Fairy rings - each ring started when a mushroom spore germinated in the middle of what is now the ring in the grass. The mycelia spreads outward from the center. The fungus breaks down organic matter and releases the nutrients to the grass, forming the dark ring. With a good rain in the right season, mushrooms pop up in the dark ring.

Cool. We had some over the summer.

I had a single plant that wasn’t making enough humidity so added a lettuce and that was perfect for the 3x3. Lasted from October to February. ( Plant blocked all the light and I had no room anywhere else. )

Do you find the basil flowers all the time? I’m trying to figure out how to have continuous basil but it always flowers on me.
