Wow man, first off let me say that I appreciate your time and consideration in writing this post. Have zero fear that you're being perceived in anything but a friendly manner and that I enjoy the wisdom of other people's experience and perspective. Good vibes spirit solidly intact.

I can tell you that my earlier posts regarding my recent injuries were written at the peak of my frustration, and I'll be honest in this anonymous-ish forum and admit that I've spent the last few weeks in the first real depression that I've experienced in many years. However, I'm currently in a much better spot and have begun rounding the corner on this little funk.

I love what you wrote and I can identify with your speech in several ways. I hope this can be taken in the nature it is intended, but most things don't come to me with a great deal of struggle. For that reason powerlifting has become very important to me because I've had to work harder for the things I've accomplished in this domain than almost any other. One of the reasons the timing of all of this is particularly hard - because I was coming back from one of my first experiences with underperformance on the platform that I could directly attribute to my own poor effort in the preceding off-season training block. I had vowed never to let that happen again and had a brutal off-season followed by one of the best meet preps of my life and that was when I had to drop out of prep about a year ago now. It still leaves a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth that the last time I was able to compete I took my ability for granted.

It also reminds me of when I played cards for a living (a couple years in my 20's in Vegas). I never got upset at an early out in a tournament if I was making the right plays and got donked by some tourist. But when I was playing loose or made a stupid decision or didn't wait for my spot and I got outed that way...I got pretty upset.

Dude you said:

"The few times I have actually given myself permission to say I worked hard enough, I have never regretted it afterward. Ever."

That's some of the truest shit I ever read, and echoes very closely my guiding principles in life.

Anyways I do have to get back to work but I think we agree on goals also. When you get too specific about things you set yourself up for resentments. Still, I've given myself until I'm 40 to go after a 2k total (a meet where your heaviest single completed rep on squat, bench and deadlift together total over two thousand pounds) and I'm not gonna be able to shake that one.

I'm not taking this laying down, I'm still out in my gym 3x a week doing upper body training without loading my feet. A lot of larsen press work - basically I'm still doing all my programmed bench work but with my feet off the ground, I'll come back with a monster bench. Tomorrow I have the next appointment with my surgeon to get new x-rays and (hopefully) permission to walk on it again. In the long term (another) 6 weeks is the blink of an eye and I'm still uniquely positioned and privileged to get to continue my training at all.

Makes sense with the plants too, as it does with most things in life. Take the time to do things right, keep the effort high and yourself honest and usually the results will reflect that. So often in life the results of anything or everything we do are a reflection of our own integrity.

Thanks again for the thoughts and words brother.

BR
That's awesome man, thanks so much for your response. Your poker analogy makes me laugh because that's been in the air for me too....during flu my college friend group has started a weekly zoom poker game. Two hour cash games just shooting the shit with enough money to get our attention but only just...and like you said, there's a big difference in regret level depending on how "on" you were when you made the decisions you made, even at that loose level.

Btw, that poker game? Seven months later of almost every week and nobody is more than one really good or bad week from even in either direction 😆😂....if that isn't an evenly skilled group lol ..yes we have a spreadsheet bc cmon.

Haha I love it man! And I love the spreadsheet. I was a very data driven player. I played tournaments for fun and prestige or whatever but I grinded out cash games for the rent. It's nearly 100% about the math when you're playing that way and has very little to do with individual talent of a given person. If you can keep the odds of making your hand and the pot odds of a given bet straight you can make ~75% of your decision on basic arithmetic.

Then it becomes about endurance. When you make a call on a hand that's a 5:1 dog to be made by the river but the pot odds are 15:1 on the call you make that call every single time. But now you have to play long enough to cover statistical variance that you'll end up hitting the 1/5 triple up at some point in the session. I'd play for two or three days straight and take meals at the table.

I play a couple house games every now and then but I gotta let people know up front about my background or it can come off shitty :p There's one weekly game a friend of mine runs in a sign printing shop where a bunch of middle aged dudes come get stoned without their wives nagging them and that's always good for a couple laughs and a few hundred bucks.

