Yea I haven't looked at their chart in a long time. It probably does say some crazy like that. Everything I've every read about bottled nutes said start with 1/4-1/2 strength. It's never let me down. Don't listen to what the company says. Listen to what experienced growers tell you.

And there you have it boys.... The single best advice your gonna get! The nute company's need you buying more nutes. I would say it is better to slightly underfeed, than overfeed, until you know what kind of feeder it is. Hey Dirty,,, we all just want to succeed here, just like you. You have some very smart, educated mj growers commenting on your thread. Be friendly, and uplifting, it goes along way... And your plants like good vibes too! I want to see you grow monsters! And I want to see you pull this plant back to looking good. Growing plants that cause few problems don't teach you the finer things, but reviving sick plants does. You have an opportunity to learn a great deal from this sick plant, and you will feel really good when she is back on track. I will be following along watching your grow... Good luck!
@Wisher619 thanks for dropping by and commenting on the thread. Dirty,,, Wish doesn't sit around gossiping, so when he does speak, listen well,, his words carry years of experience.....

I found an interesting article on cation exchange capacity of coco. Very informative. Thank you for guidance, I understand the chemistry behind it much better now. If you have any other helpful info I'm happy to learn.
Basically coco naturally buffered with Na and K but not Ca and Mg. Not sure about anion part (say NO3 - which I assume where all the nitrogen comes from). So what does measurement of pH, EC and possibly salt content of the runoff will tell me ? Do I compare it to the feed ? I'm doing slight pH swing (5.7 - 6.1) feed with quarter strength nutes.

those are showing the same signs.....albiet not remotely as bad
notice the tips of the leaves starting to curl downwards
a healthy plant will stick strait up or strait out
usully only drooping at lights out or just after watering
I would suggest easing up a bit on those as well

I saw the same thing. Explain to him, that he wants his plants down at the riverfront, praying to the God Of Abraham :) Dirty my plants were looking scraggly, Wish had them straightened out in 48hrs and I haven't looked back.... See the leaves praying?

yeah I run Canna bags so I have never had an issue but.....once you have reached cation exchange limit....the media should be good to go

"Cation exchange"
when the media lets go of Anions for Cations and vise versa
I can link you to an article that would be able to explain it in further detail
what I was refering to is once the coco has filled it's Ca bank....even with flush....it will still hold onto most of i'ts Ca ...and when you run the nutes through right after...it begins to refill bank
with coco you are not feeding your plant like hydro....as much as you are feeding the coco and the coco releases +/- ions to the roots as needed

just commenting so I can come back to this thread, and read. I see this thread having some great info by the end of the grow!

It's not that media let's go of anions to for cations ... they work in pairs. Salts disassociate in the solution into positively charged ions .. i.e metals and metalloids and negatively charged ions .. i.e. chlorine, fluorine, nitrates and so on. From my understanding coco has anions on its surface and cause it mostly buffered with Na and K, it needs a sort of rebuffed with Ca and Mg. I feel like I need TDS and EC meter.

yeah coco is filled with anions.....but exchanges them with cations holding onto them in exchange for anion....say
you feed it will let go of K for N and Ca....
there is no possible way .....IMO to grow in coco without a ph and ec meter

I disagree .. it doesn't exchange cations for anions. Like I said they work in pairs .. negative and positive. It displaces cations that are in excess like K and Na with Ca and Mg. You can not displace Cl- with Ca+.

I do have pH meter but definetly will get EC meter. Imo it is possible it's just you have to take in account salts that present in tap water if used and concentration of the nutes. And don't get me even strated on ppm ... it's mg/L so technically it's ppm wt/vol. Ppm wt would be wt/wt .. and yes water density is around 1 so even with salts present and different temperature from standard it differs a bit. Did you know that pH depends on the temperature of the solution ? That's why most pH meters are equipped with thermometers. Also those must be calibrated using NIST traceable reference materials otherwise what good is uncalibrated pH meter and EC meter would do .. speaking of , any recommended brands for EC meter ? There'sa bunch on amazon

Also this one. Explains salts in solution and other things.
Thank you @Wisher619 for help, no amount of electrical chemistry .. lol .. can substitute years of growing experience but I try.

that is a good article and it gives great explanation.....like I said earlier I could reference you to articles that would better explain then I
that being said
you should not be checking your runoff
it will make you crazy as you pour in 1.5ec of a ph 5.8 and what comes out is 2.5 ec and a ph of 6.7
consentrate on what goes in not what comes out

Cool bro. Thanks again. I ended up buying a different one but I'm sure it all works the same, it's just a matter of precision.

yeah.....no problem
I have also found over the years
the cheaper you go....the more accurate and long lasting they are....by cheap I mean 80-100 bucks
the 300-500 range is cool.....just not worth the extra cash

IMO

80-100 bucks ? Nononono my friend .. this is Steve, Best Buy customer service. I got one for 15 dorrars.
All it needs is a good calibration, I would recommend changing electrodes at least every year .. just your average life of the electrode. The ones with replaceable ones obviously cost more. I guess we'll see ..

oh.....I see....you meant the one I suggested may be more precise
yeah I have an HM water pro for ppmand a hanna ph meter with detachable probe
works great

cheapest PH meter and the most accurate and stable I have used

Like any nutrient company they use different species of plants, they say most of the time recomended feeding chart this is not a bible to which we need to use its a ball park figure
Always start off low and see how plants react then bump up accordingly .
of course they want you to hammer plants and use up the nutrients so you buy more n more right ..
And pending on strain indica or sativa leaning Indica's demand more N then there southern relatives that demand less .
Find the happy medium for maximum growth

I agree with that
but even AN....who is supposed to be cannabis specific
I havnt found a plant yet that NEEDS....3.0 ec
so whether needing more N or not.....that is just way to high....IMO
you would think manufactures would want you to have a good experience as well
