this is a myth. it's generally good advice so don't be insulted but there are other ways to grow. I used to feed, in coco, full strength, then plain water and alternate, feed, water feed water and it worked very very well. the key to mke sure your rootball is mature and fills the pot. get to the point where you need to feed/water daily and you'll be set.
IMO yes there are other ways but to keep a stable ppm and PH in the media watering with proper nutrient solution to adequate runoff and frequency is the best way to achieve this. Now if you are not doing this then you may need a water only to help prevent a nutrient buildup but its not IMO the best practice for the best results.

The burn still shows in places but overall the plant is looking much better. I found it interesting that it flowers slower and differently than the Psycho I have in soil. Last measurement I fed at 754 ppm and 5.75 ph with a 20% runoff. Runoff measured at 278 ppm but a higher 6.58 ph. Did some more updating to the exhaust as I am approaching the fragrant phase :) Both plants are slightly greater than 42" in width.

8/11/2020 Morning Event
In: 735 PPM 5.80 PH
Out: 25% 458 PPM 6.17 PH

Starting to look at paying more attention to humidity and VPD in the flower tent. I have a set of readings from this morning and then a chart from yesterday. I would like to get a solid set of preferred goals for this room. It is inevitable that things will change as August winds down and the air condition runs less. I can already see the impact of the AC reducing humidity outside the tent area versus when I do not need to use it to cool the house. It is not easy keeping the humidity below 60%.

8112020 Readings
8102020 Temp
8102020 Humidity
8102020 VPD

Those parameters look great to me brother.

Ah ok. I was concerned about two things. First was about humidity rising above 60% and potentially causing me a mold problem in flower. Second was the kPa being above 1.5. I will be honest, I have never worried about either of these things with previous grows but I have set the bar higher this time. I am kicking on the UV bar for 45 minutes mid day cycle to help with mold. Not sure its actually doing anything but I have very few gnats.

And laser temps are showing ~81-82 leaf surface at the top of the canopy mid-cycle.

Day 14 of flower and both plants are looking ok. I did a massive defoliation/pruning/haircut on both plants to thin out the center and bottom for better circulation About 2/3 of a 45 gallon trash bag. I could do more on the Purple Urkle but I stopped and decided to just let it go for now. Lots of dead leaves that I tried to remove and just cleaned both of them up a little bit. Many handfuls of suckers that I clipped and pulled out too. I have looked at the leaves and I feel I can move my LED's up in 5% steps starting tomorrow. First stop will be 85%. UV is running 1.5 hours per cycle now starting on the 6th hour. The Purple Urkle plant continues to lag behind the Psycho in terms of bud development.

The last pic shows a problem I started having this morning after I did my trim job. The initial runoff pours out of the top of the saucer (never happened before) and looks almost the same in terms of darkness as what I am pouring in the top. Subsequently the runoff starts out of the bottom of the saucer (it has holes drilled in it) and it looks like it always has -- much lighter. I can't really get accurate measurements now on my runoff so I am flying blind at the moment. I wonder if somehow I got a tear in the bag while I was spinning the beast around trimming it. Both plants are around 47" / 119 cm in width.
Runoff

Increase in lighting to 85% plus the height increase has my top leaves at 85-86F.

I took the lights from 85% to 90% for a few days and today I ramped them to 100%. I have a fan blowing across the canopy and still its a jump in heat. Leaves are still 81-86F. Ending week 3 of flower with an overall plant width on the PU of 60 inches (152 cm) I am sort of at a crossroads. I am still building out infrastruction for coco grows but I am back to getting faded leaves on the Purple Urkle and have decided to start a couple more soil grows to carry through until the pumps, trays etc are built. Not sure I am fully committed to coco. The bud structure on the Psycho is so much heftier. Feeding 700 ppm solutions with 6.0 PH and runoffs are around 450 with again 6.0-6.2 PH. Fertigating twice daily, 1.5-2 gallons at a time with around 25% runoff. First I will post up some pics of the Purple Urkle in coco and then some Psycho pics from the soil grow.

The Psycho is doing fine though not as deep a green as the Purple Urkle. There are some yellowing leaves on the bottom I need to trim. Its thirsty some days with it taking 4 liters to get any sign of runoff. I am feeding it with a 400-500 ppm solution that matches the coco feed but minus the H2O2. Watering twice daily has reduced the need for 4 liters at a time and I am much more comfortable doing 2 liters one hour after lights on and one hour before lights off. Much heavier bud structure than the Purple Urkle.

Look into auto pots with Coco substrate you might like it. Gravity fed system.

Its been a while since I updated. The Purple Urkle plant is doing ok though not adding any huge bulk to the buds. Trichs are all still crystal clear and I am a couple of days from completing the 6th week. The Psycho plant in soil is a different story. I managed to completely eff that plant up. I think its a combination of being root bound and using the runoff from the coco grow to fertilize this plant. I know - not a genius idea.

Here is the Psycho plant. It really is a bummer as this plant was always doing so well. Its still fragrant and has solidly green leaves in the center and towards the bottom. Trichs are all clear. Live and learn.

Plant is the full width of the tent at 5 feet, extending out 4 feet cross ways. Different bud structure then I am used to. The flowers extend down from the top much farther and not in a solid mass. I counted days in flower from the day I switched the lights but I am thinking from the day the pistils showed is more accurate. The Purple Urkle plant took a long time to show pistils, almost a week longer than the Psycho. Trichs are clear on the Urkle, and clear with amber on the Psycho. I am thinking 2 weeks to harvest on the Psycho, 3 weeks to flush on the Urkle and my outdoor White Widow will get pulled in 4-5 weeks.
