopefully she will be ready to start harvesting. I'm sure I will have questions when the time comes.

Think all my big buds will come off tomorrow…I’ve lost 3-4 big collas in the past couple days due rot😫 still need probably 10 days but I can’t stop it.

Think I’ll try and get the smaller stuff to the finish

Gonna plan a three bucket wash.

So close just don’t think I can get there

Next time use Actinovate with Caterpillar killer. You can’t stop cats but it really minimizes the damage and spread of diseases

Anyone in here experience calyxes turning brown and soft in this high humidity late summer in northern new England?

I've started harvesting and am noticing this on some stalks and on the stalk side of done buds.

I've dove in to the buds closest and there is no rot on the interior of the buds (that's the type of bud rot I've seen before)

Will put up a photo later

Im in northern West Virginia, and ive noticed several calyxes that have had a an almost bud rot looking thing going on but its most definitely npt bud rot because it doesnt extend into the bud at all, just some calyxes that look damaged and have either browned over or under magnification appear damaged or bruised. I am attributing the enigma to hail damage as we have had several whopping hailstorms this summer, some of which damaged the foliage and was late enough in the summer that some of my girls were almost in full flower at that time. I cant figure out what else it could have been its not insect or collateral=damage from moving the plants.

I would add that in my case it wasnt on the stalk side of the buds it was the north facing side.

I am in va and have had a couple of my buds do the same thing. I thought it was because my little sister thought she was helping me and stripped all of the leaves off of those particular buds. I read somewhere taking the sugar leaves could kill the bud but I am a first time grower so I'm not sure
