Take a look at this oil painting I’ve been working on for forever and you can decide if I’m comfortable with tedious ;)
Well, you have that covered in spades my friend. Beautiful work btw. Love mandalas.

That’s a really nice set up and I definitely ain’t just saying it made me drool you got so much space
well time to burn one and watch tv 👍😋
Oh it wonderful, my wife is a damned saint hahaha. See you around the bend @Gmix 👊🏻

Would it be I’ll-advised for any great reason to pull the plants out during the dark period today to redo some exhaust work in the tent for an hour?

Why not do it when the lights are on? Less chance of a hiccup…..

Scheduling, but I guess I can wait. Eager to do stuff!
Ah I see, well, shit. Just fyi it no big deal to pull them out of there for a bit when lights are on though lack of light intensity for a little bit won’t have any bearing on your ladies. If you are going to do it at lights out, have them put when they shutoff and act fast.

I decided to be patient ;) So need to decide on the pots tonight. The main thing holding me back from not going straight to 7 gallons is the fact that it takes time to wake up and stabilize the microbes. So if I do go to 2 gallons first, I will stunt the soil building process of the 7 gallon pots. Back and forth, back and forth with it.

I decided to just go all the way into the 7 gallons. I was pretty surprised at how little root development there was in the (slight less than) gallon pots. Should have taken a picture. Not like alarming or anything, but not circling by any means. I think maybe it’s preferable to see some circling before transplanting?

Thanks again for everyone’s support today!

Didn’t add any epsom into the mix. I figure that might straighten itself out with the fresh soil, but something I will be keeping a close eye one. I doubled my calmag addition.

I think my new topic of inquiry is figuring out when to flip. I’m going to swap the metal halide for the HPS for a day soon and record leaf temperatures at varying temps/humidities and light distances to the canopy. I’m pretty sure I’ll be safe at 16” but I want to be somewhat scientific about it within my climate. Right now the leaf temps under the tippy top of the canopy max out at 1 degree above ambient temps. Pretty happy with that. I expect that will rise with the addition of humidity from the new big pots. More humidity means higher leaf temps usually.

So the strain is Grimm Truffles. It’s a cross between white truffles and cindarella 99. Cindy supposedly stretches 3-5x. Truffles probably a lot less. I can’t seem to figure out a ballpark estimate of how topping effects stretch. The breeder (Brother’s Grimm) claimed on the phone that I can expect a 2x stretch. I don’t know if I believe that and either way I will be wise to account for a 2.5x stretch. Does that sound reasonable? If I need to assume 3x, so be it. I just don’t know but I’m certainly going to aim for my target of 42” tall plants, from the soil surface, or roughly 52” from the floor. Any advice? These plants are pretty damn compact. It seems like a lot of growth so far for what amounts to about 7” tall plants currently. I’m not going to scrog them. I’ll probably just do some light LST and support the tops with yo-yo clips if and when that becomes necessary. Gonna lollipop the lower 1/3 or so, maybe a teeny touch more than 1/3. I topped above the 3rd node and have a nice even canopy developing.

So for a 2.5x stretch factor, I’m looking at flipping at 17” tall. 21” for a 2x stretch, or 14” if you guys think she may go for a triple stretch. Any words of wisdom for me?

I'll never understand pot growers.

The leaf margin is folded down (phos-bor deficiency) yet you wait until it dies then make it worse.

Why do pot growers wait until their plant is dead to notice their unhealthy plant? And why does everyone make their problem worse with calmag? Who's to blame for how backwards and self destructive the pot growing community is?
You'll enjoy this thread champ!! 🤣

Probably because it's impossible. We're a diverse group of individuals who have varied experience, skills, purposes and goals.
You'll never fully understand someone else because we all are already struggling to understand ourselves lol. Sometimes we get influenced by alien thoughts, (other people's idea hatching in your head) and we physically carry out actions we don't recognize to be our own and say things like "dang that's not me" even now, earlier today... I sit here tryna figure myself out 🤣. And came to my conclusion that we are ALL a little crazy and far from normal but the people who completely batshit crazy and the most abnormal are the ones saying they arent.

That is a well founded homie. Salt can pound sand? 😝
I would still sample it though. Get a run down of what it’s like. May be worth it. For your cannabis aspirations anyways.

I bet! I’m appreciating the increase in humidity from the big pots. But what height to flip at to keep them at 42” tall at harvest from the soil line? So unsure of that..

I will for sure. About to be sending off soil samples from my farm so now is the time to do it. I can get the water samples at the same time.

I depends on what you are growing strain wise, what are your dimensions of your tent and lamp height? Yo said yo yo style earlier? I wouldn’t top anymore then……also light height?

Grimm truffles which is a cross between Cinderella 99 and White Truffles. Breeder claims that they will do a 2x stretch. Cinderella supposedly does a 3-5x stretch on its own. White truffles I’m sure much less. But one thing I don’t know how to factor in is how much less plant stretch by virtue of being topped. Let’s say the strain comes in at 3x stretch if it were unstopped, which is probably a fairly safe guess between the two strains, is it still 3x with 6 tops or will it be closer to 2 or 2.5x?

It’s really tough to call, it really depends on the stability of the strain. As well as honesty from the bank itself. It really is tough to call because in my experience these banks, will make descriptions of pheno, and you end up with something completely different. Your logic isn’t wrong though. It’s just really hard to tell unless you have ran it before. Imo, you need to do what you think will maximize the plants tops without blocking too much mid growth. But since you plan on yo yo style, you will have the ability to move colas around as needed. But I would air on the side of flipping sooner than later, I think you would be better off guessing early than late. With a proposed 3 times stretch, play it safe. My 2 cents.

Okay, that sounds like really good advice. I’m planning to allow for 16” of height between the 600hps and the canopy. With my setup, and accounting for a potential 3x, that means I should flip when they are 13.5” tall. That’s quite a bit less than I was hoping for but I’d rather regret flipping early than flipping late.

That will probably happen within a week I bet!

So okay, that sounds like a solid plan. There is maybe one other option which is to tie down the tops to tease out some more shoots to bring up. I could probably gain another week of veg and keep the height roughly the same?
