I don't have the patience to look after 100 seedlings... or the space... or the pots and dirt... or the seeds lol.
Would have been a lot easier without the paper towel step. It's been relatively easy since. Transplanting will take some time, but only 20 are making it to that step.

Soaking in a cup of water or water and peroxide at a 2 to 1 or 1.5 to 1 ratio has always worked way better for me than paper towels.

Its a lot of compounded mistakes. Paper towels instead of soak, peat cups instead of solo cups and heat/humidity that barely keeps them alive. But they will make it eventually, especially if you get those numbers up to 80° 60%.
I'm never doing paper towels unless I have so few rare seeds that I must target them....

I won't soak unless I get seeds that are old or particularly difficult......going directly into peat cups is exactly the way I'm going. I'm not against plastic cups, but these give extra air flow, and I don't have to pop them out.

I'll do 75 degrees for seedlings but that's my final offer. ;). 70+ once they establish.

They're doing fine, just slow, and that's fine, I've had to wait longer than I thought for the electrician......they're picking up now.

When I grew years ago in 3gal pots I planted directly into them, never transplanted, and that was great. It's an apartment so that reduced the mess of dealing with soi. I even re-veged and got a 2nd harvest from the same plants.

I've never seen the need for that, unless they were difficult seeds, so none of the above. Directly into cups. And peroxide for my teeth. ;)

I'm donating 50 crates of paper towels......

I mean the peroxide isn't necessary, but it helps soften the shell... they usually pop like overnight or within 2 days in a soak if they're going to, and take like a week or more direct sow and my success rate has always been lower with direct sowing, but to each thier own... what works for you is best for you.😊 I don't like paper towels because they dry too fast and the roots can get stuck to them and damaged.

I soaked all my seeds this time and didnt go with my usual paper towel method. First time in 5 years all the seeds i put it the first time popped. I planted 9 seeds and have 9 seedlings. Will never use the paper towel method again.

I had like a 99% pop rate with paper towels, but I used to have a high pop rate without it. The problem was that even as 72 hours started becoming 80 hours, the roots started drilling through the paper towels and I had to start working around them with scissors......what a pain.....

I will use paper towels if I have very few seeds and I really need control. But other than that, right into good fluffy soil cups, I want to try to point them in the right direction, but seeds will do just fine if you plant them into a good soil environment.

So check this out.......we've been slowly moving stuff from the apartment to the house upstate, emptying out the apartment because it's going to be renovated soon. I got to my old trunk, which had all the old High Times and other magazines and memories and stuff.....

Last night I finally emptied it out, and there at the bottom.......4 seeds.

I don't know for sure, and these are at least 25 years old, but it's very possible these are the old Skunk #1 and Northern Lights genetics I grew back then.

I'm here... but only if you follow my diaries back. 🤣 Just started my outdoor one. There's only a few folks that follow diaries, so they're usually pretty low traffic affairs. We like the juicy stuff, like watching someone crash and burn... then somehow recover with advice from the forum... or not. 🤣
USEWMEEN.... 🤣

If I could do a group project......

I'd be beyond lucky to get 1 pop, and I'm not sure what it is except I don't think I would have put bag seeds in my trunk.....

I agree. I can dispose of them properly so that you don't have to face the disappointment of your bean not sprouting..... 😛

Well, these 4 old seeds I found probably call for a peroxide solution to start......I've gotta give them every chance they have. I forget who it is here that popped some old seeds a friend had given him......he should be getting near the end.

So yeah, besides nice warm temps, maybe a soak is in order......I'll do them soon because whatever they are I want to put them outdoors.

Yeah I've been following his journal. I haven't checked in a while, is he near harvest? I'll check it out.

If only these 4 were in the fridge and not loose in a trunk with 30 summers gone by.... :(. We'll see.
