for next time, if you use that as living soil, just fill the pot around a solo cup. remove the solo cup and fill the hole with a more neutral soil, like a simple potting soil, or even a coco type. when the thing starts, it wont have to contend with the hot soil. when it gets to the hot stuff...

in the second pic the bright little dots on the left leaf - that looks like water. the rest looks like hot soil. that is a super soil. so very hot

where watering is concerned, weighing it seems overkill. water weighs about 8.3 pounds a gallon, even if you only water a quarter of a gallon, that is a two pound change in a small area. you, even if you are totally nuts, can feel the weight change. the weight thing, dont get too carried...
