Lead,

Heard lots about you. Thanks for chipping in.

He was the guy that "helped" me with my soil last year. Then quit half way through, told some lies about Backyardfarmer/caterpillar710 and hid under a rock ever since. So ya, you heard of him. Pretty sure he still recommends oyster shells and Logan Labs.

I was at the avocado conference in Lima last Oct 2015, the Univ. of Calif folk were there. Yields on avocado in California are horrible! Especially the organic ones! The idea of running P to equal your K is from Dr Carey Reams. And it works!

I can see using Mycos in a poor country, where they can't afford to put down P. But if you want big yields, using high K, mycos don't work. Here is some root porn from Bulldogs' place.... And yes, he applied mycos, but with his P levels, they are not doing anything....

beat you to it. Ha!

It's those hard habits to break. Last year I spend around 600$ just on myco's. I still sprinkle a little on, but I am weaning off. Cold turkey is too much.

if you dont mind me asking, where are these farms?

The two ranches that I know of were in California. Big organic grape farms that cut their fertilizer use way back and listened to Elaine.... they went bankrupt. The final nail in their coffin was using Azomite, which has 12% Aluminum in it. As I remember, Elaine loved the stuff.... spent four days in a conference with her. The first two days, I thought this is amazing. The last two days seeing real data, proved to me she was clueless. Less than a year later, heard those farms production dramatically fell as well as their quality. If you want a big harvest, you have to put in enough inputs. Otherwise what you are really doing is called MINING....

yup and you will all be struggling time for regulation. I prefer my mined P to be in the medical machines that might save my life, and not wasted abundantly for a short term profit of a farmer and his family

is it out of print because its knowledge has been passed by newer data or continually referenced in all texts?
I still dont speak plant but I am prepared to change my habits, to think about a wider context and try to understand this before I move. Hence why I am so interested in your methods Slow & Home

Since you use lots of things I think might be bad for many forms of biology, you can enlighten me with a reality. it is this that matters. What is the total spore count of say Glomus fasciculatus in your soil profile? Do you have a soil fauna test result you might share to show there is no determiment to say glomus, or perhaps that your system has some wider community making up for any myco shortfall for example. You clearly have Actinobac in the system from your scent report, but what else lives there?

Nope, haven't run that kind of test yet, not due to lack of interest, the problem is that those type tests are only available in the US and Europe and those labs don't have soil import permits....

I remember all those genius folk all said that we would run out of oil too.... I use a lot of bone meal, great P source. I do use triple super phosphate during the planting of my trees. Organic certifiers disqualify me the first three years, which is fine with me! Just when I begin to produce! (I am a lime and avocado grower).

ah OK, may be something to investigate more widely tho. I get it I am from a poor nation that has a limited test potential and I am one man too buddy. The CO2 test is pretty easy to anyone using any composting methods. Solvita are good people despite the government funding LOL

we are running out of oil mate, where have you been while prices are going up and increasingly aggressive forms of mining are everywhere?

Wow. Without a profit for the family farm, you will be forced to eat food that is not nutrient dense produced by factory farms who will just blow up your food with N.

We are discussing a short term crop that many make their living off of. Don't mean to offend anyone, but the family farmer is the backbone of any society. You are what you eat. I pride myself on producing the most nutrient dense fruits and veggies possible. Pretty sure that 400 lbs of P to the acre is not going to destroy the planet nor deplete the unbelievable sources available all over the planet.

If you want to get mad, talk to the sugar cane guys that produce poison, or the GMO soy and corn growers who kill off their biology every year with glyphosate and use P sources that are reactive and whose availability can me measure in days....

I feel ya bro, i am just working on systems that might involve this future. I am a whole puzzle type. i tend not to be located in an elemental frame, I use biology, elements and cycles, whatever I can, i am a whore man and i want as much food as anyone else too

Not sure where on the planet you are, but oil prices have fallen greatly as more sources have been found and efficiencies and alternatives have been installed. Hydrogen and alternative energies are right around the corner!

Your cup half empty or half full?
