Not sure about coco loco specifically, I cant imagine it being any different than any other coco, I've seen multiple times people amending their coco, there is already a product being sold apparently called super coco, along the lines of what you were thinking, similar to super soil. But I would imagine the buffering capacity would have to come ammendments as well, coco buffers, but you might screw with the CEC. Also I prefer to feed coco like hydro applications, 3-12x a day on short cycles. Seems to work much much better imo than watering like dirt
Ok So there is a major difference between the three. I've used them all. Have a thread on here start to finish in super coco. Stuff is great. But coco loco falls between the 2. Lightly amended where super coco is completely amended. And it's 30 bucks a bag. Coco loco is ocean forest with Coco. Extremely different from regular coco. Regular coco requires u to pay close attention to what goes on at what ph. I no longer bother phing and when I did with Coco loco the best ph I've found is from 6.0 to 6.4. Far different from the 5.6 to 5.9 in regular coco. Also with Coco loco u can just go with water whenever u want and it doesn't throw everything in the rhiosphere off. There is also a vast difference in consitancy. Coco loco is very similar to soil. In every way. Except u get all the benefits of coco. I've used every medium under the sun. Have my preferences with all of them. But haven't ever used anything that does what coco loco does. My ladies have never been happier. And the price point is perfect. Try it and u will see the differences I've pointed out and more.

I haven't tried the coco Loco yet, but hear nothing but great things about it. I just picked up a block of the roots organic. This brick is the regular cut. Last run I accidentally picked up a brick of the RO coco CHIPS by mistake. The store is a 3 hr round trip...so I just used it. I mix at basically 60/40 perlite/coco. I got amazing performance out of the chips running hempys! My thinking is that it seems to still hold water/nuts well...but gives waaaay increased airation to the roots. Anybody else had any experience with chips? Should the RO oco be rinsed? (Lmao...the chips ran fine with no treatment). Also...has anybody tried "Growstones" (http://www.growstone.com) as a replacement for perlite? The store was out of the #3 (preferred) and #4 perlite! (SHEESH...did I pick the wrong day to go to the store or what)?!!
I use grow stones exclusively. Both the large and small. The small are still the size of chunky perlite. A little more money but a far better product. I've used it from soil to Dec. The ebb and flow table I'm building will utilize grow stones as a medium. Not to mention the are made from recycled material in the USA. I met the owner of the company at the maximum yield event. Awesome guy. I completely recommend this product over perlite. Adds silica to you mix as well.

Respect @Tnelz I wont dispute your knowledge about ammended coco, no experience there. I just meant as far as baseline pure coco pith. I will have to respectfully disagree with ya on the inputs of unammended coco, dont even bother pHing anymore, but I think thats due to me having my feed regiment on lock. Drifts from 5.8-6.2, and happy as clams, I've actually seen the best results when the pH drifts but does so minimally from 5.9-6.1. Once again respect

So while we are on the coco loco topic...I've got a ton of soil I mixed up before this run I'm on now. It is one bag of ocean forrest, one bag of happy frog. I also threw in a little extra perlite, lime, and a bit of happy frog jump start to the mix as well. I'm currently growing my Alien og in the mix right now and that combined with the nectat for the gods in flowet has been extremely good. IVe also got about 3/4 bag of cyco coco. I figured I could mix that coco and soil together in equal parts and get a pretty killer medium similar to coco loco. What do you guys think?

Ty info is great too me . I need a medium that I can watch water and love. And when the girls are happy . I'm happy. So does coco loco, come in bales?

Also important to note, like stated above i wate every 30 min to an hr, keeps the CEC and rhizo in check. Might be mitigating alot of problems otherwise.. I'm only qualified to speak on what works for me lol

Brother I love the input. U know how we do. Its all opinion and what ur preferences are. U grow on a far larger scale than I do so ur knowledge is appreciated. Agree or disagree with me I want to hear it. Much much respect brother. Also my thoughts are totally in line with its on ph drift in coco. My overall point is for someone looking to move to a new medium coco loco gives u the relative safety of soil with all the added bonuses of coco without any of the possible coco headaches. Lol. Long sentence. Lol. So keep it flowing man. Have nothing but respect for u and how u do things.

For sure brother, all love here. I totally agree with you, I like my shit to be exact all the time, so I don't mind taking the lumps of learning with coco, shit helps me really fine tune it. But you are so so right, the learning curve is much more steep than ammended stuff. Low buffering capacity, the CEC amongst other things can have your plants fried real quick if youre not on top of it. I actually think full hydro is easier than coco. I just hate dealing with 100 buckets or 10 tables, much easier dealing with pots.

P.s. I'm not on of those snobs who equate lights to skill, I do appreciate your compliment, but to me, it don't matter if you got 1 light vs 100, skill, proficiency, experience, and expertise are where its at. I could give some kid off the street my setup and I'm sure you'd kill his grow in quality and quanitity. I hold you as a equal peer, in my eyes, you got just as much to input as me bro

@giggles PLants look lovely btw, and really not trying to come off as a dick head but that glue shot for day 34 looks like it could be stacking harder for how healthy they look. Mind if I ask what your regiment is?

It's cool bro! Criticism Is good! And you're right she could be stacking way harder but it's first run with her and I looked and she's only 29 days in. She's also been through hell and back so I've got a nice big girl veggin up of her now so I'll give her another crack at it now that I've got a feel for her. She's had a fan dropped on her, got over fed and yea she's had a rough life lol.

Oh and my regime is a custom mix I make up consisting of some peat, compost, lil bokashi, perlite and lil green sand and some EWC and then I feed and supplement with teas as needed. It's usually feed feed, water water water, feed feed.

Sorry if this doesn't make sense I'm a lil stoned off a sample nug of the gsc bagseed :)

@giggles First run makes alot of sense, my first run with glue came out a lot worse in yield than yours will lol. you should kill it 2nd run. I'm talking colas bigger than your arm. Just be careful not to top her too much or she'll spit micro tops(3-4 nodes per top). They look really healthy I think its just a matter of running her and dialing her in, obviously not what youre feeding bc it looks like it works.

@SeaF0ur Where the hell are ya at?! Unreg wants you to come back after your ban lol, I think he misses ya lol

@SpitXFire ha thanks bro! I look at everyone else in the room flipping over and massive nugs everywhere with still 2-3 weeks to go and then I look at her and just get sad lol.

Thanks for the tip on not topping to much. I'll stop where I'm at then lol.

Loompas moondawg is kicking some real serious ass in there, esp for my first run. Can't wait to run her again!

What do you guys think about using coco wit no perlite or aeration?

It should work juuuuuuust fine lol. Pure coco was my go to before I found out bout chow mix. Chow mix has one primary function for me- to cut down on coco usage lol. Straight coco works super, Jack @ TLC actually switched from chow to straight coco if I'm not mistaken.

Thats whats great about this thread . different opinions, methods and no need for pissing contests as we all respect each other and know there is no , one way . no trolls or kids with over sensitive personality .

Couldn't have said it better myself. This place has turned into exactly the kind of place I like to be. Never thought it would be this huge. Thanks to everyone.

Yea T man I have to say add a bit o somin in it,
I have been in Coco fer a min and every run has been a 70/30 split with the Hydroton, I am on 4th use of the same Coco, and only one real issue was a mistake I made of my own doing.
I did run a few plants in pure coco to see and what I found was unless you water 3 or 4times a day with auto feeders the amount of Oxygen to the root mass is reduced, as with the Hydroton the space was always present as well as the pockets for air.
Win Win
