A day late but here is the most current update.

Things are going ok, having the heat on in my house has made a huge difference in the plants. They are taking up water at a much better rate, though now it is time to get my humidifier running. The Black Lime (Day 31) in flower is coming along well, starting to get nice and frosty and just starting to bulk up. The smell is starting to develop nicely as well. I am seeing some deficiencies in my Crown Royale (Day 17) at the moment and trying to pull her through that as she is starting to really throw pistils now. I am not really sure exactly why my plants seem to be struggling, but I think its because the cooler temps through the younger parts of their lives didn't allow me to get enough nutrients into the soil for them to take up through the flowering process. It may also be a bit root bound, I forgot how long the Crown Royale and Pineapple Chunk (Day 8) have been in their pots.

My plants in veg are doing quite well, all the Black Lime clones are really starting to take off and show how fast a grower she really is. The Praying Mantis plants are also coming along nicely and the differences of the two phenotypes are becoming evident; one (PM 3#) is very branchy and is going to grow into a nice bush while the other (PM #1) is a very upright narrow plant.

Anyway onto the pics.

Black Lime clones, the one on the left is in coco and will eventually be flowered out. The one on the right is in soil and will become my mother plant. You can see easily how much quicker the coco plant is growing than the soil plant, but it has left wider nodal spacing in the coco plant, so pros and cons to the increased growth rate of coco.

I always have some trouble at the change of seasons getting my room temps straight.

Nice work all round bud. Plants and cuttings look great. Super color. Love seeing all the stages on display.

Thanks. I am really happy with the plants in veg at the moment. As I said everything seems to be back on track once I got my temps sorted out. I wish I coul dactually blame the weather but it was me being stubborn and not wanting to turn on the heat in my home.

That is a beautiful plant there. How did you find the Gunslinger, I love how it grows, how hardy it is, how easy it is to clone and the yields but I found the flavor and aroma lacking. Did you have the same experience. I am going to keep her around for a while as I like her for potential breeding stock and to make hash (she makes great hash). Was your cross with her intended to bulk her up or add more flavors?

Thanks she makes an enjoyable smoke, you can really taste the Gunslinger.

This is some hash from a gunslinger, also a lower bud pic from a gs I grew last year with dark period of 64°, top buds were black and purple, some bottom buds were purple and gold

I ordered them from Gu's website a few years ago. I've got six left on ice, had terrible germination with them initially, 2 for 5 w/ 1 female. I'm going to try three of the remainders soon I hope something cracks!

Beautiful bud. Mine got some nice colors, but nothing like that. I typically look for green phenos as they do tend to be more potent than their purple counterparts but I do think my plants that started to purple up tasted better than the ones that didn't.

I didn't pop the original seeds for the two phenos I ran, but if I recall 4 were started and only 2 popped, or 2 were male and 2 were female. Neither seemed to have much flavor and ultimately I kept the more OG like pheno. I guess the germination rates were not great for this variety. And they are not available anymore either so it was clearly a limited release; I guess we should be happy to have some of this plant around.

What kind of flavors and aromas did you get from your GS?

It was interesting because the first two runs of it in the warmer weather were green straight through including the bud, but this 3rd one finished up in January / February and she turned a dark black with purple hues at 64/72°f

First strain with Chemdog in it that I've tried and I've never tried the Starfighter so I'm assuming the unique flavor was the chem flavor, I can see where it might be an acquired taste I'm still kind of undecided on it but the same flavor comes through in the cross I made with the mazar x white rhino and it's fairly potent, I think it's stronger than the Gunslinger, I have a jar of the black Gunslinger here

I've crossed it with a handful of strains including Gorilla Glue, RomBerry and Remo Chemo, I'm going to start some of these crosses soon as well

Edit: I recall it took forever to ripen in the cold, it went around 93 - 100 days and darkened up the last 4 weeks

Its time for the weekly update, sorry about it being a day late again. The three in the flowering tent are all doing great, the Crown Royale is really starting to bloom and the flowers are really stacking. She is grwoing an almost perfect conifer shape; it looks almost like a small christmas tree. The aromas are are getting very strong on the Black Lime, which is exactly what I was looking forward to. The Pineapple Chunk is starting to show its flowers and they are already looking like those beautiful neon green buds with bright orange hairs offered up by skunk variety plants. The PC is growing into a beautiful bush with stretching branches stretching out like arms reaching for the sun. Unfortunately I may have to destroy it, I was taking a few last minute clones and noticed what looks like they might be some male flowers, now I could be wrong so I am going to wait a bit until they prove to be male flowers or female flowers forming oddly.

I took clones off the Praying Mantis plants, but even there I am not sure about the PM#1. There are some weird color streaks and crinkled leaves on that one, I am going to have to keep my eye on that too. It should be very disappointing if I have to destroy the PM#1, it has a really nice smell on the stem rub. The PM#3 is looking strong and healthy with no issues.

So a lot to keep my eyes on, but all in all I am really happy with how this run is coming along.

On to the pics.

This is the possible male flower showing up on what should be a female plant, the Pineapple Chunk.

