I was going to give them a couple days before I started removing the lower fans. Probably just before their next watering.
I will probably do some training on the runt just for that reason. I don't want it getting out of control lol.
Keep the fans, just remove veg growth that u don't want

I personally recommend 4 tops minimum for each plant. Just based on seeing your available space. And if not sexed yet maybe go for 8. That would compensate for the empty grow space later on once the males were removed.

As for the runt. You trim it up right you can count that split stem as the 1st topping. Then use those 2 first new growth tips on each side (4 total). They will be your 4 tops. Trim off the excess (leaving the fan leaves for each growth tip of course).

Also I would start training the new branches as soon as you feel there is enough room for your bonds. They bend easier while new and harden up as they grow. So the sooner the better/less chance of tears or breaks.

Not as tall as yours I have been following your grow lol. But I can let them get to about 28 inches at finish so I am trying to bush them out a bit with the training to maximize them.
You're on the right track. Think of topping like the Hydra... Cut off one and two grow back

Once he grows 4 tops and sees how beautiful they look (best part of the plant). Next grow he'll be craving 8 tops. Then

I have read a few different ways after the initial topping. One is to remove everything below that node. Another is remove all veg growth below that node and leave all fan leaves. I also have read to let the plant recover for approximately 2 weeks before removing anything then start removing growth below that node.
I feel what I will be doing is waiting a couple days then removing all growth except for fan leaves. After they grow enough to do another topping I will then remove the lower fan leaves below the first topping. Give them a few days to recover then remove the growth at the second node and leave the growth on the 1st and 3rd nodes below the second toppings. This will then give me 8 tops per plant if all goes well.
As far as sexing them they are all feminized seeds but I will still be checking just to be on the safe side and also looking for hermies.

Just did a quick check on the girls this morning and they are ready for their trip to the salon. I will be doing my usual daily update later with pictures after their new style :)

Well there is no turning back now. They seem to be responding well to their new do.
After trimming they were feed and closed back up in the tent to recover. I ended up removing all below the top fan leaves to hopefully concentrate all energy to the top growth tips.
Here they are.

Now that I see that runt wow. It's going crazy! It is gonna be a little bush! You did a nice trim job on it. Looks like you can just let it grow out from here.

Yeah I think I will kind of let it grow as is with some lst and light trimming here and there. Other than that seems like it will produce fairly well as long as I stay on top of it.
I'm going to push it a little and try to wait until they are about 13 to 14 inches before flipping them and hope I don't run out of vertical space. We shall see.

That's a good height target for you. We have similar space height requirements. I flipped at "10. But I think I could have pushed it to "12-"15. I was a little conservative the first time around.

I think the girls are liking their new trim. Giving them some space to stretch out a bit. These pictures 6 hours after their trimming.

They are looking healthy and great. I would start tying them down now while the new shoots are fresh and flexible still.

They are looking great bud.. Just always think of plants like us.. Feeding as an example.. Little bit at a time and they benefit from it. instead of huge portions or high ppm's etc. .. :) It is the people who get lazy and chop off massive sections in flower at once that have issues..

Any healthy plant can benefit from good stress. :)

Ok so after taking some time to relax a bit I decide to go down and check on the girls. I guess bats like cannabis? I was like wtf. We haven't had a bat in the house in about 3 years and I go down to see a bat crawling around the clones stumbling and falling over then crawling up and liking the clones and drinking the water it is in. So then my decision was do I go up and grab my camera and hopefully its still there or do I catch it and set it outside before the wife sees it a freaks the hell out lol. So I did the later. But really a bat going nuts over the clone just surprised me.
So now the bat is gone and I go to the tent to check things out and first thing I see are 2 small little flies that look like the little gnats we get occasionally because we vape in the house and they are attracted to the smell. This time I do go up and grab my camera to see if I can get a picture of one and this is the best I could get.
20160621 172932

I was able to catch one and kill it but the other hid somewhere the little bastard. So I read on fungus gnats and not sure if its that or the stupid little gnats we get sometimes or not. My question is what is the best way to get rid of them quickly without chemicals?
