nice job there feildofdreams P.S. so what did you do to "get them back on track"

Added a little Domolite lime and raised the feeding schedule to every other day, but I think it was the lime that actually balanced everything out. Thats all I did for her. I am glad I transplanted those girls the day you told me too Alfonso.

Some updates.

I finally got the ph and multi testers for the water and WOW! Maybe you all can help me with the break down on the ppm's.

Nitrates - 20 to 30 before I let the water sit,.. 0 after 3 days??
Nitrites - 0 to .5
Hardness is 300 or higher
Chlorine - 0? Interesting
Alkaline - 300
ph - high 7's maybe 8?

Note:Tested the tap vs tap water after sitting for three dyas and the only thing that changed is the Nitrate's going from 20's 30's to 0??

Have to wait until morning to test the return water from the plant. Will post those results in a few hours.
Peace.

I forgot to mention all I have to use is a fish tank combo strip at the moment and a regular PH drop tester. Anyway this is what I got from the return water.
Nitrates - 40
Nitrites - off the chart 10.0 higher
Hardness about 150
Chlorine - 0
Alkaline - 120
ph - 6.5 - 7.0 :whew
I did a little homework on Nitrates and Nitrites, also how peat can lower the PH, but have no clue what it means as a combo? Not in a panic or worried in the least as they are doing very well but very curious as to what the ppm's are telling me about the plants health or future health?

Feildofdreams what kind of meter do you have? I have a Truncheon Meter Measure EC and PPM that I use in my aro tub. In soil I have no idea how you would measure that. maybe in the runoff I am guessing. I have never measured any thing in the soil I have used a soil test kit at one time just to check what was in the soil. I PH the water before I add it to the soil. As for leaving the water sitting for a while it is to get the Chlorine out of it but you say there is zero when you first tested it so not sure what is going on there. I use well water in my soil grow and that water has a PH of about 8 out of the well and about 400PPM of what not sure did get a print out of my water quality from water authority and it lists what is in the water but over my head on what I was looking for so in the aro just went with distilled water that has zero PPM in it.

Using test strips for now,. Any suggestions on where to buy a decent priced meter? Can't seem to find one in town.
Surprised at the chlorine level as well? The nitrate is the only thing that changed after sitting but in my reading it tells me that toxic levels can stunt growth. The plant becomes unable to process protiens and is caused from a lack of c02? I use plenty of c02 but This is exactly what happens to my plants if I use the straight tap water without sitting time?
To get away from all this crazy water stuff, I was going to ask, what would be a good water to use?

how do you measure the nitrate level in the soil? I think the nitrate level is mesured in PPM I am using distilled water for aro in soil well water is what I use look at Ebay for a PH meter or AHL in albuquerque has them. but don't get the cheapest one remember you get what you pay for just saying

At all seasons they have ppm meters for like $18 and ph meters for $30 not positive on what kind of meters you were looking for

Agreed, I use nothing but fluke or like quality meters in my line of work and should probably treat my plants with the same respect.. Like you say "you get what you pay for."
Thanks bro, and thanks for the tip on the water.

Have another question Alfonso or whomever can answere. Can my big plant use 128oz's of nutes and water in a day? It ,seems, to be using the 64oz I dump in the morning by 2 in the afternoon. Was wondering if I need to start thinking about feeding/water twice a day?
If hydro lets you relax a little more? I'm all for it. lol

In my experience Hydro is quite simple, at least my set-up is. It's all about what works best and easiest for you and your situation. Alfonso is stopping by my place later today; he'll vouch for me!

Man, can't wait to get my flowering shed finished, then I can give it a try. I really don't mind watering by hand but would be nice to come in too check levels instead of mixng nutes every morning.. Right now I am in a closet with minimal space and ventilation. Experimenting with a few plants these past couple of months ended up being the smart thing to do before I go balls out with the full 4 and seedlings. Tricky shit this indoor growing. lol

feildofdreams what size of pots are you using I think a gallon a day is a little much. I hand water my plants in soil and using 3 gallon pots I water them eyery 3 days until there is runoff from them it is about a gallon per plant. I would wait till they dry out some before you water again To check how dry the pots are you can pick up the pot after you water them and see how heavy they feel and again in about 2-3 days and see how light they are. Or you can purchase a moisture meter and go by that. don't think you have to water them twice a day too much water in soil. I also think you don't need to feed nutes every day I feed them every other watering but if the tips are not burned I guess you are doing good . To me your plants are looking great hydro is less watering but it is also got a learning curve to it as you are controlling what the plant is getting at any given time so things happen real fast and you have to be on top of what is happening with them. P.S. your new grow area is looking good But will also cost a lot more to keep the environment to what you need.

Actually 8x6. The veg room too be attached will be 4x8. Not alot of recourses at the moment, but getting it done a little at a time.

Hey there, plants is lookin nice. Progress is Progress, you will get there. I rocked the ghetto grows for yrs.

I am using a 5 gallon bucket for the big girl and a 3 gallon for the smaller one. Both have at least 3 inches of round gravel in the bottoms and a heavy peat/potting mix on top. The big one drains very well leaving the top inch dry by the end of the day.
Still working on the inside and have yet to add vent's too either sides. Had the electrical installed this week, Placing a vent in the ceiling and adding duct work for the hps lights. I did hvac so no problems keeping it cool, warm, fresh air supply and c02.
