I can duct the air from the living space. That fluctuates room to room depending on if we’re just using the furnace or have a fire. The air from the warmth of the fire would be too much. What do ppl in colder climates do? Put their heat on 72?

If I have to, yes adjust that thermostat.

I was gonna mention vpd but the OP is a new grower trying to wrap his head around just basic equipment and environment setup. But you are right VPD is dialing it in especially when using leaf temp.

You’re all great in case I forgot to mention it. I can get in the weeds though. I need simple and to make the conditions I have work before I move onto anything else. I will check out the link sent.

Well, we’d die. That’s not a possibility. It would be too warm in the house and cost too much. Oil won’t be cheap. 68°. I’m going to need a heater that can be used in the tent.

I cycle 2 tents through the winter. In a few weeks I will start the plants to fill my second 5 x 5 tent. Plants in the 2 tents will be about 45 days apart. This allows the heat from my lights in veg to heat the room during the dark cycle of the tent that is in flower. I also run a small electric heater connected to a seedling mat thermostat to regulate temp. My plants are in my basement where winter night time temps without any grows are at about 58-60 degrees. Michigan is known for cold winters.

Do as you're doing. It's how most of us started. I've been doing this longer so I have had more time to collect more "stuff." You'll get there ...

A lot changes if I have to move rooms. I need to concentrate on getting at least one setup going. If successful (I’m sure I’ll get there) I would expand into that.

I hear that. If I was you, I would just grow the best stuff I can to convince her then split the upper room into 2 staggered grows

IMO the vpd chart is for lettuce not buds. If I flower 75f @70%rh bad things will happen. If I ignore the vpd chart and flower 75f @ 45rh, fat sticky stinky buds happen.

At 70% RH, your plants would struggle to transpire. VPD is about dialing in the transpiration rate. An old grower like you is going to respond to what you're seeing ... and then tweak your environment to improve transpiration. The science is solid. You're already doing it without checking temperatures ... If you do, don't use the lettuce vpd chart. It's for lettuce.

I will probably be back looking for you because those are going to be my conditions. You just made me able to breathe and know it can be done. You are probably colder more consistently, but we are still in the definite winter zone. I’m in the capital area of NY.

Autos will stunt in a cold tent. If you can’t get the temps up look for a good photo with tolerance to cold.

There are photo strains out there that can tolerate a bit of cold. Just google cold tolerant Cannabis strains. You’ll get good returns on the search.

Even some photo periods will stunt if it gets too cold. He's looking for ideas on how to control his temps so he can avoid that. I have a finished, heated basement. My tents are on the other side of the wall from the finished area in the mechanical room. Because my basement is heated, it's easier to regulate since I have a readily available source of warmer air to pull into my grow area.

All houses are different, and everyone's situation is unique ... as a group, I'm sure we can toss enough ideas his way so that he can control his grow room environment.

One thing I did was install a ventless gas log fireplace in my basement. It's in my family room. I bought it as a Christmas present for my wife. The plants have benefited as much as my wife and I have from it.

I’ll get the intake air from the 1st floor but that can be cooler or hot depending on what we’re doing in the house. The woodstove in my apartment will heat most of the house, as it rises through the upstairs. The problem is parts of my apartment can’t really be used unless your dressed tropically. lol. Knowing this changed where I will likely put an intake vent in the floor to draw from. The hallway where the thermostat is. It doesn’t get too hot with the fire, nor too cool as some rooms are closed.

This is just basement. Nothing finished. It does stay temp steady because it’s a basement but it’s not warm enough. Do they make safe heaters for inside a tent? If I used a couple space heaters around it? Although that doesn’t seem safe or economical. I do have to think about what I’d be saving though. The economics are ok. Safety would worry me. Moms up there.
