I have noticed that the skeeters haven't been that bad in the city or in the Northern mountains either. Remember somebody saying that there aren't hoppers as well. It's a little early but should still see some but so far none. Not that I miss either one of these pests except the hoppers are good fish food. Light a fire (if there is no ban) and throw some green pine needles on the flames. The smoke will get rid of gnats chronic.

took a couple days off from fly fishing, will hit some private local water tomorrow...

Humming birds are everywhere this summer. I have never seen so many at the house in the city. Usually see tons at the cabin but not so many down lower. This year it's different. Have 4 feeders out and the little shits drain the things daily. Love smoking a bowl and watching them fight over the feeder in the evening. They usually peak in early August after the young ones hatch.

I have tons of hummers here to, I think they have nests in my apricot trees.

If anyone feeds them make sure you make your own sugar water as most of the commercial stuff crap is tainted with toxic-fake-sugar aspartame and chemical dyes. They are very friendly and brave and I often had my feeders right above my chair on the deck. You can literally look into their eyes up close. The males do a spectacular air show to lure in the females as they shoot straight up in the air and then dive-bomb straight down. Cool shit. I miss CO.

River is on fire.. reports of salmon running, river rose by 1,000, reliable guide reports 60 to 70 fish per boat yesterday on San Juan worms. Guess where i'am headed tomorrow.....FISHON!!!!!!!

yep I fill the feeders with just sugar water, no dye.

The Roufous hummers are back up here, the little orange asshole hummers that camp at the feeder. You don't have to boil the sugar, just stick it in there and shake it up. It will dissolve by the end of the day.

5am, up and at em... A few quick chores, nice breakfast, fire up the hot rod and it's off I go to fly fish the Gunnie. Reports are the fishing is insane. Guides tell me 50 plus fish per boat yesterday one after the other on s 22 nymphs... been 4 long days no FISHON, time now to get amongst em for sure.....Luckiest Chickenman alive...

slow day on the river yesterday, dunno what happened. Did however have a total blast cruising in my 1954 custom hot rod over to the river. the road over is awesome and that car preformed incredibly well. The electronic fuel injected 350 hp engine along with brand spanking new BF Goodrich radial TA tires, fresh set of brakes, 4 wheel disc, made the many turns and hills a blast to drive. The more I drive that car the more I love it.
Also love the fact I cruised thru some of the most scenic areas, The black canyon Of The Gunnison, which IMO is one of the most spectacular drives anywhere and saw less than 20 cars in 50 miles of incredible scenic road. In California it would have been traffic city...A little wore out, will rest up from fishing for a day or two then its......... FISHON!!!!!

My next door neighbor asked me to join him on a 30 mile kayak trip on the Colorado river where it leaves Colorado and finishes in Utah. He has all the equipment all I have to do is provide the smoke. Sounds like a deal to me. Two nights and 3 days on the river should be fun and another new adventure scratched off my bucket list. Gonna do something I have NEVER done before and leave my fly rod at home while on a water trip. No time, to much water to cover and would just be in the way. Thinking some marijuana brownies for dessert should be appropriate.

just back from 14 mile Gunnison float trip, had a fish on while drifting, hit rock, flipped boat, out I went, dropped rod in river, survived the flip, found rod 200 yards downstream...what a day......

Been fishing more locally, have had the river all to myself. Yesterday fished a private stretch and did wel lon Pats Rubber Leg double rigged. Took home a nice 18 inch brown, first fish ive taken all year fried it on griddle with onions butter, sea salt, and tomatoes absoutly amazing....
Today fished another section that was stained pretty well. 6 inches of visablity. Got out of hot rod crossed river fished 15 minutes caught a nice fat rainbow once again on the double pats rubber leg nymph.

You're in one of the best birding states around, being in AZ now. There are areas in the Sonoran desert that are known for seeing lots of crossovers (birds migrating from the south to various northern areas west and east), birds that can often *only* be seen out there. Lemme look it up real quick.
