News Kentucky Kicks Off Medical Marijuana Licensing Program

Governor Andy Beshear announced on Thursday that starting Monday, businesses interested in selling, processing, or growing medical marijuana in Kentucky can begin applying for permits. This move is part of an accelerated effort to make products available to patients by early 2025. Additionally, doctors and advanced practice registered nurses can now submit applications to certify eligible patients to purchase medical marijuana. The process will be overseen by the state's Board of Medical Licensure and Board of Nursing. Kentucky's medical cannabis program, which was legalized in 2023 with bipartisan support in the Republican-dominated Legislature, is set to begin on January 1.
