What size pots are you talking about? I am not a DWC expert but if they are like 2 gallon you might want more input from the DWC guys.
Just ordered 10 @ 11 liters and 5 @ 44 liters.. 🥳
Excited to create/ modify, explore, and adapt.
Thinking a 60g sump that is 4x2x12 inches tall to have large footprint, surface area and room to play inside of.

SR, my only concern about your setup is leaking from the overflow. If you got that handled, it is brilliant. I'm with Aqua, that drain design is not something I have seen done and is quite clever.

You will need to come up with an easy way to empty the buckets. A shop vac for the hump, but that standpipe probably needs to be removable to drain it. That could lead to leaks tho.

Man I follow you guys along in all these hybrid idea threads and ya all make me feel like the simpleton gardener I am ! Lmao what ever happened to a few pots with dirt? Lol I know to slow , no control blah blah blah - someday I’ll make the jump -

Buddy, there is fukkin nothing wrong with the way you do it. Some people are just weirdly creative with things. For me it is an outlet. Cheaper than a therapist.

I am all dirt..Loyal to soil. Only been here 1 year!
But bored... 🤣 I have done well enough with my soil grows I can play. 🥴
Welcome to my RDWC nightmare!
I love that I think of things differently.. I need a partner to counter steer in real life though!
I do know water and how to manage a system of over 100 buckets or aquariums just like I drew.
You guys are catching on! 💪 The old man stick figure drawing I took a picture of helped see inside my head.
Thers lots of space, you should see some of the shit! 😲 🤷‍♂️
@SweetLeafGrow , yea all on one sump unless different strains dictate a second sump which is really no biggy to me. Might just go with 2 separate systems still? 🤷‍♂️This system my way allows as many sites as you can fit.
@Moe.Red the oveflow whether it is perfect or leaks will still only flow water out the drain cock. The overflow pipes how I see it will be pressure fit.
Hopefully it will seal like a pipe shoved into a bulkhead, but plan b is to drill a larger hole where drain is and install a bulkhead.
That is what swayed me to these buckets. I may not need to buy and install 15 bulkheads.
One thing is for sure. We will see!

I will have TOTAL control of the input and output of each bucket. Beyond that I will be able to raise or lower the water level as I choose in each bucket independently.
And yup Aman, the sump is the only place where water level will eve change.
I can float valve it maybe or gravity hook up a auto top off if 40+gallons doesn't last long.
I have NO intention of this system needing more than weekly maintenance.

One thing you might want to look into further SR, I have read where the fluid dynamics of these systems want even numbered mulitples, ie 2, 4, 8, 16 etc. Something about the flow being equalized when the numbers are kept in such a ratio amongst themselves. If I remember right, I think it was Moe mentioned something about this and I had also remembered reading it or hearing about it elsewhere. If you look at the systems PAH puts out, he does follow this convention of numbers of plant sites in the system. Hoping someone can verify or deny any truth to this idea.

honestly other than maybe some small tweaks as with anything new i really like the idea. i have several small ideas i think could make slight improvements

I kind of want to laugh. I have no clue how to grow hydro like you guys[ thank God you are here] , the pump shit I got!
I will use gate valves for water and air and probably build a couple mainfolds so each I can have multiple lines.
To control the flow in to each bucket will require a valve for each bucket fed off one main line. The drain is all garvity and just needs to be installed correctly. Pump dictates flow.
I ran over 150 airstones in my fish room[ 70+ tanks] with 2 air pumps. All each tunable to a bubble!
I may fail growing, but my water and air will flow without issue and how I want. That is the stuff I know...

Love all you guys coming to help the noob.

I totally get it now.

The shape of the bucket is clever for your purposes, even with a downward facing drain they still sit on the floor.

10 @ 11 liters and 5 @ 44 liters

So 3 gal and 11.6 gal.

I don't get the size difference. And you have something else 2x4x12 (I'm guessing a fish tank) for the res. Actually you are more of a sump here. What goes in there? Pump? Chiller, probes, air? Doing anything like auto top off?

If I am picturing this right you are going to have a very short standpipe before you are into netpot with only a 3 gal bucket. You planning on doing multiple smaller plants? The other end of the spectrum is what @smokedareefer does with his grow room.

So for the sump/ res I would like to use a 60g aquarium. I'll paint / cover it to protect from light.
I see the pump [ jeboa DC] and airstones along with a gyre for circulation probably.
Sponges for beneficial bacteria instead of bio balls or bio home blocks. The sponges are superior [ again this is what I know].
I have a chiller[ hopefully it works] but have no problem getting a new one. I know I will need it.
Water will run out of the room[ 20x6] to the res. in lung room by gravity. The buckets will need tables to raise them above the res.
That is why I lean to the 60g tank. It is 12 inches high. Like to keep it as low and large as possible.
For water monitoring I have a new HM500 just like SweetLeafGrow. Will get 2 if I run two sumps.
My fishy past has me loyal to HM, they make good equipment.
For the room I have AC/Heat unit that keeps room wherever I want, AC infinity fans and controllers 4,6,8 inch.
I have a digitally controlled humidifier, and Inkbird monitors for my CO2 tank , the heat/ AC and for water temp.
I am still building in my mind and creating.
I don't mind investing in my hobby. I have not paid for pot in over a year, I have a NugSmasher, LevoC, 4-piece screens for sifting.
I enjoy my time with the plant.
I could run all the buckets together or the 11s and 44s separate.
They will only hold as much water as I desire.

So my next question is how much flow/ GPH per bucket for recirculating systems?

4x-10x the volume of water the system holds
