Here's your shades; now that you're a non- recallable vet, you're no longer an 'asset'- your're now a 'liability' to be minimized, ignored, have roadblocks thrown up in front of, etc. Because you don't contribute anymore. At least not to the the economy of building, using and trashing more expensive war materiel.

Get registered, get to the voting box and once there, notice how alone you are most of the time, during most electrons. It's amazing how many people believe the bullshit and don't even bother to show up on polling day. Now that you've seen the other half of the problem- public apathy- you understand why so many of us are HERE.

RESPECT to those of you fighting this fight. Sucks enough just gettin old...I can't even imagine the struggles you must face daily..inside and out. My hat is off to you.
If any of you are in CO and ever need extra help, the garden here is usually able to handle the offering and nothing would make me happier than to share with someone who has sacrificed so much.

ALWAYS. .Eventhough I CANNOT claim a side in these so called Politics. I try every session go with my wife ( advit voter on EVERYTHING) AND play my part it's sometimes hard to do for me as i saw up close the carnage lead by our supreme leaders. then the neglect after no more usage. I knew what was coming my way as i went enlisted most my family were officers i wanted no handouts when it came to that. I know now that i should've just went to a engineer school and left that legacy to my elders. I have no regrets. Traveled the world seen shit most men will never witness. I would just want our Leaders to be COMMON MEN not INFLUENCED by the Currency and Greed..

Same here. Seeing the product of my effort and passion going to someone in need is why I'm here. The rest is to cover the bills so I can do more of it. I innovate and build gear so others can do the same.

My dear friend has been a military wife for 29 years now. Because of her husband's position, she is called upon to fulfill *many* unpaid duties. All of this doesn't just affect the servicepeople, it affects their families as well. You mentioned you're married, I know your wife has a viewpoint that's not often shared with others.

That term, voting, is coming up again. Vote the incumbents who aren't truly representing you and your needs out. Period.

I am preparing to write my representative, Tom McClintock, regarding his stance on sensitive lands where certain endangered species reside. The species ain't moving, but his stance is to *not* allow Forestry to set aside what are actually mostly ALREADY national park lands for preservation. The lack of foresight in such a stance is staggering to me, it reflects the fishing industry prior to the herring collapse, what John Steinbeck wrote after Ed Ricketts went and figured it out, it's cutting one's nose off to spite their face, for all intents and purposes. While I'm at it, I'll be asking him why Congress wants to force tanks down the military's throat that it says it doesn't need. How about some pay cuts for y'all while you're at it, too, eh? A few hundred million here, a few hundred million there, and next thing we know, we're almost to a billion. Inconceivable numbers when I was a kid are thrown around now as though they're nothing.

No need for sorrys my dear..I agree with you..I had.to be one of the few kids growing up in the ghettos of east Oakland cali Picking up trash and bringing trash bags to the bball court on Sundays took alot of slack for it..My grammy always said no matter where u live. .Nobody's gonna respect it better than you.Got joked on alot..i was like a alien ina picture of farmer's. .im way in the back Unnoticed. .Wildlife should be held up there with everything we believe. im afraid that new Matt Damon movie is almost telling half truth. .Cuz art imitates reality. And if we (the not wealthy folks) don't start Seriously taking care of this planet MANE!!!! We're screwed. Fycked..Gone. .idk bout yall but i know zero aliens unless he's gonna expose themselves once the "ISH" goes down lol can't grow trees without Clean Air!!

You grew up near where my husband and father-in-law grew up. FIL was O-town Proper(rrrr, as my sister likes to chide me), and hubby was Decoto in Union City.

And, yeah, I feel that if we don't figure out environmental shit out SOON, we will all collectively be hoist with one seriously big-ass petard. And I don't think that all life on earth will die off, I think it's going to be us humans and certain domesticated animals, and that's it. So, ultimately, being environmentally-conscious is a selfish act.

Agreed. I think it's already too late. My interest in environmentalism at this point is, realistically, just to buy enough time to colonize space before we finish wrecking this planet- and each other.

Hahaha..when i finally move from this suburban Setting to a more woodsy setting that wont be too far from reality lol Solar Panels the whole 9...If i was able to find Fresh Enough seafood In az id be there. Haven't Had Quality Seafood here since I've been here.Soft Shell Crab Sandwich on soft fresh Italian bread..YASSSSSSS!!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for every environmental restoration and preservation project I can vote for! I just think that the long term trend is irreversible. Read Dr. Jared Diamond's books, 'Guns, Germs & Steel', and especially 'Collapse' and you'll see where I'm coming from.

I believe, thus, that our hobby is one of the most important things that we can do for our future. Eventually, whether on this planet or not, we (or our children's children) will be eating our daily rations from rooms like these.

There are two key differences between an advanced society and a primitive one, which are education and power. By education, I mean knowledge about how to manipulate the physical world to meet our needs. Sustainability isn't a criteria, even if it is desirable. By power, I mean harnessing energy beyond the effort of one's body our that of animals. Fire does not make for an advanced society, but using it to make stream and operate machinery does. Again, this is independent of any idea about sustainability- even though many means of power generation have serious consequences.

I have read G,G&S, but not Collapse. I'm actually more into Victor Davis Hanson's arguments made in Carnage and Culture: Landmark Battles In The Rise of Western Power. I feel his argument makes much more sense in the historical and geo-political context. MUCH more controversial, to be sure.

Where we're at is nothing like any other historical context, because human density has never before achieved these proportions. I don't know that any other organism's numbers have, outside the cyanobacterial-driven Great Oxygenation Event. Mmm... stromatolites.

Silent Running, or Soylent Green? Or maybe more like The Omega Man.

Robert Heinlein's many books refer to his 'alternate timeline' in which humans left Earth in a Great Diaspora brought on by vague political events. Yeah, I'm a sci fi fan from way back too. Two concepts about to make the leap from sci fyi to reality:

Home power generation. Fuel cells will make this possible, cheap natural gas will make it desirable. Buy your own power plant, do what you want with the power, even sell the excess back to the grid.

individuals acting as, and having the powers of, nation states. Your neighbor, with a spy drone. Your boss, with background search.com. Dumb kids dumping terrabytes of classified information online. Instant, self taught t@rrorists, popping up whenever there's an internet connection, complete with sophisticated bombs made from online instructions. 3D printers, to home manufacture anything from from robots to firearms.

Welcome to the future.
