Well... I topped em and did a four way LST and the bitches stretched on me anyway. I reckon when it comes to cuttin... the bitches got it coming! :D

I'm gonna strip the bottom and evaluate the fans on the top. Might as well go for it. This grow has pushed me on the learning curve anyway, and if nothing else, these girls have been resilient.
Did you use vitamin b in flowering? i don't start b with anything that can stretch until week3. Once they get going rock it, and in veg.

Nope. No Vitamin B. Been going light on N cause they tended to get dark green and hook at the leaf tips. The only additives have been Roots Excelurator and Drip Clean. The concentration of the feed has been .7 EC. They feed very lightly. Roots have been great and the foliage has been impressive. The only thing that has been a little off is the humidity which been well above 50% and my night temps were about 6 degrees lower then daytime.

Edit: Day temps around 74F and night temps around 68F. Been trying to keep the night temps higher the last several days.

the next time i do RP kush, i will super crop the shit out of it. getting those side spread out and that center producing branches is what i like to see. they get really leafy bunched up and bud bare in the middle, or just big gaps. you can really get a lot more out of a kush strain with some time spent in veg spreading her out and getting those extra sites in the middle.

Understood. This is only my third grow. The first didn't yield much and the product was not very good. The second I ran AK48 on H3ad 6/9. Topped em once and pulled over 4oz from two plants and I was happy with the potency. These two have been more of a challenge for sure. RG nudged me to do the LST and that worked out great. Now I have three people with experience recommending that I strip the bottom, and I'm going to do that too. I thought about pinching the mains during veg, but I kept seeing those four cola like shoots headed for the light and I just couldn't do it. The breeder says SK spreads out, but maybe topping them changed the equation. Either way, lots of lessons learned. This has been a good run regardless of the yield thanks to some good and timely insights from folks here on the farm. I really appreciate it!

Alright, guys. The deed is done. I tucked rather than took fan leaves near the top to try and get some light on prospective bud sights, and stripped the bottom of dead-end branches and fan leaves.

The pruning did not seem to hurt a thing. They are both producing flowers, and also producing stem like it’s going out of style. Both are well beyond 3X the size they were when I flipped them… after topping… after a four way LST… with a 400w Hortilux Blue squatting on them, moderate temps, and plenty of ventilation. I think it is safe to say that I selected the “stretchy pheno.” The good news is that the secondary branches are showing some growth.

Thinking about flipping them over to the 600w HPS soon. I'm reluctant to bend them anymore. I think I'll just let it ride and see where this thing lands without further intervention from me. Let's see who these girls really want to be.

All great points, MRB. For me, as a rank novice to gardening, it has been one thing to consider genetics as a concept, and another to be confronted with the reality. These girls are wildly different beasts than the NL and AK48 plants I grew. And they seem determined to express themselves as tall, leggy super models. Lesson learned!

From the breeder, Reserva Privada, describing their Sour Kush:

"She doesn’t grow as tall as Sour Diesel or as stretchy as the OG Kush and is not so picky with the nutrients."

Do Sour D or OG typically more than triple in height after the flip to 12/12? Cause these things have already tripled and are still stretching on day 19.

Hi MRB

400w MH, Air cooled hood about 7 inches away from the tops. Temps about 72-74F degrees at the canopy. Good ventilation.

Just occurred to me... if you count the part of the stem that runs horizontally after the LST during veg, and add that to the 9" vertical height when I flipped em... That comes to around 12 inches or so. Do you think that horizontal section of stem counts for anything regarding how we estimate the stretch?

Ya gotta do what ya gotta do! If anything it may improve yield as more light can now reach lower down the main stalks!
I'm gunna throw a net over mine I think if they gunna go x3.
I have 2 different phenos, 2 that are all stalk and hardly any side branches and 3 that branch quite well!
Will top em soon to slow down the totem poles! :D
