Genetics: Pure Manipuri Ganja Plant
Latitude: 24°N
Regional Harvest: mid December to mid January
Height: 1m - 4m in natural outdoor environment
Yield: up to1kg or more of dried flowers in natural outdoor environment
Aroma: earthy, light citrus, minty when cured
Characteristics: strong 'sativa' high, smooth smoking
Traditional Purpose: ganja
Grow Type: greenhouse or outdoors
A surprisingly strong 'sativa' from the traditional ganja growing region of Imphal Valley, Manipur. Rare and little known in the West.
The Meitei people of Manipur have a long tradition of growing strong ganja, and are related to the Shan and Thai; like them the Meitei originally migrated south to their present home from Yunnan, China. Manipur is in Northeast India, on the border with Burma - ganja culture here is at the frontier of India, to the west, and Indochina to the east. The genetics of this strain may reflect this.
Manipuri ganja plants can grow up to 4 metres tall. Most are green with a light earthy citrus aroma, curing to smooth minty ganja. A minority of plants are purple; this is the prized 'chahao' type ('chahao' being the Meitei name for black rice). Fields are usually sown around June to July and harvested in December to January. Females are usually allowed to be lightly seeded. The traditional technique is to semi dry buds, then bind them tightly with cloth and leave them for one day. Once bound together like this buds are then unpackaged and left to dry in the sun, after which they are cured for a couple of months. Even after such rough treatment this Manipuri strain is surprisingly strong, as strong as good Thai or Lao ganja, and smokes very smoothly. It would be very interesting to see how these plants perform with kinder Western techniques. Little seen genetics with promising breeding potential.
ThisWell, been doing a bit MORE digging and found some very interesting information! So it turns out that apparently African Black Magic is actually a cross breed hybrid of Swazi Rooi Bart cannabis strain and the Black Congolese! Which genetically explains the green/black AND the blue/black phenotype!
I assure you that the legendary phenotype that DJ Short wrote about is an actual BLACK plant! The curing process is NOT what makes it black! My friend says the seeds are 'pitch black' and the plants start put really dark, almost like too much nitrogen, but the plant starts turning black about knee high and is not determined by flowering cycle or cold temps! It's genetics!!!
If and when I finally get the REAL African Black Magic cannabis landrace seeds, then I will grow them out to stabilize the strain, but you will see that everything that I've said has been absolutely TRUE! THEN, you will be amazed! It's gonna happen!
To be honest though, I don't see any darkness to the buds of Black Magic Kush here in the pics... bright green.
I will keep updates going brother!
Good luck and happy growing! View attachment 1155126
I have to disagree. I smoked quite a bit and it's definitely not from an all black plant. This
Smoke some of this, Ice Hash BallsI could never smoke a whole joint these days. Couple puffs usually gets me super baked.
Very pretty. Dry ice method?
Bubble Hash Method, my favorite, but a lot of work…Very pretty. Dry ice method?
Oh man you don't have a work or something I mean be part of stoned interactions can be difficultPersonally, I can smoke a LOT of weed! I usually use a vape pen and cartridge that I make! If not, I put shatter on top of my bowl! I'm baked ALL the time!
So I had some conversations a with an vietnam war veteran friend of mine a a couple months back ( smokes up in this super dope old Chinese silver opium pipe which gets super clogged with herb resin to the point he has to boil it out cause every glass bowl he gets does the same thing and I need to get him a dynavap some RSO or something poor man says he can barley even handle smoking anymore) he said that they used to smoke something called black elephant or they also called it elephant weed. After seeing the original picture of BAM in this thread and then hearing his stories I was like no way could this be something similar? He also said he smoked some kind of weed from africa if i recall correctly called black mamba? But he said the elephant weed buds were so dark they looked black and was strong he said you couldn't even roll it in a joint you had to put it in a bowl cause it would clog up the joint!. Who knows could this have been pure weed that generates that much resin? There has got to be people who were in WI or MI in that 80s timeframe who had to smoke as much or more of it than me out there. Where are they?
I lost contact with the others who smoked it with me over time. Too bad.
I read someone on here posted that BAM is a cross between Black Congolese x Swazi Rooi Bart. How true could this statement be because by looking at the coloration of those strains that's very likely. Who's up for some experimental cross breeding? I found a possible source for Black Congolese just having trouble finding the Swazi Rooi Bart seeds that is of course if this strain isn't the true Black african magic. What do you guys think could this possibly be it?
Hey Puritybread, welcome to the thread!
Yes, I posted that info! Slight misspelling, I apologize for my first source's mistake. Rooibaard is the CORRECT spelling.
Anyway, one of my friends from Durban has the REAL African Black Magic! He's doing a seed run and should be done soon! Plus, he just bought 200 MORE! He's promised me some seeds! I'm waiting for his first shipment that's supposed to include KwaZulu landrace from just outside of Durban, Malawi and Blue Dreams that the seeds of are black! He also has the Rooibaard Transkei, but only about 30 seeds, so he's going to make more of those too! So, IF you have the BLACK Congolese and Rooibaard, then theoretically, you could make the African Black Magic!
Now my other friend from Africa is supposed to be sending me real black Congolese Black seeds a some Durban Poison seeds!
Unfortunately, it could take months to get them, if they arrive! Postal service can be difficult. We will see...
With that being said, I'm anxious to do some breeding projects myself! So my opinion is that the black dominance of the Black Congolese is the REAL catalyst in these SUPER potent black strains such as Black Magic or black Elephant weed, that you mention sounds as potent as the Black Magic!
I want to cross the Black Congolese with Durban Poison to create Black Poison, which should be high in THCV!

You think these are a good source for rooibaard seeds https://www.jamaicanseedbank.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=117 ? That black poison sounds like its gonna be something special. Also, I know this is a bit off topic does anyone know the genetics of the original jamaican lambsbread or where I can find some seeds of that?Hey Puritybread, welcome to the thread!
