Diz where art thou

?Update:)

I am gonna try and incorporate some hempys for the next run. Gonna go with a 5gal coco/perlite/ 2"hydroton rez mix. Anything you would change in your mix.

I am trying to go 2-3 days without watering... any tips of how I should mix it up to achieve this. Are you still watering every 2-3 days or has it gone up to every day?

How are you cleaning the coco and perlite before mixing? I know you gotta wash the perlite but what do you do with the coco? Do you pre-charge it with anything... any calmag issues?

thanks

I would think with his 75% perlite/25% coco you would need to water at minimum once a day if not twice.

I have some 2 and 3 gallon hempy pots going right now with about 65% coco and 35% perlite and I'm watering once a day. Although some times I can make it 2 days without watering.

Hope that helps :)

How deep is your reservoir? I have read even with smaller containers you still need min of 1.5" of rez... most I have seen who are going 2-3 days without watering have the standard 2" rez.

Just a thought if your drains holes are a little low.

right now Im watering every 3days until runoff then I plug in the pumps when Im downthere for a min or two a day just to keep the lines clean. I will post some pics on friday at day 21 of flower. they are huge

i used to do 5gal hempys and I would water every 3rd day. but they were only 4- 6oz plants

I used canna coco so I didnt really wash it too much, the perlite I just run a hose in the bag until water squirts out the bottom, then I water with a 600ppm and 6.0ph until there is a ton of run off

Yo dizzle, I'm in for some pics and an update if ya got some time. I know it's kinda low traffic in here, but I'm still watching.

Good to see you post

So how do you feel about growth rate up against mpb stylee

they grow great, but nothing like the MPB, the MPB plants just turn into beast, every stalk is like a bamboo stick and the leafs gets as big as plates. you dont really get that in the hempys but I do believe that the same yeild can be achieved with extra pre-vegging. Instead of taking cuts 6-7wks out from transplant, take them at 9wks, let them root for 3wks, then veg them for 6wks under a 1000w mh and then maybe 2 weeks in the room and you will have some serious monster plants.

Vegging, if you veg with overhead light until they get about 2ft, then spread the plants out and drop a bulb in vertical and veg until they are 3ft, then transplant and veg for 10day and you should get 1.5-2lb plants all day long. if you are using strains that yeild higher and grow faster than kush, then veg time will go down and yeilds will go up

drain to waste in these hempys are by far the easiest, worry free, simplest method I have found. the mini res in the bottom of the tubs hold 2.5gals of water so when you see run off, the plants have about 3.5gals of water to drink before you have to worry. I have been feeding with a high PPM like 1500, then the next time I feed with water or a low ppm like 200ppm,

Yea their about 1" to 1.5"

I cant get away with not watering for 2 days but its pushing it with the perlite mix's.

My pure coco pots i just kinda treat like soil lol they retain water forever

D you do not feel changing your internal plant chemistry will cause you smaller plants? I would think a more even keel feeding schedule would be better. JK
I veg my girls the same way. Nothing beats having a separate veg room. I carry 3.5' plants into our flower room.

my theory is when I feed them high, they will drink a good amount of that water and leave a decent amount of nutes, so when I add water for the next feeding Im really re-constituting the nutes that are left from the previous feeding. I have been able to maintain a runoff off 900ppm and 5.6-6.2 run off reading. Ive found that even feeding a low PPM like 700 will still get a build up of salts because the plants tend to drink more water than the nutes, and If I go too low they show def

IMO the veg room makes or breaks the MPB, If I had a little more space I would veg 6 plants in a 4x8 under 2k and get them huge so I could flip in a week

I agree with you on that flushing in DWC isnt needed

I found doing pH sap tests constant flushing changes the pH which I believe will slow down the aminos which will slow down the plant metabolizing the sugars.
I flush chow when I switch out my rez. I will run about 5 gal in 2 min of pH water mixed with kelp.I then fill and start feeding them right away topping off at 1250 ppm. Twice around week 5 and 7 on a 70 day strain I will take it up past 1400 for 1 rez cycle which is about 4 days by then.
Your run off is a good number, when I flush mine it is about 150 over what I am feeding them. I am just starting to push them with those numbers.
Also if you are running the same strains I am curious if yours finish quicker in chow then the MPB. JK

I would put 2" large diameter perlite in the bottom, that gives you the most water in your 2" of space than any other medium.

Next I would do 30% perlite 70%coco. But I take a paper towel tube and stick it down the center of the bucket before filling with the coco/perlite. I fill around the tube and then fill the tube with 100% vermiculite. Slowly pull the tube out and now you have a complete hempy bucket with a natural wick built in for the tap root.

Where have you seen 2" dia. perlite? JK

here we are at day 21

damn you get these blackberrykush's big fast in any system you do. I am hoping my first round was strain specific with the pk... probably gonna top out at around 42" tall but they are all very wide. Hope the bubba can solve this for the next round.

Are you planning to clean those girls up at around day 45? I remember you do day 21 clean up but not sure if you do a follow up at day 45. I did the day 21 and they bushed right back up within a week... Looked like I never touch them, just bigger buds. I really think its a must with these big plant.

Always looking good bro, looking forward to further updates.

I gotta say the buds at day 29 are bigger than they ever have been, I havent touched a fan leaf in flower but did 2 major plucks in veg

the plants have cages but they really arent holding braches up, just the plant as a whole, so the braches are nice and spread out so the penetration is great. I buy a ton of yo-yo's to tied them up thou, branches have been falling for a week now

its started me thinking that the cages, while are great for supporting plants, keep your plant from naturally opening up allow a lot of light to get inside. I could see myself using a center support for the plants main stem, then yo-yo'ing all the branches to the ceiling in the future

interesting.. thanks for posting that observation

man the yo yo are the shit, so ease to use, I might go with some pvc like JK does and roll with the yo-yos from here on out

The day 21 pics of the bbk look great brother. I feel you on the yoyo's. yoyo's and the trellis netting, you can do anything:)

Totally right about the plant support and training with the cages. They don't support branches when they grow way past the cage and still need to be tied up. And they do restrict things a bit as branches grow out and get heavy. I've had to cut the squares in the cage to move branches around as they got bigger and heavier.

I like the yo-yos (pain in the ass sometimes) but they could be better if you could adjust the tension. Did you get the locking yo-yos? Those seem like they could solve the problem but will be a pain getting to the ceiling when plants are big.
