ps. that evap cooler works wonders. I have found it will go through about 4 gallons in twelve hours on the high setting. I suppose that it would go through more or less depending on environmental circumstances. No, it doesn't make good noises when it runs out of water- sounds like a dryer alarm; ooops. Needs timer.

Shady, nice work bro.

PB
Thx for the props and the feedback on the evaporative cooler PB!

in drier climes, swampers are da shizz... cooling AND humidifying, all for a tiny fraction of the cost of AC.

You might consider installing a evap. cooler style float valve, and connecting that to your water supply. Less hassle keeping up with refills that way!
Sounds like a proper solution brah! Thx for the advice again...

Don't know if you got a humidifier yet? I buy the whole house humidifiers from sears

they go on sale all the time 100$ off. I have 3 of them hooked to my res with auto fills hooked up. Just drill a hole and set and forget. I use H2O2 to keep them clean and replace the filters every 3 grow. When they brake you just take it in and they replace it. I have had one crater so far. Here are some pix of what I do to them...
Nice mod eh! I haven't picked up a humidifier just yet, but I will look for one or an evaporative cooler soon...

Your kickin ass shady good shit bro
Thx bud! I'm just trying to stay on top of things...

Current Culture H2O Net Pots... A Shady Transplant Tutorial

Thanks to Dan and the Current Culture crew I was surprised with a nice upgrade to my existing 8" net pots. Last Thursday night I transplanted all six cuts to the new and improved Current Culture H2O net pots. I'm really diggin' the new design from the solid upper half of the pot which should help prevent any light from entering the buckets, to the inverted conical planting deck which provides a standardized planting depth, and leads to an increase in both lateral root growth and more atmospheric O2 to the heart of the root mass. As noted by Dan, this design should also help decrease the chance of an anaerobic root zone and subsequent disease issues...

I'll start the shady transplant tutorial with the White Fire #3 with roots poking out of the regular 8" net pot...
UC Netpot Transplant 3

Then I've filled the Current Culture H2O net pot to cover the inverted conical planting deck with a single layer of hydroton...
UC Netpot Transplant 4

Simply set the rooted cut on deck...

And fill with enough hydroton to reach the rim...

Shady Intermission... Roots Organic Bloom Update

I thought I'd post up an update on the girls in Roots Organic soil. They're looking sexy after a shower on Friday night with Neem and Penetrator mixed at 1 oz each to 1 gal of RO, and then I set the FlowMaster in the sink with warm water to help the oil mix evenly...
Neem Penetrator

And now for some solo shots after shaving these girls' legs and staking them for the win this afternoon...

Neem oil is the best, good for your skin, brush your teeth and a 100 and 1 other uses. I have found that using a surfactent helps to disperse the neem for evenly and helps keep it in suspension. Surfactent is just a fancy way to say

lower the surface tension of a liquid, the interfacial tension between two liquids,

so if you add a few drops of dish soap like ivory, do not use antibacterial soaps. I have an articular on neem that a good friend wrote for one of the better hydro gardening mags if you interested. I found neem to be most effective when used right from the get go, as it will keep bugs at bay, but is not a knock down killer, great stuff. Are you using it with penetration and LL?

Thx bud! I'm only using the neem with Penetrator, but I'm not using any detergent soap as the Penetrator is supposed to be the surfectant if I'm not mistaken... I have never used Liquid Light...

Awesome job Shady. All so healthy and beautiful. Very sexy staff of ladies. You pimpin hard! Upscale.
Many thanks M.S.T.!

A Shady Update... Roots Organic R14 and Under Current R15

Here's a quick update on Rounds 14 and 15. The girls in the Under Current are starting to takeoff. I dialed the Quantum ballast to 750W and topped the four smallest cuts for the first time today. I will set the lower screen soon and fill it up for the flip in a couple weeks...

Under Current Veg 2

Under Current Veg 3

Under Current Veg 4

I also topped off the UC for the first time with on 5/30/12. It is important to note that I added a bit of base to raise the pH as I wanted to slightly increase the overall pH in the system:

Starting >>>
pH: 5.7
PPM: 245
4 gal of RO in ml/gal
CalMag: 2
UC Roots: 2
CS Veg A: 3
CS Veg B: 3
pH: 6.2
PPM: 280
Ending >>>
pH: 5.9
PPM: 250

On another note, the Roots Organic girls were hit with HammerHead earlier this week for the first time. Here they are today on Day 21 of bloom...

Inspiring thread Shady.

Under current is so amazing. I hope to set a setup like yours one day, but not enough money for it currently.

Metaray.
Thx Metaray! It took me a while to get to this stage... I started with a single light setup and slowly upgraded after each harvest...

Thx bigcheese! The wood frame holding the protective plastic sheeting is 4' x 6'. This holds the entire UC6. The chiller and 55 gal top-off res are set next to the frame.

Thx M.S.T.!

A Shady Update... Roots Organic R14 and Under Current R15

Another quick update on both rounds... First up are the details on the UC in veg. I topped off the system for the second time in veg with the following mix on 6/9/12:

Starting >>>
pH: 6.15
PPM: 228
4 gal of RO in ml/gal
CalMag: 4
UC Roots: 2
CS Veg A: 5
CS Veg B: 5
pH: 5.7
PPM: 485
Ending >>>
pH: 6.05
PPM: 250

I also picked up a cheap humidifier as the room's RH dropped to 40% a few days before the top-off. This is as good as things are gonna get until I can DIY a proper humidifier for the next round...
Under Current Veg 7

Took 5 min to install the lower screen today... The White S1 #7 is straggling in the upper right bucket...
Under Current Veg 5

Then I lowered the light a bit...
Under Current Veg 6

Okay, here are a few shots taken today of the Roots Organic side on Day 29...
Roots Organic Bloom 6

Also trimmed some sucker shoots from the lower canopy...
Roots Organic Bloom 4

And finally raised the light to its highest point...

The plants in the UC look a little too green to me in those pics bro, maybe dilute a bit and see what happens?

Keep stinkin' up the crapper with the roots gals!

Thx bud... I didn't change my custom white balance setting on my camera between photo shoots of the UC at 750W and the Roots Organic side at 600W so the colors are a bit off in the photos. The UC leaves are just about the right shade of green as they were a bit light green last week. I'll snap lights out shots of both rooms in next week's update...

I'm still sticking with my assumption based on the appearance of the leaf tissue. The wrinkles in the leaf margins should be taught and paper thin.

Only trying to help ya Cap'n, I'm sure you'll avoid the iceberg ahead and keep the ship afloat.

No worries brah! The girls have been eating as evidenced by the drop in PPM's, so I'm not sure that going below 250 PPM @ 0.5 conversion to EC would be wise at this point. I have major leaf curl at the edges and I suspect it is being caused by moisture heat stress from low RH and/or possibly too high of water level in the buckets. I will probably lower the water level tonight to be just below the net pots...

Sup Rival! Thx for stopping by my new thread... I'm sure you will do well in the Under Current if you ever get your feet wet...

Nice work in thar Shady, ur coco plants are raging.

Looks to me as if those UC chitlins have aclimmated and are gonna start blowing up. I'd agree on the humidity causing the leaf issues, my guess is they double in size in the next 7 days.
