I am growing in UC and I disagree that ph and epicenter feeding being a negative is "crap". I learned fast to veg them with a top drip or flood table until the root mass is well established before dropping them in the UC. Anytime nutrients or ph adjustment was added to the epicenter it messed things up fast. Once a nice top off res was added and PH kept 5.8 at all times problems started going away. Zone is the key for me. Sterile system. Have not had the brown algae since (crosses fingers). I agree that well established plants can take some of this abuse but why risk it? Your plants looked too small to be taking any of that abuse and still be able to get some momentum going. Just my opinion. Im learning too and I have killed an entire UC run with brown algae and PH drift. I cleaned my system five times with Physan 20 after the brown stuff and am rocking so far. I think you can do this just keep that thing clean, run zone, and get big roots before you drop them in the system. Last piece of advice... grow some plants in soil in your other room just in case LOL... Good luck amigo!
The ph swing your talking about goes beyond everything I thought your supposed to do.. Can you please elaborate for me on why or is that just what works for you? I am just confused because it contradicts what is typically the norm on here. Your grows speak for themselves but I need intel why..Thanks
The norm on here? Im no sure what that is... All I know is I get tons of pm's asking the same question and when I tell every one the same thing I have said since day 1... leave it alone and allow your ph to swing for 24 hrs then see where you are at..I then usally get a pm telling me that why is this all I know is what my meter tells me when I mix my nutes my ph rite off the bat will read as low as 3.9 to 4.2 after a few hrs its at 5.4 and the plants never skip a beat the system takes an hr just to recirculate all the water. Now if I was to add PH up what would my nutes be say I brought them to 5.5 after a few hrs they would be 7.0? I have moms in a few different UC systems that are so big and healthy and the PH is rairly checked I just add the nutes and let them swing.. I start off low and bring them up slowly so I will start at 600 ppm and a ph 0f 5.4 after the swing. Slowly over the week the ph will rise until it gets to around 6.3 to 6.4 by that time I will add a little more nutes bringing total ppm to 700 to 800 this will drop my ph. (AT ANY POINT DOES THE PH DROP THE PPM'S ARE TO HIGH) In veg 600 to 900 is a good ppm for almost every strain..I know alot of guys will blow over this and still add ph up or down and a month later loose a crop and send me the same pm.. All I can say is this is what has worked for me..Hope this helps JACK
P.S. I forgot to mention, my JBJ 1/10 HP chiller has been able to cool my UC System 6 down to 69 in room temps upward of 84 deg, but first I calibrated the chiller temp against my Hanna meter. Just a thought in case your chiller temps might be off...
