OK, I should have said this before . . .
This batch took a little more than 3 bottles of iso. I had small bottles from the drug store. 2 of them were 91% but ran out and used a bottle of 70% to finish up. Lots of water in there and I'm figuring that's why it took so long to evap. Next batch will be with the 99.5% I just got and should come out better. I also used a grease splatter screen set on top to keep out dust and stuff while it was evapping.

I used fresh frozen trim and I put the iso in the freezer too (thanks for that tip!) Shake for about 20 seconds in quart mason jars and strained in this all-glass coffee pot. Even though this one has a "strainer", I added a couple coffee filters too. Then poured everything in 1 pan.

This is a mix of all my 2016 plants: Granddaddy Purple, Deep Purple, Ultimate Purple, Purple Afghan Kush, Sugar Black Rose, Granddaddy Blue (my own cross GDPxBlueberry) and Ultraviolet (my own cross GDPxOGK).
Some serious PURPLE ISO HASH!!
Most all the plants turn purple and several of them have purple trics. Not sure if it's so dark because of that or because of contaminants but DAMN!! This is good stuff and I don't usually care for hash - always tastes like I'm smoking silly putty. I like this WAY more than the bubble hash I was making.

Thanks guys for all the tips and pics sure do make things easier!

I just got a silicone baking pan and will use that next time - won't have to scrape with a razor blade. Hoping it just comes out easy. Will post how that goes when I get another batch going. You have to put a tray or cookie sheet under it to support it but all that scraping (especially the corners) was driving me nuts!!

Big fat slobbery kisses to you guys. I love this place - everyone is happy to help out and give advise. And if I can do this, anyone can!!

Is it normal to be this dark? Seems everyone else's comes out that nice light amber color.
There is a chance you didnt strain it fast enough and it pulled chlorophyll OR you cooked at too high of a temp. When you do use the good 99% iso you want to work really quick and turn down the heat a bit. Other than those 2 possibilities its probably just fine... your slab is pretty thick and the thinner you make it the lighter the color it looks.

water isn't your friend, use dry frozen trim, imo.

I just got a silicone baking pan and will use that next time -
I'll be interested to see if the iso has any degrading effect on the silicone because of the amount of time the iso is in contact with the silicone before it is evaporated off.

the consistency of yours is different than what i get. theres no way i would handle mine with bare fingers, as in really sticky.

is yours at room temp or was the cup cake container in the freezer?

I keep mine in the freezer - it's too sticky and soft to handle at room temp. Easy to break off a small piece when it's cold.
I think using dry would be better too. I had fresh frozen since that's what I usually work with when making bubble hash.

if the iso has any degrading effect on the silicone
Great point! I just did some checking on the silicone pans. They are NOT solvent proof so maybe I better just keep that pan for brownies.

If you don't care to waste all your iso, perhaps this will work for you too.

20161212 140417 001

The entire glass assembly out of Hong Kong for $36 delivered.

Iso losses are only what I couldn't squeeze out of the veg.

As to extraction time and temp.
I have made a few runs where I soaked cold for a time then went back and processed the remainder after it had soaked for or an hour.
The two products came out much the same with the larger portion being the second portion.
So a quick wash leaves LOTS of oil behind.

Ran my last batch with a cold wash of 10 minutes and didn't bother doing a second wash.

With longer times the wash gets greener.

What is optimum?

Ive found that even if mine looks a lil dark if you smash it thin an stretch out it becomes lighter in color. But when i have globs or thick slabs they tend to always look darker then high tech ran shit. Other than a lil tad bit harsher i dont notice much diff with darker or lighter. Well, so far anyway lol

Jus my two cents but without stating the obvious..... Depends on what your using for heat? Toaster, crockpot, rice cooker etc
