Landrace – Kwik Seeds

As far as I'm concerned, Angus from kwikseeds is pretty much the guy to go to as far as landraces.

In their selections like Manipur, they mention the farmers selectively breeding. But it's still open pollenation, since they'll just chop the weakest males and let the stronger ones do the pollinating. Landraces include everything from totally wild plants to selectively pollinated plants. IBL's start from one mother and then are selectively bred within the line to bring out desired qualities. Heirlooms are like C99 and Deep Chunk- classic IBL's.

With a million strains a year coming out how many years could they have been worked on?

Well I've got at least one of my own, I'm continuing 4-5 of other peoples', and have plans for more. And I know of at least a few more humans that are similarly minded. IBL's exist, that's just not what you're getting from most major breeders.

Which is exactly why I started the thread here to work on a real IBL too. I want that real shit lol ❤❤

Does sound like he legit stresses the crap out of his plants to try to breed away a tendency to reveal intersex traits. Going to 18-6 for half of week three and then 24-0 at week five....i mean for light stress alone, that is intense.

But he is also a classic case of a guy who breeds for commercial growers and does a damn good job of it. That just isn't my path.

If i can catch a haze or widow male that has a shorter flower time and otherwise feels "right," that would be a success.

DJ suggested that a male who spends more energy on fiber production will probably be better for fiber production than drug production, proportionately. I think. May have been Clarke. Anyway, that is also of interest.

Widow is a super resiny strain so I feel like I might catch a resiny dad.

A quick ish haze would also be a hell of a prospect. Though with haze i would also really love the pollen sack density to be good.

Great food for thought as i observe my plants. Already spending so much time staring at them and seeing their leaf differences

While I'm sure most of the shit "breeders" are bringing out are probably heirloom or by-definiton landrace (or total bullshit), I'm also sure that there's nothing stopping people from going out into the wilds and plucking a vibrant feather... so to speak. (I took a lot of mushrooms last night, so I might be flowery today.)

Now... what I do wonder about is the impact of human on nature here. I can't see it terribly possible that plants untouched by intentional human cultivation or selection have managed to eke out unaltered. I can only assume some of that selected and manipulated pollen has made its way to most corners of nature and inadvertently shaped it.

Hooowwever... I also would think nature would do what nature do and give preferential treatment to certain traits based on their environment, etc.
In essence, creating a yet uniquely nature-crafted variety. But possibly somewhat boosted by that human selection intervention or not - but nature would select those 'or nots' out.

I mean. It's not common to breed wolves into modern dogs. But that doesn't stop people from doing it and doing it successfully. And also very unsuccessfully.

We need an AKC for cannabis varieties...

I get the anti big corporate money thing. Man I wish I could stand up and throw some Amazon co UK research data down that we did on cannabis seeds they are selling. It's the little guys making the money for once. They own the sales volume. We can beat corp USA in the seeds game here in the US because we have far superior hands on experience and we dont have their overhead. All we need is a traditional farmer's co-op structure. Compensation = Contribution + Sale - Marketing Overhead. There would be zero costs associated with employees (dont need any), offices/physical infrastructure, or golf outings. We'll kick their asses if we can actually organize.

Right and therein lies the quicksand bud. Who determines what ordinary, good practices, and legitimized means? That person has the power. And those who dont fit their criteria are out in the cold.

How about this instead. Blind seed samples are handed out. They are grown by the collective, sampled, and voted on. X % of votes determines whether it's in the line up or not. The end.

If it's in, then a packaging order and consignment contract goes out.
