Shady Lessons and Feedings…
Damn shady here I was wondering what you were up to and you come out of the cuts with this Sentinel Master ay? Dude that is one super bad ass controller man! Very nice features. I bet you are loving that thing:heart
And you have certainly been doing some work in the veg tent to. Haven't been wasting your time at all I see. Nice job man!
Interesting how the MxB leaf closer to the light is deficient in mg but the one on the outer perimeter is not. Would you say that is because the leaf closer to the light is photosynthesizing at a higher rate so it's requirements are slightly higher then the other leaf? I have noticed that when I see deficiencies they tend to be on the leaves closer to the light.
Jesus Shady! Ur clone rac looks away better than harboriside one ahah, u could run a dispensarie with that collection thats for sure.
I dont know but from pics ur ROG#3 looks similar to my ROG#3 and thats cool! Hows the smell on them?
Everythink looks so DANK! The OG Kush look str8 fire indeed, i love those cotton frozt covered hard nuggs...
Is that sentinel controller inside ur grow room? i see the red light thats why i was wondering.
justiceman i see ur point but im not sure its exactly right although it could be. A huge feeder will show def signs even if she not under the light, if she's not fed as needed IME. But maybe its diferent depending on strain and phenos...Will see what Shady thinks of this.
I really appreciate the positive vibes and kind words of encouragement fellas! The Sentinel is in the bedroom cuz it's bright... I had to cover the LED panel with electrical tape, but they should really think about making a dimming switch.
Yeah I've been busy in the background trying to keep everything on track, but I'm far from perfect... I agree with both of you to some extent. How correct we are is hard to verify... I believe there are several issues at hand. First the leaves in the center of the scrog are the ones affected the most. It seems as though the light was too close... not creating a burn, but it does seem like the leaves are photosynthesizing at a faster rate. Leaves of the same plants in the perimeter seem perfect, but I can tell that they are not far behind in exhibiting these same deficiencies... IDK, maybe the rare Zinc def? I noticed that none of my nutrient profile contains Zinc... :wondering I'm running DTW so the pH is consistent... possibly too low to lockout Magnesium, which is why I raised it to 5.8 last week, and I raised the light to be 14" from the top of the colas.
dam shady tuff ass upgrades!
Glad you like them winta! :rock
snap on that oscilating tower fan thingy, i have the same one!
Looking smart bro, you got any plans to use LED's for flowering?
Sweet! That oscillating fan is perfect for the Sun Hut and the lower canopy... I just need to figure out how to clip on my small 6" fan for the upper canopy now. :thinking
Yeah, the LED's are for a test grow... The lights were flipped to 12/12 on 5/17/10. :flower
I find a bit of utility is this technique. I also find it doesn't work for other things, but it's kinda cool for fading the background. I think I am lucky to be able to turn off the HPS and just use the 400MH alone @ 50%.
That LED tent setup is done very well. I can't wait to see how things go! How cool!
I agree... the pure dark shots are good for a few closeups. Not very necessary if you know how to use Photoshop though. Thx for the props on the LED tent setup... Hope to see you in my test grow journal. :cool
Shady things are looking tight as always man. You got me thinking with that sentinel timer. I looking at bringing in co2 soon and I'm gonna need something to run it at optimal levels. Also looking into a DWC/MPB/UC system. But to do what I want I'm gonna need MORE POWER.
Thx Socachi! Hmmm, there's so much I'd like to do, but I absolutely agree on the proper electrical service and breakers... :icon_dizzy: Seems like the A/C needs to be on a separate service from the lights. Everything else can go on the third service, but that's for large setups... The Sentinel is great, but it's simply a very nice timer with the ability to control several diff devices. They make total environment controllers that will dose CO2 appropriately.
Looking at your ish Shady make me want to say to all these big time growers, "suck my nuts." LOL Mods please don't ban me for that, I am just trying to express how sick Shady's skills are.
hahahahah you are killin it my friend.
LMAO, in my book Shady AKA Psycho Grower, in the best way possible.
Sorry for rambling mate, my current stash is mighty nice and it makes me blabber ;)
Have a good one my good friend. :sick0018::
Ahh man... Must be some kind dank you're blazin'... :itwasntme Thx for the props, but I'm pretty ghetto compared to the pros here. I'm just trying to do the best with what I've got. I'm striving for perfection in an imperfect environment...
Shady you got me jealous with every update homie. This is for sure one of the top 5 grow threads on the site IMO. Just dank bro.
What's good brah! Thx for the very kind words... Geez, you're making me blush... :blush

Shady Lessons and Feedings…
I’ll start with the shady news first… I culled Sensi Skunk #1 as it was a runt and I may cull the DUD #3 in hydroton as it is also too small. Both of these plants and the OG Kush in coco (front right corner) were too small at the flip. In reality these were last minute replacements for the
707 Headband clones that I culled before Round 5 began. Next time, I’ll have a full table of properly vegged plants to begin a round...
Additionally, I damaged the roots of the DUD #3 in hydroton when using the drip line stakes. If this plant was larger, the roots would have been established and not affected by the stakes. You can see the remaining DUD #3 in the following shot… It’s the short one, with very yellow leaves, on top of the 3 gal pot (front row, being shaded by the MxB).