I grew the Barney's Pineapple Chunk twice, and twice it hermed, mine was from fem seeds.
So far no signs of herming, but I am going to keep my eye on it.

Its looking like both of my Praying Mantis plants are going to be male, PM#1 definitely is. I now have to figure out what I am going to do with it. I really don't have the space at the moment to keep males around. I may just try and find someone who is interested in fostering it until I have the space to dedicate to a few male plants.

Ok sorry I haven't been around all that much over the past few weeks, been super busy with holidays and friends and work and all kinds of other things. Things have been progressing rather nicely in the grow, everything is really starting to stink in there and each plant has its own unique scent; its wonderful when I open the door to the tent. The Black Lime is on its last few weeks of life, I am planning on taking it at 70 days, maybe 72 if it needs so it is getting one last feed and then its onto the flush for it. It is still packing on a bit more girth as it throws out its last calyxes and really swells. It has started to take on some pink and lavender hues around the edges of the leaves giving some beautiful color to this lady. I probably could have gotten a bit more yield out of her if I didn't have issues on the front end, but I am still expecting a pretty nice harvest from her; if nothing else it should be some top shelf bud when dried and cured.

The Crown Royale is proving to be a better plant than I had originally anticipated, the buds are taking on a sweet yet musky aroma that I just want to put into an aerosol form so I can smell it even when away from my plants. It is not going to yield a huge amount but its looking rather nice and should at least taste pretty good. It has shown it is a resilient plant and can handle stress like a champ.

The Pineapple Chunk has been allowed to live, for now at least. It is a hermie, but it does seem as though the male flowers have only shown up on the very bottom of the plant. I am keeping a close eye on it but I think either way I am going to let it finish out. It looks like it should offer a nice yield, I like the growth structure of the plant, a nice bushy plant, but if allowed it will grow a strong dominant cola. I was also looking forward to this one because the flavor options are basically skunk or pineapple, and with either of those options I am good. This was part of my search to move away from the Chem/OG/Diesel line of genetics, so even a little something that is different, even if a bit hermie or with a few seeds.

Also on the unfortunate side is that both of the Praying Mantis Plants have proven to be males, quite disappointing. I was very much looking forward to seeing what this plant had to offer. I was able to find a buddy who will hold onto these two plants for a bit. Maybe at some point I will be able to do a bit of breeding and see what may be locked in those genes. At the moment it kinda hurts and feels like a waste of time, but that is really only because of my very limited space. Even if I had my 4x4 tent set up for veg I would actually be happy to have two males to choose from. I was hoping for at least one girl but oh well. I have lots more to play with, in fact too much.

There are also a few new additions in the garden, a cut of Divine Gelato, a Girl Scout Cookie cut (if I can nurse it back to health) and thanks to a very, very generous gesture from @1diesel1 a couple Love Ferns. Some new seeds just came in from a friends trip to Amsterdam, some LA Confidential and another one I can't remember that was a freebie; those with a friend who is going to pop them all and we will make a final selection from there. Anyway since it has been too long since my last update I am going to inundate you with a ton of pictures.

Ok so here is the once again late update. The girls in flower are really starting to beef up and put on heft. The Black Lime is really putting on weight in the past 7 to 10 days. I am currently planning on a Christmas day harvest (day 72), a nice present to myself. That may be a few days early, but due to my schedule in life and the garden Christmas is the last day I can keep her alive. From afar when the rent is open you can get a spicy, hashy fragrance that is obviously from her, up close it does take a bit of a rub, but she offers some nice lime and fuel scents that really tingle the nose. The buds are really taking on a pink/magenta color as she fades to the finish.

The Crown Royale is really surprising me and I am very much looking forward to trying her out. This was a plant I was gifted, but I took it mostly because I wasn't going to turn down a healthy plant that otherwise would have been trashed more so than I wanted to actually try her out. Well I am so glad I took her, she is proving to be a very easy plant to grow, is rather hardy and now in the last few weeks of her life she is really showing what her potential is. She is putting on some heft to her buds I was not expecting. I think I could have done much better with her if I had transplanted her up into a 3 gallon fabric pot at the switch, I believe she is a bit root bound in her current pot. I am seeing that the buds along her branches could have been a bit larger and left long single buds at the tips rather than a series of individual buds along the branch. She is also starting to put on some really nice rich purple colors in her leaves. But what has me the most excited about her is her aroma, a rich, musky, dank aroma with a strong sweetness to it. I very much hope this flavor transitions to the flavor.

As for the hermie Pineapple Chunk, she has shown no other signs of putting out any male flowers, so that is a good thing. She has gotten a pass and I am very glad I have let her live. She has proven a bit more finicky, she does not like her roots too wet or too dry; thus far I have erred on the side of a bit too dry. That decision kinda bit me in the ass, I let her get a bit too dry one day about a week ago and she temporarily stunted her growth. It actually looked like she was done and ready to harvest with all of her pistils going orange with only a few random white hairs. But she was only at day 35ish, definitely not ready. As I was thinking back to some years ago when I had the UK Cheese and I recalled she did this mid grow stunting. So it may be a trait of that plant (Cheese is one of the parents of the Pineapple Chunk) that does this. But she is back to putting on more bud growth with more white pistils popping up every day. I do expect this plant to go no less than 65 days, though Barney's states it should be good at 55-60 days. The Cheese was a 70 day plant, so that is why I expect a slightly longer grow period than recommended. I keep referring to my experience with the Cheese because everything about this plant reminds me of the Cheese, particularly the smell that is coming on strong now. It has a really pungent aroma that is reminiscent of cheese and a far off skunk spray with a very slight fruitiness on the back end. She is now on day 43 but I will be very light on her nutrients for the next week or so and then she will get an extended flush just in case she wants to finish up before I was expecting.

