These are the rooters I'm using this round. Apparently we cannot get GH rapid rooters in Canada anymore because they have moisture in them and they can't be brought over the border wet, because our laws are dumb as shit.
These look basically the same, a little more air in them it seems and they come completely dry. The hole for stems is 1/8 which I much prefer over rapid rooters 1/4" hole. Just have to see how they perform. I'm a little nervous they will dry out a bit quicker, but we'll see.

They are much more uniformly formed than RR's for sure. They all looked perfect, where RRs are usually half squished and deformed.
I believe RRs are impregnated with Rapid start though which may give them an advantage. Time will tell how these compare. But so far I like them. Besides the price that is.. these were more expensive for sure.

Hello all!
So, I noticed this thread seems to be loaded with extremely experienced growers. So, I was wondering if some kind soul might help me.. I'm a newby. (And Dirtbag, that is one AMAZING light, totally green over here 🤢!!).. Anyway, this is my first ever grow and I'm getting ready to flip my Dark Star over to flower. I'm set up in a 4x4x7 tent with a Mars Hydro TS600W and a Viparspectra XS1500 on 18/6 cycle. Ventilation is a 6" 390 CFM inline with carbon filter and a couple of oscillating fans. Ambient temps run at 79.5 at its hottest, leaf temps are 83ish.
I'm growing with Fox Farm Happy Frog Soil in a 10 gallon fabric pot. I'm using tap water (ppm before nutes hover around 338 and abt 546 after) with a ph of 6.3, run off ph generally holds around 6. I use Humboldt supplements (Root Enzymes, Golden Tree, Base A&B) along with Cal-mag and Recharge. Will begin flowering nutes when I turn it over.
The plant currently has a 36" circumference and stands just over 33". I've fimmed throughout to keep it short and have done some minimal LST training as it grew.
I've defoliated a few times to keep air flowing and have lollipopped the lower portion of each branch abt 14" up from the bottom removing suckers as I went. Soooo, now that I've melted your brains with my long post.. The question is (sorry, it's really a few but even if you could help with one I'd really appreciate it).. Is there anything I need to do to prep for the flowering stage? Should I lollipop further up? Defoliate further? (Last time was abt 2 weeks ago and it's thick again).

I figure who better to ask than veteran growers... I really appreciate any help or suggestions anyone can throw my way..

THANKS EVERYONE!

A few pics included..

Recharge is not plant food. What it does is convert the soil into food for the plant. When you add it to your grow, you need to cut back on the bottle nutes of you will unbalance your soil and begin getting issues.
Cut your nitrogen by 50% going into flower. It will speed up the transition to flower.
I would de-fol the bottom 60% of the plant.

These signs were two of the many up on the walls in the "shop" @ComfortablyNumb use to work at...Among "other" things... 👍😎
This cracks me up.
How about a little "before and after"...
😂

Nitrogen needs go down bigtime, agreed. Especially into flowering. I'm not completely organic, but more of a hybrid, of sorts these days. (although, some might disagree)

I actually keep a gallon bottle with a bit of rice or corn grain in the bottoms, and a cup of molasses, then put a small spoonful of my organisms in that, then propagate them from there (into my fertilizer bottles for further fermentation) these days. usually adding a bit of whatever specific organism I'm after (or shotgun effects) depending on the stage of growth, or the route it's being offered. (roots or foliar), or if I'm specifically targeting the flowering process itself, or possibility fungi, or root's whatever... But yea, I'm kind of frugal these days; and try to keep my organism/supply cost down, plus I've got a wide variety (over 50, and some very specific, pricy organisms) these days. Shelf life on these things are limited, so purchasing in bulk is not advised. Generally Use all organisms within 1 year, and always keep them cool, dry area, for storage.

I've got way more (species) of organisms, than the sugars I feed them, but I got lot's of those too. Perhaps, nearly a dozen different sugars I currently use.

I'm big into the particulars of this part of the grow these days. Making enzymes, precursors, hormones, and cofactors. It really drives up flowering in a very special way. But be advised, I probably use less than 1 1/2 tsp sugar per gallon (and let it ferment for 12-24 hours), prior to being given, so very trace (precisely measured) amounts, and in (exact) ratio's. I always test (correct) pH of any sugar, (diluted) before offering, or introducing organism. Also add bits of other carbon, such as humics/fluvics to stimulate good microbial counts, paying special attention to pH in particuilar.

Feeding these offer extra carbon cycles to the plant, plus build vigor, (in general) plus create C02 production locally, all good things. Added effects, strength in numbers. The technical term would be synergism. the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.
Synergy

I'm so impressed with the early density, smell, overall health an vigor the plants offer these days, and largely attribute it to this aspect of the grow. Carbohydrates, Sugars, and organisms are so big, with organics, with efficient hydro, or coco, or any substrates, mediums. Builds so much biotic, and abiotic stress resistance, and increases overall weight, and oil production. Drives terpene content. bigtime!

Sunday afternoon day drinking with a bonfire in the front yard. About to bust up some of this fine wedding crasher from my last crop and have a doobie. Amazed how uniform the last crop was. Every bud looks like this in both size and ripeness.

Happy Thanksgiving Canucks, and everyone else alike!

We lost the pix of our bonfires. We call them 'volcano' because of the way we build them.
a 15 or 20 foot base with some trees in the center like an indian tee-pee, then fill it with logs and brush. Cover the bottom half with dirt and light.
A 25 or 30 foot high teepee volcano. It burns internally for a few days.

HAPPY BOXING DAY! or as we Yanks call it, THANKSGIVING!

What it's all about bro, enjoying life.

Ah, wood ash, what a outstanding high quality, low cost, Ag product, and amendment.🙃 I really like burning the hardwood maple up on the property, it burns so very long and hot, with little ash. 😂 Speaking of ash, lol. 🤓 Tthe main chemical component of ash is carbon, with varying amounts of other elements including calcium, magnesium, potassium, and phosphorus, +Si02
Wood ash

All in really good ratio's and energy state. I really think carbon was highly overlooked by myself for a long time, and by many of us, actually. Cause we don't view it like we do traditional nutrient models. What do you think of plant nutrition or fertilizers? Most people, the first thoughts are something along the lines of “NPK,” “CalMag,” or “micronutrients”, or amendments — but these elements collectively make up less than 10% of the composition of most plants.

Whether they know it or not, all cannabis growers strive to sink as much carbon into the grow as possible. All aspects of plant care revolve around carbon, above all else. Cannabinoids and terpenes are roughly 80% to 90% carbon by weight. There is no nitrogen, phosphorus or potassium in a molecule of THC.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.😅

The fucking drunken escapades my dad used to do around the house, and I burnt my fort down at about 9 or 10yo., and was a general stoned pyro growing up. lol, you are not right in the head. 😂

I'm going to be the adult and say this; Keep a hose handy. lol.
I can hear what sounds like concern in her voice; haha. 😜 (Is the fire insurance up to date).

That was filmed the year I joined the fire dept. Lol, pyro through and through. But always safety backups.

ARGHHHH!! I was a volunteer fireman until I went thru the roof, the attic, the living room and stopped in the basement. One of the most scary moments of my life.
I 'retired' as a volunteer after that. 🧑‍🚒
Lol yes we got up to some sketchy shit. I was on our dept for 10 yrs, a lieutenant for the last 4. Nearly died a half dozen times, saved a dozen or more lives, developed crippling Ptsd, good times.

I have nothing but respect for those guys. They live in a different mental zone.
They used to say the same thing about us meat wagon drivers. We code our way to lunch.