I must say, that I’ve experienced my fair share of mistakes and will continue to learn from them. Staying humble seems to be the name of the game when I keep trying new mediums… Over the last week I’ve been fine tuning the irrigation setup, including the duration and intervals of feeding. Initially I only had one drip line to each pot, so I’ve added a T splitter and two 6” lines to each pot, including some drip stakes that I’m trying out…

IMO after 4 weeks of hand watering with full coverage, the use of a single drip line along with the reduced watering and low PPM’s in Wk #5 has contributed to deficiencies in Nitrogen and Magnesium. To further complicate things, it’s possible that there is lockout occurring from too much Potassium and Calcium... Or maybe there is simply not enough food. So, I ran a nutrient profile of last week’s mix to determine the PPM’s of each nutrient:
Nitrogen Total (N)
163.00
Phosphorus (P)
180.00
Potassium (K)
358.00
Magnesium (Mg)
93.00
Sulfur (S)
49.00
Calcium (Ca)
183.00
Iron (Fe)
4.24
Boron (B)
0.00
Manganese (Mn)
1.30
Zinc (Zn)
0.00
Molybdenum (Mo)
0.02
Sodium (Na)
0.00
Copper (Cu)
0.00
Chlorine Cl
0.00
Cobalt Co
0.01
Silicon (Si)
0.00
Selenium (Se)
0.00
Total PPM’s1066.82
In comparison to Round 4, which was entirely soil with diff base nutes (Pure Blend Pro), the dosages of
CalMag is similar or lower this round. In Round 4, I encountered yellowing leaves in Weeks 6 and 7…
Well, I’m targeting 1300 PPM for Wk #6 and will have to decide upon a new mix for tomorrow’s res change. In the meantime, I fed the girls a bit of
Bud Candy and Flora Blend and then hit them and every plant in the garden with BioNeem for the last time. I’ve also been using Hot Shot No Pest Strips to keep the aphids under control. I seriously want to use SM-90 on my coco pots, but I really think Zone works better… The only reason I haven’t used either is because I’m using
Great White and don’t want to kill off my mycorrhizae and beneficial bacteria. Okay… Rant is over… I feel better now.
Yesterday I injected all soil plants in the veg station with 5 ml/gal of
CalMag, 1 ml/gal of
Bud Candy, and
Great White using the application rates (i.e. 3 oz for a 4” pot, and 16 oz for a 3 gal pot). Today I fed all soil plants in the veg station the following mix:
Shady Veg Feedings…
Summary of Thursday’s Soil Section Feedings... 5/20/10
The resulting teas are as follows in ml/gal:
Veg Station - CM:4/PBP Grow:9/FB:5/
Roots Excelurator:1 = 590 PPM, 6.32 pH
Round 5 Bloom, and Round 6 Mothers in the LED test grow were also injected with
Great White and
Bud Candy yesterday at the same rates. Today Round 6 were fed their first bloom nutes:
Shady Round 6 Bloom Feedings…
Summary of Thursday’s Soil Section Feedings... 5/20/10
The resulting teas are as follows in ml/gal:
LED Mother Tent - CM:4/PBP Grow:3/PBP Bloom:5/FB:5/
Bud Candy:2/
Roots Excelurator:1 = 600 PPM, 6.27 pH *Start of Wk #1
After all that I put them through, I must say that the plants are starting to look great in the LED test grow. Here’s a shot taken yesterday…

And another one, before I clean the lower canopy again. BTW, these leaves are seriously starting to look better. They were horrible last month and have begun to bounce back with a vengeance…

Okay back to Round 5… How about a couple killer bud shots taken yesterday?
Chem Valley Kush #4 was carefully moved closer to the center now that there are exactly 16 plants on the table…

Blue Hellfire x Kali Mist #2 is a late bloomer…
http://i858.invalid.com/albums/ab146/ShadyRoundFive/Shady%20Round%205/BHxKM2-3.jpg
But her sister Blue Hellfire x Kali Mist #3 is starting to show her sativa heritage…

And I’m blown away at how much better the Master Kush x Bubba Kush looks this round. Even with the deficiencies, the direct light has helped her shine…
