Im guessing this post was directed at me? Cat asked for opinions on the seeds he was thinking of growing. I gave mine. I never questioned Alien's breeding techniques or his seeds. Some people like some strains, others don't. Ive heard plenty of people rave about Strawberry Cough. I thought is was total trash! But that's the beauty of having all these seeds on THCBay. Theres something for everyone. Tahoe Alien F2 just wasnt my cup of tea. Take Serious Seeds for example. They have the most stable genetics Ive ever grown. True breeding in every sense of the word. With that said, I haven't found any keepers in any of their strains..
I would rather the plants found in a pack of seeds not be identical. In fact, I hope they are all different. The reason I look through seeds(and Ive looked through thousands) it to find that one special keeper. Thats why I actually prefer the F2 generation of a cross. The phenotypic variation is much more diverse. The second generation f2 crosses will exhibit the full spectrum of possibilities between the original parents. Therefore in my opinion, the chances of finding something special is far more likely. I applaud Alien for releasing these in F2 form. I wish more breeders would.
Things have changed a bit from 20 years ago when growers were trying to get variation to a minimum because they were, more than not, growing from seed. So variation was a negative. These days, most folks prefer to keep mother plants and grow from clone, so I think variation(in order to find the special keeper mom) is a good thing in a pack of seeds. Or at least for me it is. Everyone else might have a different opinion though and thats ok as well.
good piece.
was kind of thinking the same thing too. also notice how some seem to not mention or neglected to mention the fact that i said "not just talking about A's work, because there are something's that i am running now that i feel is straight hype" but felt like they had to set the record straight by imposing what they think or feel, as if what they feel or think supersedes someone else's experience or judgement call.
fact of the matter is that i respect your opinion or feedback as well as others, whether it be good or bad.
i am an overzealous seed collector and unbiased feedback is what i am always looking for (whether i have them already or plan to getting them later on down the road) or prefer no matter how well established a breeder may be. like i said, this isn't the first time i've heard someone state that they did not finder a keeper in dude beans, and that goes for a lot of breeders. i have flowered shit from other breeders that people was going crazy over, and did not none of the phenotypes of that cross lived up to the hype.
also, if i am not mistaken, aren't these polyhybrids where talking about? and since when is a polyhybrid so stable? and what or how many years of proper selection does one really go through when slapping non stable ployhybrids plants together and adding a name to it? not directing it towards anyone specifically, because it seems like everyone's doing it, and would like some facts about whats been said as oppose to me assuming.
personally i don't have an issue with any breeder or anyone here for that matter, but i am not going to overlook certain things because someone's a fan of said breeders work and decides not to take in what others have to say.
as Dirk mention "it's a #'s game", ok i get that, but when you start throwing certain tags and titles on someone's work it becomes much more than that. one expects certain things, especially when a pack is at a buck and better. no disrespect intended, but it seem as if somebody wanted to emphasize on who's work not to talk about if it's not a good comment to follow it and im really not feeling it.
one thing i always keep in mind is that i am a consumer first, and anything else, follows after that
when all is said and done, i am still going to grow all my shit out and anyone else has something to add, im all ears.
