We're also gonna hope like Hell this spot is open on Friday....or else we'll have to do some serious readjustment "on the fly". The Forest is first come, first served... so we can only hope that things are wide open on Friday. s h

This is what worries me the most. What with that big rig, I can't just scoot around like I would in my car. :) So I'm a bit worried about getting up some dirt road, camp site is taken, and then I have to try to turn around somewhere and without a large flattish area to do a U-turn, it ain't happenin'. So, since I won't be able to pull outta Woodland Park till at least noon, could the first one there give me a call to let me know if it's a go or not? If not, I might just not try it. In case you can't tell, I get a bit nervous about the thought of getting that monstrosity somewhere that I can't get out of.

All we can do is check it out on Friday and let you know, Melissa. If this spot isn't available I have a second spot in mind. (Killer view but far more exposed to the wind/etc.) All-in-all there aren't a whole lot of "boonie" camp spots in this area that will accomodate larger rigs. Most of the sites rimming the hills around the lake are back in the trees and are just too tight to get into.

At this point, we should probably start honing in on specific tasks/menu items for Sat night's dinner menu/etc.

We have a great (IMO) little French bakery here in my town that whips up some tasty breads.
I'll sign up for bread and will also whip up some cole slaw....

I have 2 small rectangular folding tables we can use to serve from. If anyone else has camp "amenities" they've found to come in handy...bring em along.

And damn.....DON'T forget ta bring yerself a comfy chair! (for the fabled "camp chairlock")

Yeah, I'm aware of the tightness in the Colorado forests. That's why, when we take our horses camping/trail riding, we always do a drive out there first to scout it out before getting stuck with the rig and horses onboard. It's all I've got. So yeah, if you can check it out and call Friday, I guess I could pull out at the last minute, though Diana would be heartbroken. But it is what it is. I have what I have and nothing else. So if I can't get in there, you guys will just have to fill me in on the festivities when you get home.

So, at this point, I'm gonna back down on the excitement until I know for sure. :(

So are people bringing tents, sleeping in cars, RVs? Etc? Gonna bring a chair and sleeping bag, but trying to determine if I should scoop a tent or not.

I was gonna bring some buffalo sausage (unless I find something tastier), tortillas and chips. I'm sure if we don't have a grill, the fire will suffice for sausaging.

I'll be bringing just about all the camping supplies we'll need for cooking; plus groceries, as long as Sky High brings the kitchen sink, we'll be set. :)

tg..... I have tent-age if you want to use one of 'em and you don't want to hastily buy a tent/etc. I also have a couple of thermarest pads. If you ARE thinking of buying a tent I have some suggestions of what to look for (IMO) should you be interested.

I have the sink, bro....all we need now is a maid... LOL. sky doesn't do dishes!

shit...i hate dishes too so now what are we gonna do? lol

heya folks.

I marked up a photo capture from Google Earth that shows the location of camp as well as an alternate campsite. Should anybody want a copy, PM me an email addy and I'll toss it yer way.

Does anyone have a good coffee pot or French press coffee pot (preferred!) they can bring along? Either way, the stove in the camper is handy in the AM and I'm an early riser... so I'll buy a buncha beans and set up a "Barista" for the AM Wake and Bake sessions. I have a couple of small FP's that we can sure make work but if anyone has something larger that would sure be sweet. Bring a good mug if ya wanna join in!!

I have a regular coffee maker and my friend is bringing her espresso maker! :)

Looks like I'm going to miss the gathering. Mama hasn't been feeling good for several days and yesterday while I was at work she blacked out in the bathroom and was unconcious for about 2 hours. She said before passing out she had a severe headache and her arms were hurting. She refused to go to the hospital when I got home. I'm calling the doc this morning to try and get her an appt ASAP.
If anything changes I'll let y'all know.

OMG Dude, that is nothing to play with!!!!! You need to implement your husbandly authority right now and get your woman to the hospital!!!! They're gonna wanna look at her brain. Blacking out with pain like that is nothing to sneeze at. If she has had a stroke, the sooner they can get to it, the better. And whatever she experienced sounds like it's something in the brain and that needs looking at!

Please keep us posted ... we'll burn many for the two of you.

Our prayers and positive thoughts go out to you! Hope she's back on her feet soon.

hey all.

Wow. What a difference a day makes. Sunny and warm out there today. Don't forget yer sunscreen 'cus the cool temps will fool ya even though we're only a month away from the solstice.

Looks like some changes on my end also. My wife has stepped in to help pull the Memorial service together for Saturday, so it appears that I will be flying solo this weekend. Because of the distance between the 2 events, there's just no way to swing it without both events being shorted/rushed. Due to the fact that she is staying home I'm also leaving my teenager... and the way it looks now.....3 of my 4 dogs at home.

I'm still planning on rolling into camp tomorrow AM. On my way in I plan to mark the turnoffs (starting at the intersection of CO 24 & 82) with a small cluster of yellow plastic streamers >at<....or as near to each turnoff as I possibly can. IF Camp #1 is occupied there won't be a yellow flag at the turnoff but there will be one farther up the road/hill showing you the way to Camp #2.

About the only friendly reminder I thought of this AM was to not forget yer PILLOW. It'd be a shame to have that great buzz ruined having to lay yer head on rock..... ;-)

off to pack!

I believe all of the participants have been mailed directions, a map, or both. If I missed you or you didn't make the request, drop me a PM before 9AM tomorrow and I'll email them to you before I leave.

I plug an old Zune into my stereo/subbie system via RCA cables...so if you have an ipod that you have an adapter that plugs into the device then into a stereo/RCA plug jacks we may be able to make it work if you wanna bring it along.
