So you are seeing the sex before flower?
Yes Most plants will show there sex about or after there 7th set of leaves come out. Some take longer and as these three optimus males did show it sooner. This is before any light cycle changes. I always try and keep plants on a stable light schedule so as to minimize stress. I try and only take cuttings from plants that have not been placed into flower mode. If a plant goes to long and does not let you know what it is you can take a cut and put it into 12 12 lighting. It will often show sex before showing roots. I find that most plants will tell you what they are when they are ready. If I am going to keep a cut around for a while I want to give it the best possible chance of holding up over the long haul..

Hello Outwest. I use to be an organic only kind of guy. I love organics and love to grow out a plant naturally, but I have also learned to accept synthetic ferts and there obvious advantage over organics for some things. One of these is the keeping of mother plants. If you have the space a mother plant in a very large pot and soil is always a good option, The larger the better up to a point, I have found 30 to 50 gallons of soil to be about the break off point for indoor growing. Any more dirt seams to be over kill with the avaliable light. If using coco ( I have been using royal gold coco mix $10 2 cu ft. around here) 25 gallons seams to be the dirts equivelient to 40 or 50 gallons. I grow big plants because of plant count. We are allowed 6 over 12" or visible flower and 18 under 12" per card 4 card max (= 96 plants) To give you size example I run 7200 watts in an 8 x 16 room and squeze 10 plants in there on a 5 per month rotation. I could get the same yeald with 8 plants but it takes a bit more training and work, plus I like different flavors so I like 5 plants each month. Now this gives me room to veg the next 5 and leaves me some play room with plant count. To be honest because of this rotation my mother plants are usually the ones being vegged for the next cycle. I feed these the same nute mix they will be getting through out there life. Some get the cem nutes and some get the dirt and water! I try and mix up a hot soil mix like subcools and use this for the organic stuff ( read personal stash, lol) if holding for several months in soil this is fine but I found long term problems in soil when trying to keep mothers. This is one of the other reasons I switched to the continual cutting method. I have found coco to be much easyer for long term growth and if I was going to keep mothers indefinetly I would set up a 20 gallon smart pot with a coco mix on an auto drip with the full line of house and garden. I have a couple tweeks I do to this mix to bring out some flavors and give it a bit better long term taste but a good coco mix is hands down the winner in my book. The growth achieved with this mix would keep up with a few large gardens with the least amount of fuss! I have side by sides on several strains between dirt and organics and coco and h & g and it is hard to beat, although I keep trying. The coco is more demanding though. I have found 15 gallon pots the breaking point in coco for watering. You have to water every day in 15's after the first week in flower. sometimes 2 times a day towards the end so you have to be on top of it. I find at least a 20 percent if not more increase in yeald with coco over soil, all other things equal . If you are in a smaller space the difference between soil and coco is even more pronounced you just have to water all the time. So to try and give you a short answer to your question I would recomend setting up a drip drain to waste coco room for mother plants using house and garden or canna aqua vega along with the roots acelerator, drip clean, and silica to ph adjust ( I use pro tek at 1 ml per gallon) and there zyme what ever that is called. I get a deep deep discount on this line at my local shop so that is one of the reasons I use it. The other is that it gives great results and burns very clean. I have tried quite a few nute lines and like the h & g the best. The canna vega seams to build a stronger thicker stock in my experience but althogh a strong stock is important I'm not growing trees for wood. lol
I love organic's and will always try and utilize them. I also have learned to embrace the new synthetic nutrients. They are much cleaner then one's of old and used inteligently and mindfully are one more tool at our disposial. I don't want to start an organic vers cem debate. We are all adults and the patcients I grow for are more then happy with there med's. They are informed about what goes into them and make a consious decision to utilize them. They burn clean and are strong and relieve pain, stress and so much more. Hope some of this helps ya out. Each persons situation is different. What works for one person may not work for another, I am always trying new ways to improve quality and yeald .. Peace

Nango - you the mango!

I only grow for personal, so it's subcool all the way for me. Yield be damned! Love the coco and h&g approach for mothers. I've got the full line lying around. Will keep you posted.

Wish it was a few months down the road and i was giving a smoke report now. Peace

It's stand-up customer service like that, that makes me glad I found this place. As soon as finances allow, I too will have to order some Alien gear. Commitment to your product is the number one gauge I use to determine if a business is worth working with or not. This is a business definitely worth working with/supporting!
