Zucchini taking off, only thing that is producing well. Soon I gonna be eating 2 a day for the foreseeable future. At least I can give zucchini bread away pretty easy.

Re-replanted several rows of beans, yellow squash, chard, okra and melons today. Its to hot, but a few dimes in seeds is worth it even if I just get a few. Now that critters are a little more under control I might have a shot.

2nd mater turning pink. Hope its as good or better than the first.
1st zucchini is ready now, waiting till tomorrow so I can make something good for dinner.

Construction going on around my place has unleashed a torrent of squirrels. This will be my first year without a veggie garden and I am already going through withdrawal. Glad I have friends who have a garden still. We always had so much extra that we always gave stuuf away. I am on the receiving end of that now.
Cant go without fresh HOMEGROWN organic veggies. The best.

Havahart model 1025 trap baited with peanut butter is working wonders for me on ground/red squirrel. Its a live trap, so you can relocate the beasts over 5 miles away or eat them, or....

I am going to get another, slightly larger trap, I have witnessed squirrel tail getting caught in the door so it wont latch all the way, releasing the squirrel to eat more garden.

A good pellet rifle does the trick too.

They dug up most of what I planted the other day.

Well, I like to see them running around playing in the yard, but when they have killed off 75% of what I planted it becomes them or me eating. My garden is a supplemental food source to cut my expenses.

I have fenced, tried various deterrents, chased, harassed, filled in/dug up dens, and am now live trapping. If I owned a pellet gun I would spend a little time protecting my dinner. Such is life.

Those are actually musk melons, not cantaloupes... americans just call musk melon cantaloupe....anyways great to see so many summer gardeners out there. And good to see chicken man still postin good threads. Take care

@DismalDude -- if you can find the seeds (Territorial Seed Co was where I got mine) and you're into making homemade pumpkin pie, you need to grow an heirloom squash called Marina di Chiogga. It is, BY FAR, the best, sweetest, best winter squash I have ever grown. Amish pie pumpkins cannot hold a candle to M. di C. for natural sweet flavor, or lovely smooth texture. IT'S AMAZING!
