I asked my vendor that sold me my boards if he would add cree chips. He says that the cree 660nm are 3w and not .5 like the rest resulting in them being under driven. Anyone know the specs of cree chips king brite is using?

SPECIFICATIONS

Power240 Watts
LED512pcs Samsung LM301B +20pcs cree xpe2 660nm+8pcs cree xpe2 730nm+4pcs LG UV leds
Flowering Footprint4'X4' or 5'X5' (2 kit)
Veg Footprint6'X6' (3 kits)
System Efficiency200 Lm/W
Dimensions24.88"X7.68"
Recommended Mounting Height30-40 inches

This identifies the chips but not their specs. The units I bought are using the LM301H chip but I heard that the "H" stands for horticulture and the chip is actually the same as the 301b but I haven't looked to confirm if that is true.

Same as LM301b but has anti sulphurization and is rated with PAR values not lumens. nothing concrete on anything else though

I dont actually know the wattage of the samsung diodes but i picked the cree because ive been told they are more reliable.

At the end of the day if a board lasts a year or a year and a half before failure then its still worth it as bulbs are quite expensive and have to be replaced every 6 months or so

To save cost I bought the epistar. Not supposed to be as robust as cree but the lights I purchased were $121 + shipping where the same unit with the cree was $175 + shipping. I took the savings this time. I have more lighting that I could slip in there if I had to order a new pcb panel if one burns out.
That makes sence also so many options it’s incredible
We’re did you order the epistar from alibaba can I have your contact would like to check those out also thanks

I have not heard that dimming alters the spectrum. I know dimming HID does.

What dimming an LED board does is drives it less intensity and in theory would lengthen it's life.

That would be my guess too. Electrically speaking, is under driving a chip the same as dimming?

I know that I have issues with algae when running old t5s which would indicate a spectrum change. But not sure if that would carry over to cannabis

Yes, under driving a chip means that you've turned down either the voltage or current a bit (might do both) so it's working under less of an electrical load. A board will run cooler that way.

Most mean well drivers for these boards have a pair of trim-pots under a pair of small rubber plugs on the side of the driver. One adjusts voltage. The other adjusts amps. You can dim at the driver if you don't have the add-on dimmer. Most of what Kingbrite sells has the dimmer already with it. Cheaper boards don't have that feature and adjustments are made with a screwdriver behind those rubber plugs.

I actually have one on the way... I bought my first one from the same vendor, he seems to have made some upgrades... He added the dimmer, and changed up the wiring..The vendor is extremely nice and helpful... but I think for my next order for my actual room, I am going to go with kingbrite.. I am looking at probably 10x 240 kits and That pricing you got is incredible. Not to mention, it seems like they have a pretty big following here

I actually like the idea of separate heatsinks like the picture in your last post shows. That gives you so much more flexibility in light placement. However for a tent, the 240w single heatsink models work just fine.

Sounds about right. I just dimmed mine. Although I do have one, I didn't use a kill-o-watt device to find any specific watt usage.

There's another plus I had not mentioned about Kingbrite. They ship fast and most orders arrive in about a week or less. I'm not sure how quickly this one will be delivered due to flu shutting just about everything down in the US. They got it to the shipper rather quickly though. I would understand how a shipment could get slowed down right now if that were to happen.

I'm that way too on a normal basis ... but these days things are not normal so I am willing to be a bit more patient this time. LOL

The boards I ordered come with the epistar chips for the 660nm instead of the cree. Cheaper price point, but I have heard of them burning out on occasion where I have not heard much about that happening to the cree. It's a money thing. The pcb panels are cheap and they are so easy to replace. This is why I chose this route.

The boards with the LM301B or H + Cree + LG are considered the cadillac model right now.

I've only bought quantum boards from kingbrite.
