I love that you are diving so deep into this and sharing it on the forum! There are so many questions around all the compounds and what is actually doing what. Maybe we can answer some of these with all your testing, I really hope so at least... I may not comment much but I definitely read it all and I'm fascinated. PLEASE don't stop!!!
I definitely notice you reading/liking and appreciate it!

A loosely related tangent, but @Moe.Red , it occurred to me as I'm closing in on harvesting a couple of plants, is there any lucidity you can bring to all of the bro-sci surrounding harvest timing? e.g. Always harvest in the morning. Give the plants 24 hrs of dark before harvest. Milky trichomes are best. Amber trichomes are best. What's the word? Can you shine any real science on this question from your testing?

Short answer is no. Variables are staggering. Even within a plant, you have the tops that finish before the bottom.

What you are going for is another big variable. And of course the plants themselves. Milky or amber trichomes are best - for what? THC?

The harvest in the morning thing is something I have read that kinda makes bro-sciency sense - that terpenes are released throughout the day so first AM should be the most. But there are implicit assumptions there as well, and I have no way to test at home for terps.

On another thread I am doing some UV testing. This will have the side impact of seeing what happens to a plant as it matures with testing. I think it might tell us a few things, or perhaps set the stage for another test targeted at your questions.

click on it. lol

There's more about UVA & UVB to improve flavor and trichome production, and UVC to kill off fungus, mold spores and other nasties (spiders, bugs and stuff). It's germicidal. I'll see if I can find it.

I'd like to connect with other grower searching for THCV genetics. The universal answer from google is always Doug's Varin, but the genetics are heavily protected so don't bother. But there are other strains that hold promise; e.g. Durban Poison (the landrace, NOT the Dutch version), Ethiopian, Wild Thailand, and a handful of others that specifically tout their THCV concentration, but to my knowledge, nothing has been independently verified.

Anyone grow anything out that's been lab tested or holds promise?

I read that Tangie, Pineapple Purps, Durban Poison, Girl Scout Cookies and Dutch Treat are naturally high in THCV. No wonder three of these are among my favorites! And that's probably due to the fact that I haven't tried the other two. Have lots of GSC for comparison if you're close. If you grow GSC, top it more than once if you have any problem with a plant over 8 feet tall in a 12 gal. bucket!

There are very few strains with THCV. Durban and Swazi are two I know of for sure.

I've grown GSC before, but obviously a different cultivar. Mine had none.

Who would I need to kill to get some Dutch Treat from you? PM me if you're interested in trading genetics.

I hear its the thin mint pheno. She represents the Durban side. My first Durban run was from seeds of Africa. Had one survivor from the pack. Landraces are tough for a newb grower. Lol 😆 when she finally finished, she was eucalyptus, pepper, and mint.

Hello, I just found this forum (and thread) searching around for info on THCV.

This is my first post here. I found out about THCV accidentally. I hadn't smoked anything in some years, and a friend told me about this strain he was using that he said gave him energy and motivation. He gave me some, and I was kind of hesitant because I thought it would give me munchies, and I was severely overweight. So I tried a tiny hit in a pipe. Boy, it was strong. Lunch time rolled around where I would usually stuff myself after a few aperitivi, and I wasn't really hungry, and the thought of eating kind of turned me off. Wow - this is great! I kept using it, and now over a year later, I have lost 65 pounds. The strain? Durban Poison. It not only killed my appetite, it made me feel satiated after eating very little. It also turned me off to alcohol, and helped me develop better eating habits, so my dependence on the smoke lessened.

Last week I harvested a couple of ounces of Jack the Ripper f2 from Subcool seeds. Got it from a cool US seller too. It's in cure right now. I only have room for a very small grow, so I use a "space bucket" of my own design. Three plants in a trash can with lights on top, grown in an ultra simple hydroponic setup. There are pics, but I don't know if I'm allowed to link them here.

I've read through the two threads on this subject with much interest, you guys are light years ahead of where I am, but I thought I would share my experience. I'm a real novice at this. Right now I have some Novarine seeds on order from Spain.

Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen any mention of the terpine humulene, which is also claimed to be an appetite suppressant. I just found out about this the other day, and am looking for more info on it.
