I had Cyanobacteria on my roots. I had a bad case of root rot. I used a tea instead of hydroguard because hydroguard wasn’t working for me. When I say bad, I mean bad bad bad. I used pool shock, h202, chlorine etc. nothing worked.

I started using this tea, it consists of Mycogrow, Worm Castings, molasses, and some air stones thrown together in a bucket. You put that in your Rez (AFTER YOUVE CLEANED IT) and don’t touch the roots bam. It saved my crop and man did the bennies do their job. Rez temps hit 78, I left it uncovered and the water looked a tad murky but the sides of the wall were clean as a whistle.

What the tea does is fight off the algae and the roots know this and end up feeding the beneficial microbes you just inoculated in the tea. I can teach you but I have to give credit to my man Heisenberg for this tea 🤪
The only way you get cynobacteria is if you have light leaks... its not the same as root rot which is most often caused by pythium.

The mycogrow is what fixed it not all that other stuff... all the other stuff does is feed the bacteria to increase the populations.

The sides of the walls being clean as a whistle is not a good sign

So the bacteria in it produces the Enzymes? What else would have to be used with this?
Thise are synthetic enzymes.... different bacteria play different roles. But yes enzymes produced by bacteria break down nutrients and generally most bacteria will feed off the waste produced if that makes sense.

Well, I followed another thread. Traditional hydroguard and other sterile techniques weren’t working. The symptoms described on the roots for me were the same as Cyanobacteria. It was coating my roots and not allowing them to get any oxygen and then Pythium got a hold and lined my Rez with orange slime. Regardless of what it was the tea was brewed outside the Rez. That’s why I said “I can teach you.” If someone throws all that in the rez it’s an invitation for more issues. But brewing it outside the Rez allows you to multiply the beneficial microbes by feeding them the unsulphured molasses in a separate bucket. Thus the molasses are gone after two days (brew time) and all you have is bennies going to work for you. Yeah mycogrow did it all but it helped something that I had ongoing for about two months and half of my crop went to crap before finding this gem. I stand behind it. I always use it now and haven’t had an issue since.

edit: when I said “clean as a whistle” I meant no Pythium was clinging to the walls.

I can say you are NOT lying and I believe that it cured your root rot but the explanation is all kinda wrong on how it works. The biggest factor in curing root rot is keeping the roots free from "slime" which is actually micro organizms. This is why enzymes and bacteria help. Certain species are known to kill certain pathogens.

You really don't need to brew but it is certainly a method that works.

Honestly I spent about ten days reading through peoples experiences with this tea before diving in. The best explanation as to why it was brewed outside was because whatever was in the Rez would get a hold faster then the bennies could. So sterilizing the Rez and having it brewed gives the tea a head start because the microbes are multiplied. It doesn’t give, and I quote, “the slime a chance to get a hold of your roots.” I believe this guy who was the OP because of where he lives. It’s a swampy area and he always had root issues no matter what.

Regardless I hope this brings anyone success!

This is exactly what all these products do... reproduce the bennies and package em... the teas were used before all these products... like capulators and stuff who have now gone on to package and sell them. Like I said yes you can brew it yourself but not much of a need when they are already done and separated for you. Eg. Capulators threads before he started selling OG Biowar. I can say they absolutely work but you can also just buy it for ease, especially with new growers.

I agree you need to clean the res and suggest daily cleaning of the roots on top of it.

I wonder if you like many other have purchased expired hydrogaurd... this is something thats really been an issue over the last few years. Especially on amazom.

Ok. The guy at the store said my discharge going into the top of my res is kinda dumb and should be going Into the bottom and would possible help my water levels in the bucket?

He also didn’t know about bascillus bacteria. Said he ordered great white once though for someone lol.

I need to see pics of the system... but he sounds clueless... the return line should be above the water.

Also the recipe you are quoting is capulators... heisen used to be a member here. Personally I liked the dude alot but some found him abrasive. Imo great grower.

See the original post here from 2012.

also. I’d like to take you up on that southern ag. Seems the easiest route and if I’m gonna be throwing anyone a few bucks, I would MUCHHHHHH rather it be someone from here than a hydro store/giant corporation. Also seems like about a shot glass would last me forever if it’s 1ml per 20 gal.

I’ll send you a PM.

You’re a rad dude. A lot of knowledge and I’m always up for learning. Kudos!

The buckets without air stones had a ton of sediment. Oddly it still reads 680ppm

I have 6 air stones now.

one 6” stone per bucket
Two 12” stones in the res.

water level still not figured out

Yeah thats absolutely right but you need a bigger pump. Gonna say around 30 gal total so about a 300gph pump would be good.

How’s this for a pump?

Someone showed me this... the same pump on amazon.ca is like $200.

from amazon.com, even after shipping and exchange rate it’s still significantly cheaper. Be careful for you Canadian amazon shoppers.

Bit overkill unless flow can be adjusted.
