Is chopping the buds required before putting in ice-water?

Nope... I mean. I would break down a cola nug and not but it in as 1 large bud... but beyond that...no

Again consider dry ice... no water needed...no dry time needed... no risk of mold or algae

Wait... he really re-sifts the sift.... nope... I spend maybe 1 or
2 minute agitating plant material and do a good shake cutting table into 3rds... 1st shake best stuff... keep shaking until different color and go to pile 2 and keep shaking... then onto pile 3... I will then set in freezer for the night to draw out any possible co2??? I heard about that last part recently don't know how true that could be but figure it can't HURT...

Im a fan of dry ice hash.... it's same as bubble has except use dry ice instead of ice water... salt and pepper style shaking required

the biggest difference is that with water extraction you are washing gunk, pollutants and shit out of the trichomes, the end product if done well is of much better quality than dry ice hash, i do dry ice extraction just because its fast and i like smoking it fresh, tastes great, but bubble hash is a whole another thing.

I just had a grow and unfortunately, I vegged too long and a lot of buds are not ideal due to light stress from being too close to the lights (unable to raise them further). I also rarely smoke and want to make hash. Since most hash making tutorials use trim or tiny buds, I’m wondering a few things about using buds For hash. I have bubble bags ready to go.

1. Would you recommend using fresh frozen buds or dried buds for the hash? Which will likely produce the higher quality product? How about yield?

2. How should I break up the buds for more surface area And more yield? Do I use scissors and cut up buds cleanly into tiny pieces?(I know that will take quite a while?) Do I grind buds?(Ive heard it will make hash lower quality.)

3. Any other tips to have a decent bubble hash run?

Thanks!

For quality of terpenes fresh frozen all the way my friend, fresh frozen in a frost free freezer, the colder the better.
just freeze the nugs splitted from stems, and no fan leaves, split them in an inch or so sized nugs before freezing, let them freezing for 3 days at least, from freezer directly to extraction bags ready to process.

In the not so old days Nikka T shared some good info around, he is one of the OGs in bubble bag extraction,
now he run paid courses and consulting on it :-)

the "true" 90 microns is what's catch on the 73u screen.
those both screens normally are the best grade bubble hash.
depends on cultivar.

How to make hash with CO2 or dry ice

In this post we show you how to use Co2 or dry ice to make high grade hash extractions, quickly and effectively. You just need 40 seconds to collect a large amount of trichomes with this technique, one of the best-yielding solventless extraction methods.

Yeah, the only reason I'm doing this is that I have a plant that good for little else, I'm fine with bud, light user & only vape, 2 packs of the more tight bud friendly sisters of the plant in question knocked me flat yesterday so if this one was the same I wouldn't bother, I just don't want it to go to waste as its a pretty nice plant IMO, cinch to cure as pretty much all the fans have dropped naturally but the buds are like tight foxtail clusters, too micro leafy for good vape or smoke for that matter.
