Welthink ballasts are cheap crap,if your going to go to all the trouble to piece something together at least use quality components.The philips ballasts are designed to run the philips bulbs and are a much better and higher quality component.There is a guy who puts together a kit with bulb,ballast and lamp socket, all philips for around 200,ill see if i can find it and ill post it up.

Mine have all been fine, and they also were designed to run the Philips bulb. So I shouldn't piece together my own premium components, but you know a guy who will do it for me? I'll change my mind with evidence but don't' see any yet.

Are you talking about that guy who sells the mogul lamp kits? Advanced Tech Lighting? He's extremely unreliable, takes forever to ship, and wouldn't answer my emails. Buyer beware.

I totally agree with the takes forever to ship comment,ive heard he has health problems and is a 1 man show BUT ive never heard of anyone who got ripped off,im sure you could also source the philips parts yourself if you tried hard enough
Welthinks are a cheap china import,you can buy pallets of them on alibaba without the welthink logo,hardly a premium component.Im not knocking you bro,i commend you for building your own shit!my point is just if your going to go to the trouble why not use the best parts?your time is worth more than that.
Dont you think sunsystems and other big 315 makers would use welthinks at a substantial savings over philips if they thought it was even a close replacement?hell yeah they would,a dollars a dollar to them.

The dude running the welthink factory sells more ballasts for that bulb than Phillips does, his production is up so much that he'll extend a warranty on his ballasts, which makes it 150% worth it to buy those over Phillips. I've been using 315s with both ballasts and I see NO difference other than reliability, and if they both have the same warranty but ones half the price then its a no brainer. I've had two phillips ballasts go and three welthinks go personally, the welthinks I got replaced no question (distributor was grobal) and the sunlight supply model they won't even look at.

With the sunlight supply ballast its an econowing, grobal I have their whole system. I like the grobal hood a lot.

There are at least 10 companies in the us ordering welthinks ballasts and selling a 315 package, unless you have 15-25k sitting around you're not going to be ordering them from China. As it is they can't keep up with demand, pretty sure the warehouse is backordered right now anyways. The demand for these lights is real, they are actually really hard to find in boulder/denver unless you go with sunsystem or find one of the light companies that sucks at customer service and doesn't know how to sell their lights

is it pretty accurate that it's a 3x3 footprint cause I'll be throwing it in a 2x4.
Also the difference on the systems is about $40 so that being said notice anything with either that would sway you to choosing one over the other?

Nope,not really. I will say if you cant get the prices discounted buy the sunlight unit, a welthink setup shouldn't cost more than $350 especially if it doesn't come warrantied.

The footprint is a definite 3x3, you'll notice falloff after 3ft. In a 2x4 tent there would probably be enough light bouncing around though, you'll be impressed with how bright these things are.

Any advice on bulbs? Do you prefer the Agro?

I thought these things were designed to hang vertically? The reflectors I have been seeing on here are horizontal. I could just use any old horiz reflector if thats the case. I was thinking of getting a parabolic vert reflector for these. Less than $50 for one. A lot cheaper than what they are selling these reflectors for online and hanging the way they were designed. Thoughts??

The sunsytem runs vert. Your money isn't the reflector but as long as you get a socket adapter you can use whatever as you please. Some are using block busters.

Sorry I misspoke above and Hortistar is the reflector I meant, just bad with names. If you want a more rectangular footprint, those will help, but keep in mind the CMH lamps are more of a single point of light so they don't light up the reflectors the same as a long HPS rod. That's why I think the vertical style with square footprint are more efficient, the Grobal looks to work similar since it puts the little sphere of gas in the right place (and the price is fair).

I know you guys like 3x3 for veg but I'm seeing they need to be closer for flowering, like 2x2. The ones in my tent are in Irradiator hoods and vented with a small fan, since it's a sealed test with CO2 and optimum VPD. I'm sure there must be some loss from the glass, especially any UV, but I'm not seeing a big difference in the flowers yet (now in wk7)

could not edit my other post but anyways I'm loving this light. Wish I could get another 315w or 630w unit and replace my 600 hps for flowering.

Any real life comparison data on the reflector yet? $25 to add air cooling makes it a nice option for tents.

Its my understanding the Hydrofarm hood is a Chinese import with at best 80% reflective material. My Sun System units have 95% and 98% inserts. I am sure Sun System is going to be doing light test with the hydrofarm unit vs theirs asap. I will post those findings.

For $328 seems like a good deal.
