Well it seems the entire industry has swayed that way. Im still a fan of HID lighting. Problem is I have never personally talked to someone who now uses LED that once used 1000 watt HPS.
All these people have something to say about how great their LEDs are yet dont even have (what i would consider) a benchmark grow with a real light to weigh their reviews and thoughts.

Oh man what do I start I've spent five figures probably on HID lighting since 2008 up until around 2017 when spider farmer started coming out with their line of newer boards with Quantum boards in Samsung drivers I bought the first to board they put out did not dimmers or anyting the vegging on the plants was phenomenal but I think they're a little bit stronger than I was used to and I also think that the planets were acclimated to HID lighting because the first two or three girls that would you didn't the plants would like showing weird signs for me I can't speak for anyone else but I imagine as more and more people start growing under those with those LEDs the plants will acclimate I'm thinking I could be completely full of s***

Sup ya'll I have no updates just felt like popping in. Probably have to make a bunch of cuts today, havent made my way to the tents yet.
Ever see someone(loose their mind) decide what shape to grow their plant by drawing a picture? lol Im sure its easier to read in my head own head... Side and top view. Pencil is branches removed. Blue is a partial rain shield.

12 Days no roots yet, should have popped that heat mat on em... Gave in and put them under 12/12 today. Since no roots i'll keep them in a bag for a while. They got watered in with a rooting solution.
I'm 90% set on spiraling the main leader of the winning plants. It goes against their best structure stability but they will be supported so much I dont think it matters. Besides it will look cooler 😁
Decided to get some soil warming cables for April. I didnt realize they were pretty cheap and can just be plugged en.

Spiraling is pretty fun lol

YEah man I have spiraled like 4-6 oz plants but never attempted a spiral on a plant that will be taller than me. ha.
Also in this case the spiral will start after about 2-3 ft of growth and there will be side branches coming from below the start.
My spirals have never doubled over itself either more like a large circle.

So the remaining plants from b-d &1-4 are under the HPS in the flower tent. Tomorrow is day 1. Plant A did show female pre-flower but E was my preferred selection so ill keep vegging both until known for sure.
Will be harvesting exactly when the two winners get planted outside. (Sunday April 3rd is 8 weeks) The 4X4 veg tent will go outside in a protected area at the end of march/beginning of April so that way it will be way easier to acclimate to outdoor extremities. More than half way there now. I will transplant into milk crates with smart pot liners as soon as i'm 100% certain of the sex.

Shit, well, this light seems to be a bit much for the girls since they are drooping and they were watered yesterday.. HID dosent really have working dimmer options ( except for super drive) . So I have to lower my intensity. I would rather not raise the lights so i am using a shade cloth for a few dys in the form of some plastic bin lids.while they are on there i'll use the opportunity to level out the canopy. I have done this in the past for up to 10 days in flower.

They are much happier today (and level). Still a bit droop. Im sure they will perk up. If not I have to raise the RH in there. Another psychedelic blurple photo to show the height of the plants in the veg tent.Once I transplant them into sturdier pots ill move them around for quality photos its embarrassing for what turned into a picture post but atm i don't like the potential extra stress it can cause on the roots in the flexible bags.
It really is time for me to start this spiraling but I have been enjoying growing a plant without harming the main leader. That basically never happens around here. The tall one is "E" and the two shorter are "A,E" at the same height. They are raised from the bottom to equal out the canopy.

