My first clone jobMy first clone job 2 Hi Farmers.. Just a novice grower with little experience.. I have a small soil grow in my View attachment 332529View attachment 332530View attachment 332529View attachment 332530 bedroom.. The 5x5 walk in closet that I use for flowering is crammed.. and no room for my Serious ak-47.. So I decided to give it a go and try and do some cloning.... Getting some sound advice from my good friend and fellow THC farmer member here.. So I took 3 cuts from the ak and had a CH-9 Blue Lemon Thai that I just flipped 6 days ago, and took 2 cuts from her.. both plants are from fem seeds.. All were cut, dipped in clonex gel, and placed in riot rooter plugs, All plugs were dipped into Liquidkarma first, mixed at a ratio of 3 tsp. per gal of water.. Placed in a partitioned tray, with a tall vented dome.. and placed under some t-5 flouros, will be misting dome 3x a day, and keeping the plugsView attachment 332529View attachment 332530 moist... The cuts were made on fri. aug 8th..Heres a pic of the cheap small set-up.. I will check in on the patients soon, and post some pics. I'm hoping to get a couple going at least, or this will be a short diary!. and a bald ak-47..lol... Thanks, and any of your 2 cents is always welcome..

looking good Peppy! I've never used any LK ...interesting choice. Clones were my weakness starting out. I found simple to be best. Aerated tap water..dip in clonex..stick in dome. Root temps can make or break you in cold/hot season. I've employed sticking my long "pre-cuts" branches into solo cups for 24 hrs prior to cloning..it helps with limping.
Best of luck!

Thanks for stopping by.. They could use a little viagra.. not as limp as yesterday, they seem to be perking up today.. so thats good news.. The LK dunk was recommended by my clone mentor..lol.. And I also keep just the plug moist with it.. When you say sticking your branches in solo cups before cloning.. explain that a bit more please.. Do you just stick them in water in the solo cups, then clonex dip them, and then put them in plugs and dome them?.. thanks..

Yeppers..I cut as long a cut as I can with the intention of cutting it shorter when I do the actual cloning. They are about 10" when I take them from the plant. I put up to a dozen of these in tap water in solo cups. Then leave them out on the counter for 24 hrs. I come back and pull them out...chop them down to around 5" leaving a good node or two. Then trim the excess leaves by cupping them in my hand and giving them a proverbial bowl cut. Dip them in clonex for a min..then to the pucks in the humidome. easy peasy. I found they acclimate to being detached from the Mom plant..I think they harden to drinkin straight water somehow better..not sure of the botany science here..but a def improvement. Lots better than using a Non-wilting spray..which could be used in an open air situation..not sure about no-wilt and using a dome though.

Also, one key thing I do everytime out of habit..is to make my final stem cuts under water. I just use a pyrex dish full of tap and lay that sucker down in the water and slice. Keeps air embolisms out of the stem.

Good morning. I have helped many friends and family clone. It's very simple if you build the following clone bucket. It will cost you 50 tops and you will have 100% success. The link I'm posting is to a different form but 4-5 years ago i ran into rumples how to's and it literally changed my life! Remember Cuts get sent far and wide and are then successfully rooted under the right conditions and these are the right conditions. http://forum.grasscity.com/do-yourself/444974-lets-build-clone-machine-step-step.html

Thanks for sharing bro , pretty neat set up.. But I would have to hire a carpenter to get the job done.. Not to handy in the tool department, and the only thing I have on the list is probably the scissors, and razor blade!..lol.. Thanks again,

Don, if your plants are only 5 days in put the humidity dome back on. Open the vents, but keep the dome on. You will probably need another 5 days or so with the dome on.
Thanks for stopping by bro.. Yes the dome is still on.. and I'm still misting.. I'll probably start opening the vents in another few days.. Just popping the lid off to mist, about 3x a day.. and keeping plugs moist with some Liquid Karma.. Thanks again, and stop by anytime.. DP

No need to keep taking it off and putting it back on, just leave it on. I only spray in the dome if it is bone dry. Also don't water the plugs if they do not need it. The less you come in contact with the clones the better they will do.

Lookin' great, DP!!! Looks like you're cloning career is getting off on the right foot! Haha...I sure didn't do that well my first time out! You're about halfway home, IMO. Another 5 days or so and they should be showing roots coming thru the sides of your plugs. I like to get mine in dirt (Happy Frog) as soon as I see roots. I also cut the Liquid Karma back to 2 tsp/Gal once they're in their pots. Not to be disagreeable, Smoking Gun, but I've done it both ways many times and I find that mine do best when I mist the inside of the dome and keep the humidity as close to 100% as I can get. Then, I start opening the vents and begin hardening them off. Once I see roots, the dome comes off, because the plant then has the means to transport water, and the high RH is no longer necessary. Again DP...super job (especially for your first time). Haha...don't do like me...when I got it down, I went clone-crazy! Haha...had cuts everywhere! (It was great)!

Best,

Max :wacky:

Yes very addictive .... cool thread liking the detail on the link provided but my tool box is smaller than yours for sure. I would personally buy the cloner as I would of been smoking GSC if I had a bought it a long time ago instead of my 1 clone not making it.... would hate to lose a elite cut .....

best of luck

Completely agree. The less you fudge with them the better they'll be. I usually mist the domes 1-2 times a day and thats it. Leave the dome on for at least 7 days. I usually just vent it and leave it on until everything is rooted. Start looking for roots after 8-10 days.

They look good though bro. They'll root up for sure. Don't oversaturate the plugs! You wanna hit them right before they are fairly dry. Let the roots that are forming stretch out to search for water

BTW ive used cloners, plugs, and rockwool. I only use rockwool now but plugs arent that far behind. Water cloners are great unitl they pump fails or the water overheats. Then theyre no bueno

In my experience...
The best advise I have read on cloning is to bulk up the downer before cutting.
Health and size of the cutting has the greatest impact on success.
Many of the compulsions that pile up in cloning procedures are of no use in my opinion.
I have read of people using a new razor blade for each cut, and also making that cut under water.
The same procedural creep is what drives the plethora of additives and secret sauces for sale.
I come from a science education.
Believing in results without control evidence is to act on faith.
