that reading makes no sense? ph is the same while ppm is rising but then the EC is the same? how much water did you lose? because even with evaporation the ph, ppm, ec should all rise.

Hmmm ec the same and ppm going up? Must be a very tiny amount

Yes it is. Seems like it takes a lot for EC to move seeing as it range is tiny whereas the PPM going up or down 10 is nothing.

ec is 1.5 still. Ppm I believe went from 680 to 700 if I remember right. Ph went up a tad too.

the water level went down in the res by 5mm. I will measure and do the volume math in the morning. The res went down almost 20mm in a few days. So nearly an inch.

Ok makes sense.

Ppm went from 710 to 740 in 24 hours

ph went from 6.2 to 6.1

Water level went down 5mm. My res is 400x650mm. So the volume it went down by is 1,200,000mm which is 1.2L gone in 24 hours.
your ppm will rise when water levels fall. Add water to bring back to the levels and adjust ph. You'll notice your ppm change.

When do I add water? What ppm range am I trying to aim for and why?

also. These LST training clips are the best things ever. Love em. No more tying bs strings everywhere.

nice clip work 🙂
you add water whenever you notice the ppm get to high. in rdwc, growers add autofill and connect to their water source. This way whenever the water levels drop it will autofill. when your ppm get to high the plant can get to much nutrients and show signs.

You prob don't need to yet but getting in the habit of daily top ups is good practice. If ppm rises just top up with plain water and check ppm and ph after if needed.

When they start drinking a lot more you wanna add back with nutrients but can go over that later.

How do you know when to add water though? It surely can’t be a random guessing game. Is there numbers needed?

So I add 1L of plain water each day to replace what’s lost. Then what? When do I stop adding pure water and use nutrients again? When I’ve added 45L (total water in my system)?

As you can tell I’m a hands on learner. I’m sure it’ll make more sense once the plants start behaving and cooperating. They’ve been in there two weeks now and zero progress except some leaves dying.

I am starting to get green algae on the clay pebbles.

my drip rings also suck. There’s gotta be a better way for small young plants to get top fed?

At the risk of overstating the obvious; 29% H2O2 is a strong oxidizing agent, it will bleach your skin, clothes, etc. Be damn sure you're wearing safety glasses and gloves, if not a full face shield; definitely not something you want in your eyes or mouth or up your nose.

please stop telling ppl to use H2O2 in hydro or soil. I only use H2o2 for when i need to sanitize something even the roots but at a very small and dilotatd amounts.

i feed manually. the reason alga is being created is because your light is hitting the water. I mentioned this in your 1st or 2nd page.

Unless i'm mistaken, the theme of this thread is a grower's first attempt at DWC; moreover much of what's been written seems to indicate they are relatively new to the topic. As such, I'm not telling people to use H2O2, i AM telling them that if they do use it, for whatever reason, to take the proper precautions.

Personally, I'll use it to sanitize small parts or run some through my RDWC system during a grow if there's been a root issue. In between runs i much prefer PBW to clean and StarSan to sanitize (or iodophore in a pinch).

ok, sure use it when there is a problem, but you're removing beneficial bacteria and colonies by using H2o2.
I take you use it to clean the algae or the build ups. I just use one of those dishwashing brush and i just clean it with the water that its in the dwc before i change the rez water.