Mixed up what I hope is the last batch of soil. Gonna transplant in a few days. Got the smart pot milk crate liners they look to be about 8-10 gallons each. I'm certainly no stickler for "Organic" more a fan of what do I have/whats free so I used what I have.Still the word Polyhydroxycarboxylic is worrisome,
Listed in amount used the new soil consist of:
Perlite, Peatmoss, Coir, Pittmoss, Composted cow manure, Vermiculite, Jonathan green Mag-I-Cal Plus* ( 5 oz ph buffer), Azomite, Neam seed meal(6-1-2), NFTG** one stop granule(3-10-0), Great white premium & granular mycorrhizae ,(king crab mycorrhizae, orca mycorrhizae, FF Big bloom in coir soak)
---
*Calcium (Ca) ........................................ 28.0%
Sulfur (S) ................................................ 1.5%
Iron (Fe) ................................................ 0.5% 0.01% Water Soluble Iron
Derived from: Calcium Sulfate Dihydrate, Calcium Carbonate, Iron Humate, and Soy Protein Hydrolysate.

1% Humic Acid (derived from humus)
1% Polyhydroxycarboxylic Acids (derived from plant extracts) BUT SRSLY WTF IS THIS?
2% Wood Biochar
**
Worm Castings, Ferrous Sulfate, Bone Meal, Fish Bone Meal, Kelp Extract, Alfalfa Meal, Feather Meal, Kelp Meal, Soybean Meal, and Calcite (Limestone)
Calcium (Ca).......15.0%
Iron (Fe).......0.16% (0.16% Water Soluble Iron)
Rhizophagus Intraradices……….0.5 spores/gm

Do you have a pic of the soil? I just got a thing about soil. Oh the porosity, the texture ,the different components.

I'll snap one 2m I left it outside. I feel you mixing substrates is oddly satisfying. I do it by hand now but use to have a lil cement mixer until that shit got salt watered during a hurricane.
I would gladly add more verm but need it for mushroom bags. I really dislike the Pitt moss but it was free and obviously love the idea of a recycled medium.

I love the feeling of mixing by hand. did you add any lime to counteract the acidity of the peat moss?

The Jonathan green Mag-I-Cal Plus brings the ph from 5.7 to around to 6.4 it works immediately, last longer and only cost 10X more than a bag of lime. lol
Either way they are both calcium carbonate, Its made for lawns but I had it for my tomato beds.
The large raised bed these ladies will eventually go in use to be a 2' whole in the ground. Every year I add the pervious years compost, spent mushrooms substrates, spent brewers grains, seaweed, spot amendments. and build up the sides with cobble stones. A decade later its 2' above ground. I cant wait to finally plant the winning laddies in there for my first legal grow ever.( /start new plants over in April if I fail to produce the small trees i'm after.)

For name brand smart pots these things are flimsy/ poorly made. They do exactly what i wanted but nowadays there are some nice fabric pots out there and these are simply garden fabric sowed together.. I guess its cause the milk crate does the brunt work as far as support.
I impregnated the pots with GW premium myco. Put down a small layer of perlite to collect small particles and put some GW granule myco in the perlite. The soil is filed up to the top of the crate and there is still a good 3 inches of cloth

I poured 10 gallons of 6.45 PH water threw the soil and collected 5 gallons of run off with a ph of 6.43, a ppm of 950 & salt was 0.09% I wasn't expecting any salt to show up on the meter but im sure such a low number is okay. (right?) This aloud me to stretch the bags out tight. When it dries in a few days I will transplant.
Anyway I used that nice rich run off to water my plants that just entered flower.

Here it states Sodium Absorption Ratio (SAR)
Acceptable range is less than 10 mEq/L(mEq/l is short for milliequivalents per liter)
But i don't know what that means

Thanks for the encouragement and for following the progress. I really hope it works too, but i'm already thinking about next years 3 plants lol ( preview into my mind 400 gallon smart pot on a 10' tall platform grown topsy turvy tomato planter style)

I took 10 reading with a soil ph meter in the new medium ranging from 6.3-6.7 with the majority landing on 6.4

I also took readings from the run off of my flower plants after watering with the run off.Not good. The ppms were twice as high and the salt went to 0.12% s0o0o they look fine but I know they are approaching a lock out/burn so will start to flush them.I think this is in part to a top dressing of neam seed meal put down to control fungus gnats a bit.
