Thanks for the info

Thanks for the post Logic.

I have been doing some reading up on breeding and that Punnett square image was a great visualization aid.

It made me comprehend generations in a way that all the reading I have been doing hasn't .

A picture really is worth a thousand words !

Thank You

I can't wait to try my hand at breeding.

Ahhhhhh... I have wondered, when describing a cross or hybrid, the first mentioned strain of the cross is always the female. So in the case of ChemWreck x (Larry OG x Red Leb), the ChemWreck was the female. Now I know, but wonder if people use to this rule.

The other part that was interesting is that the parent generation is P. The product of P is the F1 generation and the product of that generation is the F2 and so on..... what is it called if you store pollen from one male for every generation. So you have the P generation and the product of that is hit with pollen from that same male from P generation, then take the seeds from that and hit them again with the same pollen from P generation. Perhaps the fact that some traits are dominant and others recessive, makes this technique unnecessary. Perhaps that result is the same weather you use the product of products or a single strain of male pollen

Yeah bro - basically you are back-crossing the original male to each successive generation, so you'd have bx1, bx2, bx3, etc.

hey everyone I have ? I am not a breeder and I'm not trying to be one. But I am a medical marijuana patient on a budget and if anybody could help me out. I would be grateful so my question is say I buy 5 pack. And I'm looking for a good pheno to keep 2 clone. And don't fine one out of that five pack instead of wasting my money. Can I take a male and a female pollinate her. So say I have lots of seeds now can I grow them out and find a good keepier thanks in advance:D

Im not a breeder either...but im having fun with this...
I took pollen from a Male Himalayan Gold and hit a Female Bubba kush.
I grew the seeds. and there were lots of phenos..and Took pollen from this male...

Now I have used it pollenated a couple keeper phenos and the original bubba Kush cut.

if you are interested or anybody else in breeding I came across a book called tha cannabis breeders Bible the definitive guide to marijuana genetics, cannabis botany and creating strains for the seed market. I can send you a copy let me know

ill answere your question right now freind. it depends on how long it takes the female you have to flower. but you usualy want to do it semi early. you want the seeds to be able develop right. you want them on the plant for about a month and a half so they can fully mature. if your crossing not re breeding make sure you grow plenty because alot of them will go hermaphodite. So once you grow the first batch of the cross kill any hermaphs that you have only keep the stable females, and a stable male to pollinate them. dont pollinate them with one of the hermaphs. is what this will do is stabilize the plants good genes then you should have a stable cross breed that you can call your own. hope that helps red dog. ohh yea i have a awesome way to polinate only crtian parts of the plant so you can control your seeding and ruin your whole crop but still get as many seeds as you want. if your intrested hit me up ill let you know how.......
Was reading this thread what is your way of pollinating? Thanks Medusa

thanks for the great read, ive been creating seed for a number of years, but as far as wrapping my mind around dna sequencing and how to actually achieve a desired trait in offspring as well as back crossing and reinforcing specific traits, thank you and if there is any literature you could recommend id be greatful, and keep the tips coming

well red first you want to make sure the plant has about two months left so the seeds can mature. i take it your male is seperated. you know the pollen sacks on the male, well the day before they open i poke a tooth pick into the center of the pod. move your tooth pick around and you should get some pollen on it,if you dont wait and try agin in a day or two. using this method i can kill my males before they open and release all there pollen. its a very small amount but thats all you need. now hold you tooth pick inside a medicine jar or something like that, dont touch the walls just hold it in there so no excess pollen flies around. just go to your selected female and rub it on the pistols of the desired branch. you dont need much pollen. but repete as desired. after this you should see seeds fourm in a bout a week. if your crossing make plenty because alot will hermaph on you, take the stable females and a stable male if you get one and breed those together, do not pollinate the females with a hermaphodite, doing this will will stableize your cross and you can call it your own.

Was reading this thread what is your way of pollinating? Thanks Medusa

Hi Medusa and Bongstar! :)

It sounds like it would work
I may substitute the toothpick with a paintbrush.. and try that!

Hey would you guys post in my "seedmaker" thread?

Great read!
Am I understanding the basics.
In the F1 gens you can get 1-3 phenotypes depending on gene dominance. More of a combo of the P1's.
In the F2 will open the pool more and give accese back to the P1's genes and other unique phenotypes that were masked in the F1's.
So if I didn't have the P1's anymore, my best bet is in the F2's to BX to my F1 thats closest to it? Then if needed BX it more with future progeny.

What's up everybody? I'm going to be working with Tom Hills deep chunkF1s.50 seeds germinated I got 19 females and 31 males./Plan on continuing working with that strain. And I also have Romulan Jose cut

If I read it correctly does Mendel say that round seeds will be female and male seeds appear more edgy. Is that correct?

And... Recognizing that F1 seeds are the most stable/uniform and the F2's producing more phenotypes and F3's even more.... and so on..... I am only guessing but shouldn't F1 seeds have a higher market value than the others? I can see a person wanting F2's or F3's if their main goal was wanting a variation of phenos in order to select new males and new females to create a new strain but I would think the F1's would be more sought after and gain the biggest price tags.

I also wondered who held the more dominant genes, the female or male, but according to Mendel it doesn't not matter.

I am also interested in learning more about reverse crossing..the benefits and risks.