I did a bit more work on my veg area today; I put one of the Love Ferns into her 5x5 square pot, my new mother plant size. I also put a Divine Gelato that was gifted to me into the same size pot as a mom, she also got a haircut. So there are 2 new moms in the group. I have a second Divine Gelato that was put into a 1 gallon fabric pot with coco on the Dec. 1st. She also got a haircut. But she is quickly proving to be an impressive plant with her roots popping right through the fabric pot. The coco DG will be put into flower as soon as there is room in the tent; I was hoping to put her in a 2 gallon fabric pot, but I may just leave her in the 1 gallon to flower and see how she does. I did get a Black Lime transplanted from a 5x5 square pot into a 2 gallon fabric pot which will also be flipped as soon as there is room. I was gifted a few cuts of Cinderella 99 (from G13 Labs) about 5 days ago, I cut them down and made a total of 7 clones that I am awaiting rooting. This one has me excited as I have been chasing it since I first herd about it in the early 2000's, either in High Times or Jason King's Cannabible. It will be interesting to run that when I get the opportunity and room; though with so many clones I may do a mini SOG in my tent alongside some other larger plants. I do also have seeds from the recent re-release of Cindy 99 from Brothers Grimm that will also get popped and run as soon as I have the room and time.

Anyway that's enough talk onto the pics.

A group shot to start.

To start this update I just want to wish everyone happy holidays.

I gave myself a great holiday present today, an awesome harvest of Black Lime Special Reserve. It came down at day 72, looks and smells amazing. I am sure I could have let it go another 5-7 days, but it was still perfectly ready to take down. It showed its Chem lineage with its continual pushing of new bracts, I have seen that continue right past day 77.

The Crown Royale is really coming along nicely, I am very much looking to harvest her. She smells great, a sweet front end with a deep musky, meaty back end that lingers in the nose. She is taking on some really nice deep purple colors. Her buds are packing on their final weight and getting pretty fat.

The Pineapple Chunk is trying its hardest to stay alive until finishing, but she will probably limp to a slightly early end, which is ok with me. I have been eager to try her. She also smells great, a cheesey, skunky scent with just a hint of tropical sweetness.

Anyway, onto the pics.

Happy New Year to all. My year ended with a harvest and began with a harvest. X-mas day my Black Lime Special Reserve came down and yesterday most of got trimmed and put into jars, the rest will be finished up tonight. I was hoping for 4 ounces off the one plant, and I think I managed to get there, but I won't know for another week as I like to allow the cure to begin before I weigh anything. I did sneak a few quick samples from the harvest and it only has me more excited to get her curred so I can crack into those jars. So far she has a nice citrus zest aroma with undertones of pine and petrol. That aroma transitions to flavor almost exactly with the citrus tonesd down a little bit and th e pine turned up, but maybe a full cure will change that. She does very much remind me of really good quality Chemdog. I also took down the Crown Royale (Day 67) and the Pineapple Chunk (Day 56) yesterday, so another week and those should be finding their way into jars. I was not expecting to take the Pineapple Chunk down as early as I did but I felt the aroma had turned a corner and was becoming more generic so I chopped her. She is still going to provide me with some nice sized buds I just hope she offers a flavor and aroma like I had been smelling up until the past few days. Once these two plants get all jarred I will be getting the next round into the tent.

On the docket is another Black Lime, in coco this time, a Divine Gelato and after a bit of veg time I am going to have a bunch of Cinderella 99 (from G13 Labs) going in. I am really excited about the Cindy, she has been on my must have list for far too long; I have never even had the opportunity to smoke any Cindy, so this is going to be a nice treat for me.

Time for pictures.

On Dec 27 I tried splitting the stem on the Crown Royale, I had been told it increases trichome production. I figured I would give it a shot, I had nothing to loose. I don't think it really did anything one way or the other.

I found a few seeds in the main cola on the Crown Royale, I assumed it came from itself as I saw one other male flower show in the top of one of the other side buds, but there were no seeds near that flower. As I was trimming the Black Lime I saw a couple spend male flowers and am wondering if that was the pollen source for the 3 seeds. Ultimately it doesn't really matter as I don't believe they will be mature enough to pop.

Most of the harvest from the Black Lime, some already made it to the jar at this point.

How tall were those in the end? How many times did you top/FIM?

The Black Lime was topped once and then trained to have an open structure. It finished at about 40" tall. Both the Pineapple Chunk and the Crown Royale were never topped and both finished about 28" tall.
