Hey SH, you said this spot isn't super wide-open. But can you do a wide U-turn w/a dually pickup? If so, it'll work.

And will the four cute dogs, my avatar, bother anyone? Or is anyone bringing any aggressive dogs with them? I might need a little help keeping the four of them in sight so they don't become snackage for a large critter ... I do have an ex-pen that I'm bringing to keep them in, but they won't put up with that for the whole weekend. :)

Ummmm.....if "cute" is defined as "non-yippin'...non-yappin', and not-constantly-barking"...

I just love "cute" dogs, melizzard. LOL.

Not that they are "perfect".....but I have 4 dogs myself. 2 Goldens, a Wheaten Terrier/Poodle mix (a "Woodle'), and a God-knows-what...but we think he's a heeler/chow mix. (5 month old pup). Such is one of the hazards of volunteerring for Rescue groups..... LOL. Are they "aggressive"? Not really...but like me....constant barking will probably piss em off and I can't guarantee they won't get sick of it and react.

However, I'm not 100% sure exactly "who" in the family will be accompanying me on this outing @ this point in time. Some good friends of ours just lost their son in a rafting accident....so the wife may have to opt out of some/all of this weekend if the memorial happens to fall @ the same time. If she doesn't attend we'll probably split the "pack" up into 2/2. If the memorial is another time...we'll be bringing a herd.... including my 17 year old son....and possibly one of his friend's of the same age....

time will tell.....

Well, I never said they were quiet all the time! LOL Seriously, one of them is a bit sound-sensitive and she woofs a bit if she hears something unusual ... but it's a quiet bark and she stops when I tell her to. I have another who is a demanding little bitch and likes to yell at me if she has to pee or I'm not putting her food down fast enough. No matter what, though, they do stop when I get after them. However, I can promise that you won't get thru the weekend without hearing them at all. ;)

Also, dogs will typically not attack another dog just for barking. They're WAY more forgiving than we are! LOL

So very sorry to hear about your friends' son!!!! That's so horrible ... we are NOT meant to bury our children before they bury us!!!!

I'm bringing my american bulldog mix, he's 105lbs of sweetheart. He's been known to get territorial over bones and his food, but that's kinda what dogs do. He can be a bit of a beggar for BBQ if you let him (he makes a very convincing simpathy face that's hard to say no to), but he's quiet unless something like a bear is creeping into camp, and then it's the 3 alarm fire going off. He's a great dog besides the begging, but that's kinda my fault for spoiling him and he'll back off if you tell him to in a firm tone. He'll keep the camp safe, he's a great guard dog but he's also super friendly. Just don't dress up like a mailman! He REALLY hates the mailman!

Hmmmmmm ... it sounds like there will be several large dogs there. Since mine are all only 5-10 pounds each, I'm a little worried. Sometimes these toy dogs can incite the prey drive in a larger dog (seen it too many times) ... even a nice, mellow one ... cuz they kind of move like rabbits. Like a large squeak toy! LOL And a couple of my dogs are very shy. So is it too much to ask that they be introduced to my girls on leash at first? Or maybe it would be best if I didn't come ... most large dog owners let their dogs run loose, and I don't have a problem with that, unless one of them starts drooling over one of my girls. ;) One never knows if they'll take to each other or not. So if it's best that I withdraw, not a problem. Just lemme know what you think.

BTW Sputnik, I ADORE American Bullies!!!!!! They are precious! I despise breed legislation ... every bully breed I've ever met was wonderful. Same for Rottweilers and Dobermans ... I especially adore those black, slick, wiggly Dobies! :) Or did I mean Doobies?

My dog grew up with a chihuaua, so he's used to small dogs. he knows the difference between a small dog and a squirrel and he's great around smaller dogs. I always introduce my dog on a leash, alot of dogs are intimidated by him untill they get to know him. With dogs as small as yours melizzard it's just a sniff and then he seems to loose interest. He's 10 so he's pretty chilled out most of the time.

It's definitely a "family friendly' event....just as long as you don't mind the group smoking weed constantly in front of your kids/etc. My (youngest) kid is 17....and (if he comes) he'll be joinin in on the festivities....so no worries here. We're those liberal parents who let their kids get high/let their friends amass here to get high 'cus they are gonna do it elsewhere anyway....like in the car as we did FARRRRR TOO MANY times.

Can't really advise ya what to do, Melizzard. I'd leave my dogs at home if i could...'cus their presence DEFINTELY takes away from the 'high" and makes it hard to truly relax.... but I diunno if that's a possibiliy or not. I am plannnig on bringing a tie down for each of em if they come and they are being dicks/etc.

And FWIW...ALL dog owners should be aware that even in the National Forest there are LEASH LAWS. If the Ranger shows up (usually complaint-driven but not always) and all of our dogs are running wild we could all face $75 tickets. I had to sweet talk a cutie little Ranger lady out of writing me one once. the ONLY reason she didn't was because we were like 15 MILES back in the woods and there was no one else around.....

and we smelled BAD. LOL. at least I >>think<< that's why we were allowed to skate. LOL

either way...just a head's up. most folks think the forest has no rules.

Yeah, I wish I had someone who could keep them for me, but alas ... not too many folks wanna take on 4 dogs and I can't afford to put them in a kennel ... not that I would do that anyway unless it was a national emergency! ;) I have exercise pens that I carry with me, so when they go out to potty, they go in their pen. But when I'm outside, kicking back, they like to be socializing with everyone. If they're too much of a pain in the ass, I just put them back in their pen.

SH, tiedowns are a great idea ... where do you get some? I might have to find me a few of those ... that could be the perfect solution for while we're chilling ... they could socialize and yet still be restrained and not be able to run off. Yup, the more I think about that, the more I like it!

Sput, in my observation of dog behavior, even the most mellow dog can be sparked by an unbalanced, unstable energy in another dog, so I'm glad you're cool w/leash introductions. Better safe than anyone have an injured puppy ... they're way too precious to risk! Dogs are such a joy!

Heyyyyyy, change of plans!!!! My hubby is going to be in town after all, so he will be keeping the doggies. Just me and my BFF ... no doggies running everywhere. I'll just get my dog fix from everyone else's dogs. Of course, without the hubby there, there's no designated driver. ;)

Hey SH ... you say the campsite is about 1/2 mile off the blacktop ... via a dirt road or what? Also, someone mentioned a pot luck Sat night (no pun intended .... LOL). How will we determine who brings what since we'll be in the boonies without a lot of kitchen space. ;)

I'm so psyched!!!! I can't wait! Someone tell me more about the hot springs ... T-shirt and shorts OK? Never even been to one of those, but I hear great things about the minerals in that water!

I'll bring a grill and marinate some jerk chicken, some corn, and pineapple ginger juice. It sounds like I'll be cookin' rasta styeel, boyyyiiii... I'll bring plenty extra, I can get whole chickens for $.99 a pound from the meat market by my house.

OMG Sput, I haven't had breakfast, am not high, and that sounds AWESOME! ;) I will have a 2-burner stove top, so if anything needs kept warm, that's doable. Hey, I make some pretty damn good baked beans (I'm a Southern girl ... who makes better than a Southerner? LOL) Want me to do them up?