It would appear that I've gotten the humidity under control, you can see the exact moment I hooked up the controller around 11:30:

Now it's running a constant ~63% RH but a bit hotter, towards 80 degrees. Probably tune the RH up even a little bit more for that reason:

Yeah, we all have an idea of pot odds and hand odds but we have never been really serious about it. For me playing with the same people so often and always being high, it's become a really interesting exercise in empathy lol. I will sit hard on a read if i believe in it just because I know the player.

But yeah I'm sure you would clean up against us.

Don't look any better though...30 minutes before lights out. I'm thinking it's probably a combination of stress from the cold then warming way up and light cycle irregularities etc. I wanna give them a few days of steady 18/6 (with no more timer malfunctions) and see how they look.

To keep myself honest however (yuck they look so sad):

Intuitive players are good no matter what :) I'm sure we'd have fun

Man today has been such a roller coaster already. Some of it is my fault...I shouldn't have had expectations of what the Dr. would say today - expectations are only a short step from resentments.

Anyways I woke up and the ladies were looking much better, so that was rad! Figured I had the humidity better dialed and we were getting somewhere. Seemed to be rebounding from my mistreatement:

1605119853117

Starting on that high note I headed off to the surgeon's office to get new x-rays and was expecting the go-ahead to start walking in the boot. X-rays looked good, screws still in place:

1605119931540

Dr comes in - 'your foot looks great, it's healing perfect, exactly what we wanted to see.' THEN THIS MF

'so another two weeks before you can begin walking in the boot, then another two weeks light modified walking before we consider whether you want to start another round of physical therapy'

I could have shit. I didn't really say anything and I need to suck it up cause another two weeks isn't that big a deal etc but fuck man.

So yea of course then I came home to this:

I'm over it for the day guys 🙏

Are they thirsty? What is your light like?

Nah they're in SIPs so it's possible that it's the opposite and the soil wicked up too much moisture from the reservoir? They drink a lot slower in veg but usually have to fill every few days.

Light is 3500k COB LED's from Timber, about 30" right now and the plants were getting ~30k lux. I dialed that back to around 25k when I came back and saw them slumped.

It's still getting into the high 50's in the tent at night (with the lights on) so I'm wondering if temperature could be contributing? I bought a heater and temp controller I'll get put in today and keep them over 70

Dang bud, that's a rough prognosis. All worth it in the end and at least you got these little ladies rubbing your back.

Those temps could definitely be contributing, especially if you're checking them close to lights on. Is your light schedule set opposite to the sun?

Okay yeah. Just looks like they are slowing down transpiration a bit for whatever reason.

Yea basically - it's set opposite the peak pricing hours for SDG&E ;) it's 18/6 with lights off at 2p and back on at 8p. That makes the morning when I checked them about the middle of their day, and the second time when they were droopier I guess you could call afternoon/evening.

Ok that's kind of what I thought too - bringing the ambient temp up a bit should help with that right?

It might free them up to want to transpire a bit more, yeah.

Something like that is more of an optimization problem than your plant being.... unhappy, hopefully. Like she won't die from it. Just...part of the factory is operating below capacity because of inefficiencies in another part of the factory. Not ideal but not like the factory is on fire hopefully.

Yea that's how I've been seeing it too, but I really want to see them thriving. This is my first time growing in the winter months so I am still learning. I have finally got the RH/fan combo dialed in now I just wanna get the temps consistent more around 70-75 and I think they'll be happier...

Yea the EarthBoxes are on casters so they're off the ground. But the tent is directly on the cement....maybe I should add a horse stall mat under the boxes for insulation.
Anything you add would probably help so long as it's not collecting moisture.

I never really even considered it since they're off the ground but the bottom of the box (holding the res water) is really only an inch or two off the cement as it is. A lot of cold radiates off that cement slab. I bet they'd benefit greatly from an extra layer there and I have a bunch of stall mat scraps from building deadlift platforms
