Nope...not cold and snowy....yet, bigdaddy....but it's coming...as always. Was 55/83 yesterday so we have a bit of margin left before the bottom drops out.

Creek is jammin today. Must be all of the rain last week (?). Either way, there's 3 x the water flowing now that there was a week ago...gotta love it. Freaks me out that I actually >own< all of this.

Damn CM. I love chicken but I'd be eatin a lot of salad if I had to do the deed. LOL.

Grabbin the doobie and the paint brush....and after a bit of painting, I'm gonna attack the install of another new window.

"Looks good Norm" "Thanks Steve".....

Huh, we're kind of doing the same sorts of things, urban. Yard work, putting up cameras, I fucked up a shipping label and instead of trying again to deliver, the post office is returning my package. I really don't like using a keyboard that doesn't have a 10-key pad to the right, I've been using 10-key since freshman year of high school, and I know where the 5 is.

Since we're clearing out so much manzanita, we're losing it as a visual screen between us and Lefty up the hill, so I've been putting together a list of plants to put in, and I need (really seriously prefer) evergreens. So I'm thinking that maybe Green Acres would be a good place to go, unless someone in the Sact'o/foothill/Mother Lode region has any suggestions otherwise. I know we have a lot of nurseries out on the flats, but I haven't had good luck going through our local yellow pages, and Google is showing me weird locations. I have the following plants on my list, I am Sunset West zone 7:

Cedar (native incense cedar)
Oleander
Sequoia sempervirens
Laurus nobilis (sweet bay)
Umbellaria californica (California laurel/California bay)
Rhaphiolepis 'Majestic Beauty' (or similar for zone 7)
Loquat
Evergreen huckleberry; Vaccinium ovatum
Spruce of some sort
Feijoa
Artemisia (wormwood, does great out here)
Rosemary, both culinary and medicinal
Lavendar, culinary and medicinal
Mountain hemlock (?)
Abelia x grandiflora

I have a local "plant lady" who once or twice a month sells plants. We have gotten boysenberries, trees, jap maple and I will be picking up some cascading rosemary for my MMJ garden today. She is awesome, always has so many cool things to show/sell

Yeah... Sunset says it suckers a lot, I appreciate the warning. I have some cedar and Artemisia already, we got the cedars for free from a local's property, we just had to dig 'em up ourselves. That was back in '06, though, and for this we want plants as big as possible, we need quick results.

look into Royal Empress if you want big trees! We picked up 2 and they are growing like crazy! They were both purchased last year and claim 8+feet a year in growth, huge shade leaves and flower once a year. The one I put in th back for shade is already 7+ feet. I have removed all but 4 main branches for future stability and cant wait to see them flower

So why is the neighbor called "Lefty", sea? Favored hand...political views...or something else? Plantin trees, huh? I swore I'd never plant a tree here at this new place 'cus it's all wooded...but BillyBobcat tore out a couple of trees to get his BillyBobcat onto the upper property and opened up/lessened the privacy from the road in the process so we MAY stick a few trees over there if we can find the right trees for a decent price. Damn..if only he would left it alone. Humans make EVERTYTHING better though when they fuck with it...right? Yeah....right.

Mo painting and caulkin here today. Even on a little house there's a lot of shit to hit. Wow. Doesn't help it all need major prep! Been buying those 20 packs of full sheet 60 grit and just rippin through 'em. LOL. Isn't home ownership fun? :D
Anybody reading along do flooring? Need to find a good product like Gyp-crete (no, not a nickname for the Gypper) that can be used to renew some flaking concrete. Ideas? Just a shot/willful thinking that someone here might know. We >are< a very diversified bunch, fo sho. Either way...I need to find a solution/approach that will work.

And...has anyone ever used "Dipel" to control caterpillars (fall webworms)? What about systemics? Anyone ever drilled any trees/applied systemics directly into the trunk? Gonna declare war on these bastards next Summer, for sure so need to find out as much info as possible. Looks like Dipel is a BT species....like the mosquito dunk stuff..... and not a nasty chem.....anyone have experience here? I need to figure this one out cus when these things come down out of the trees (after eating the entire tree) they eat most everything they come in contact with. Dunno what they'd do to a pot plant but I don't wanna find out...

it's always something...huh?

I have, but aren't they deciduous? I'd like evergreens.

He's an asshole drunkard who cut off two of his own fingers (from his left hand) while using a circular saw while drunk. There's a lot more to 'our' story, but it all boils down to a dog and another neighbor who wanted the dog. My dog. Left cut off his own fingers long before that, though. Cut off the middle set of fingers, so I like to hold mine up and say, "Mahalo!" \_/_ <--- like that. Or, "Rock & roll!" 'Cept I have to hold my fingers down and he doesn't. No, I've never said it to his face.

Yeah, well, we've torn all this manzanita down, which means we lose that privacy and I've GOT to have privacy. I walk naked out on the back deck!

I have Dipel on hand. It's downstairs, are you asking if it's good for the web-worms? Can you get a picture of these worms? I found a huge horde of worms on one of my poplars earlier in the year and they'd eaten some branches down badly. So, I shook them off thinking it was futile, and they never came back.

Like these. White moth...lays eggs under the leaves...caterpillars hatch...eat EVERY leaf on the tree...then crawl off and eat anyhting else they enjoy munching on. Then they evidently burrow in for the winter...and rehatch as moths in Spring. Had I known a month ago this was all in play I could have hit em sooner. As it is now....it's all reactive measures and the effort will take out a few...but probably not enough to make a huge dent in the cycle next year. It's fuckin WAR tho....LOL. Bitches.

And with the creek right here....I have to use products that won't kill the fish/fuck everything else up. Been spot hitting the nests down low with clove oil/rosemary organic stuff from Homo Depot....but like I say....I'm not winning the War just yet. I think the Dipel applied properly will >really> fuckem up but I think I missed the window this year.

Ah, no, what I found doesn't quite look like that. But I've seen tents of webs on trees like madrone out here, and all the way up through Oregon when driving up to Portland a couple of times.

Unfortunately, the clove oil and rosemary are toxic to aquatic animals. Clove oil is used by fishkeepers to put sick fish out of their misery. I think Spinosad and the Bt concoctions will work, but I don't know if Btk will work specifically on these animals. I think Dipel (Bt kurstaki) *is* approved, let me do some searching for ya, ok?

Ok, it looks like it is approved Tx for leaf-eating caterpillars. I can go check my label on the package I have downstairs if you like, but I agree, if the tents are already thick you may have lost your window of opportunity.

Finished spreading the roadbase for the upper driveway. Happiness is having your own tractor to do things at your discretion without having to shit money for a rental and then be facing a timeline to get the damn thing back to the rental supply....
