Kind of just beat me to it. I posted about strip builds right after you. I guess gavita went that way too.

Oof looking up the spyderx fluence left me gasping. I'm sure the lights are good and all. But cost way more than I'm willing to spend.

I will see if i saved a link but i dont know much about building these.

Again. I dont know if this is the best way to do this but there are quite a few growers showing impressive numbers and results with these.

I also cant personally vouch for alibaba.

An important facotr is Mars uses SMD Epistar chips where as Kingbrite uses Samsung LM301B or LM301H chips. The samsung LEDs are superior in converting watts to light photons and not just into heat output. Essentially that means watts alone doesn't determine how good a light is.

I'm not sure where you are getting your numbers on the costs.

  • Four 288 boards(480 watts) will not cost more than 320 USD or 424 CAD and that includes shipping
  • Two TSW2000(610 watts) according to your discount would cost 423USD or 560 CAD(unsure if that includes shipping)
The TSW2000 uses more energy, produces less efficient light and costs more upfront. There really aren't any positives going for it in my opinon.

EXACTLY what he said^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Not to mention that Kingbrite quality is second to none, and the other is VERY questionably at best. Kingbrite uses quality Meanwell Drivers. Mars uses something else.
The light in the center is a Unitfarm UFO80 (Cree an d Oshram) that I got free for testing. The long skinny bar is a DIY Far Red light.

The very idea of buying something of lesser quality for FEW $$ savings is shortsighted at best imo.

hlg came out with sabers, but for a 4x4 your still looking at 600-700 dollars, building it yourself. I have an extra driver laying around and thats what I plan to do next.

Kingbright is pretty legit. If I was you I’d buy 2 of the 240w boards with lm301b diodes and Cree 660s. The uv added leds are popular but totally a waste of diodes because of lack of efficacy and life span. They also are barely readable by a meter which means they are useless in that sense too.

Another thing y’all do know that the efficacy (protons as opposed to heat which is the whole reason for changing to led lights more usable protons as opposed to more heat) is higher when your lights are not being used full power.

I have a three strip led light that can run a max of 125w each for a total of 375w total but it would defeat the purpose of using leds as I will be pushing more heat then protons in that instance. So I run them at 80w each and have more protons per watt reaching my canopy.

Honestly if I had the money right now I’d be looking into this light here. Great price. Good diodes and has the added red.

Alright. Some things I've learned from this thread (and a few mins of research online) so far.

1 Alibaba is sketchy as hell. Most of their ads show a picture of something, at a great price. But you go to buy it, and you have to choose options. The price they list is almost always not for the item I the picture. It took me half a dozen links before I found one that was actually what I was looking for. Even then, I read reviews and I've seen more than a few times. "Item never showed up, contacted seller, they never responded." Old reviews too, so assume it never got resolved? When signing up for an account, entering my address. They dont have fields you just fill in. They have drop down menus for country province and city. Well i live in the most main city in my province, Vancouver. It's not on the list. Closest thing is greater Vancouver area, and that's about 6 to 8 different cities. All very large and up to an hour apart or more. So who the hell knows if I ordered something if I'd even get it.

2. Samsung lm301b's honestly kick the shit out of any other led lumens per watt.
Mars uses epistar diodes that have 120 lumens per watt, lm301b LEDs are 223 lumens per watt. That is damn near double. I knew they were higher, but I thought 5%. Turns out it's more like 80%! Wow.

3. Mars no longer uses meanwell drivers.

So in conclusion to my searching, 2 quantum boards at 240w shor be good for my 3x3 tent. Being as the 240w on LEDs rated way higher than any other.
At 300w the Mars tsw2000 would give me about 36000 lumens. 2 quantum boards at 240w would give me about 53000 lumens.

So I'm going to order 2 boards on 1 heat sink. It should be enough, if my numbers are correct.

Nock off or cheap leds are not worth it just use a hps or cmh, if your "testing" what are you actually testing how a crap led does and will not compare to a "real" led. If you have a budget get a cmh or 2. Ive used cheaper than hlg prices and what a joke.

Can you please elaborate on this. In terms of quality. No generic statements. I own an actual hlg 600. What is the difference you are talking about between the kingbrite and hlg.

Also you say you want to get to gavita level. Can you explain the difference on that to please.

I have other build threads but this is the latest that I’m working with

Quantum flower tent lighting upgrade v2 + red and far red

New flower light upgrade from 9 qb132 in 2700k to 5 132qb 2700k, 4 132qb 3000k v2, 4 48 led Samsung strips 660nm:730nm= 1:3 far red + deep red. (24w per) What ya think? Should be a decent improvement. I love these quantum boards and strips, you can always be upgrading and diversifying! I...

The best bang for the buck I have found is the 132’s. I run 9 per 4x4. I run 2 sets of 4 and a single, controlled through cheap pots. I went with typical industrial power supplies set outside of grow area (super cheap). I can share more if interested, @BigCube can we be friends now?

Damn it. Now I'm trying to talk myself in to 2 separate boards. I feel it would be more useful than 2 on one heat sink. Cause then I could move them around for better coverage but also can use them for other stuff when they get older and not be restricted by size.

A wise decision! I'm glad you took the time to look into things and do the research, as now you know how awesome those Samsung LEDs and Mean Well drivers are. They also have Samsung LM301H available which is newer than the LM301B but they are both great chips.
