Entire garden covered in landscape cloth . Retains heat, moisture, keeps weeds way down...

Squash plant with marigold and Nasturtium. They will help deter the squash bugs that will kill plant over night.

:( You should see what I just did yesterday. My back can't take the weeding, so I just dug out holes and dropped the plants in. It's ugly. I was thinking about getting a bunch of straw, but if it's very expensive then maybe wood shavings would be a better choice. I need to clean out the chicken coop anyway, but again, my fucking back. God damned back. It's a pain in my ass.

I'm with you on the weeding. It sucks... As this year goes on I'll be adding newspaper to help keep weeds down too.Saving it up right now as we only get a small paper.
I'm paying $5.50 a bale for wheat straw, that shit is ridonkulous.Makes me want to plant wheat this winter.

Masonry work on the garden retaining wall completed. Next step...drainage, plumbing, backfill and then rebuild the raised beds for planting. Over 12,000lbs of material on this wall...done solely by yours truly....ugh...

The cantaloupe and watermelon look smaller because I layed the runners back on the plant to weed eat underneath.

critters took all me beans (and the replanted ones), all my okra, all my cantaloupe, yellow squash, some beets, some chard... took most stuff in fact. Only thing that doing really well is the replanted zucchini.

Got fence up, trapping ground squirrels like there is no end to them and piling scrap woods for raised beds of good soil.

Pulling first mater tomorrow. Getting too hot to bother replanting anything now. 90+ and getting warmer.

Saw my first groundhogs yesterday. Two biguns, one would go 20-25lb. easy.I'm not a hunter, that is until the supermarkets close.Anyone know of a natural deterrent rather than a 22 caliber head shot? Also killed a moccasin in the yard.My kitty found it and pointed it out to me.She thinks she's a dog.
