I would never trust a hydro brew. Microbe Man, the website I directed you to has video's showing his tea's working. He has been on the forefront of the AACT movement. Trust Microbeman, not the hydro guy selling his brew for BIG BUCKS!!!

No for sure i totally agree with you that's why I went with my own brew lol. Dude was totally trying to scare me out of buying the stuff to make my own so they could benefit from selling to me.

when applying DE you can use a puffer but you can also mix it with water in a spray bottle and spray your plants down as well as any bugs....when the water drys the de becomes active as it turns back into a powder.....fire ants are fine as long as they are not harvesting aphids and pill bug or rollie pollie bugs don't eat live plant material they eat decaying matter...just part of the compost cycle

How would I know if there harvesting? I'm gonna go ahead and spray them down just to have a piece of mind

look under you leaves...if they are harvesting then you will find Aphids on the leaves which look like little black or green gooey balls that you can barely see...and there will be ants guarding them....if you don't see any of that I would just leave them alone as they are beneficial to your garden as a whole

Ants "farm" aphids because they feed off aphid honeydew left behind by the aphids. So the ants literally place the aphids on your plants so they can feed on their honeydew. In return, the aphids have their own body guards from predators and can hitch a ride to the next plant easily. Gotta love nature.

Ive had sow bugs destroy an entire bed of flowers in 2 days, so I would have to disagree that they don't eat live plant material....just IME.

So I'm gonna check for aphids If I do have them how do I get rid of them?

You can use neem oil or other insecticidal soap (careful, this has a tendency to burn the leaves in full sun, even residual amount will fry leaves) to prevent this, I spray after then sun passed, then wait for them to dry. Then I spray with water only to wash off residual neem.

You could also introduce benificals, or predatory bugs.

The cheapest meathod would be to just spray water at medium flow pressure and just spray those suckers off.

I believe you can also use dish soap like dawn (no bleach!) a few drops to a gallon of water. aphids breathe through their "skin" , soap smothers them and renders them unable to breathe.

dawn works well and I as well spray as soon as the sun is setting....I leave the spray and dont wash off however I only spray the underneath....
@derkaderk ....I have never seen pill bugs destroy live plant material as I have millions all over my garden and none of my plants are touched....but I do not disbelieve you....I just have never seen it....I do however have lots of organic material as mulch and that is what they seem to like.....in any case....spraying all your plants down with EWC tea will also ward off most pests

It was a few years ago....I just planted 5 flats of petunias, Ice plant, and snapdragon. Ate it all, minus the Ice plant.

You are probably right though...the area was previously rather barren except for some natural leaf mulch. I cleared out all the mulch to prep the area, and millions of those suckers were everywhere. I could see them going after the fresh plants since in would have taken away a good portion of their food source.
I guess that is food for thought for next time....don't take away all the food!

yeah they really like leaf litter and in my flower beds I weed the beds by hand once a week and just lay the weeds down where I pull them....the earthworms, pill bugs, pincher bugs, slugs and dady long legs take care of them in no time and never touch my plants

So I'm gonna be building some cages for my plants any how any quick, easy, and efficient cage builds? I was thinking about get a post for each corner of my boxes and then making a box style cage about a foot from the top of my boxes.

i bought metal fencing from home depot, they had a nice selection, it came pre-made all i had to do was shape it, and it was cheap.....win,win,win imo....All your GDP's look absolutely beautiful :D

Nice Thread AW, I am a cheap bastard so
I use farm fencing haha and T-post I normally
Wait till the plant is just under the size of the
Pot then either posts in pot or pound next to it,
The wire the rounded fencing to the post.

Oh. I also use Ducttape on the spade and
On the bottom of post if going in pot to help
Keep from ripping up the pot

Thanks slingem!!!! Ok and yea that's why I'm wanting to cage then now there just starting to grow outside the box and I can see branches starting to get heavier so it's time to cage em up. My dumb ass was switching the 4ft bamboo sticks with 6ft and didn't realize I was snagged on a branch and broke it . O well it's still early enough were the plant will fill back in but shit that had the potential to be a nice ounce branch or more. What do you guys reccomend I should do to the broke branch spot in my stem? Tape it up, paint it, or just leave it?

Do you spray neem or Spinosaid? Just hit it
With that if you use, should be fine
