What have ya got planned today?

Just received two pallets of cinderblock that Dave ordered for a retaining wall. Retaining walls mean MORE GARDENING SPACE! And more LEVEL gardening space. :D Gotta get one last batch of seeds started, I forgot to drop the Lifesaver I picked up into some dirt for a nap.

Oh...?
6,000 lbs of cinder block. Yes...what do I have planned for today? Manually loading said 6,000lbs of block, moving it to the back of the property and then manually unloading it. I probably won't need to incorporate any weightlifting into my workout tonight. *giggle*

Had about enough of this cold weather. Minus 14 at dawn this morning. My poor little pom couldn't even stay outside long enough to do her duty. Had to go and pick her up and carry her inside as her feet got so cold. Yesterday tried to take a walk with the wife and after about 10 minutes had to turn around and bring her back. Not much relief in sight today, supposed to get up to a balmy 10 above. Shit, my cabin in Grand county is 10 degrees warmer.
Lights come on in about 20 minutes and am hoping there is plenty to do in the garden. At least that will give me something to do. Will be in the trim room most of the weekend, wishing that was happening today but still to wet for a dry trim. Olympics start today buy no footage until tonight and I ain't watching days of our lives. Winter Sucks!!!

That's why I love the DVR, putembk.

We are getting some RAIN!!!! Color me wet & happy. :D Got a kitty with her head stuck in my armpit, a dog lazing on her bed, another kitty I don't know where she is and I haven't heard the rooster crow so I'm thinkin' the chickenbirds decided to stay in the coop. And I can hear the rain. I love that sound.

Past couple of days have been crazy. There was a tragedy two weeks ago, the younger brother (19yo) of our ex-daughter-in-law died after taking some kind of cold medicine+canned air combination to get high. Why was he doing that? He was on probation for a possession charge (more War on Drugs, yay!) and couldn't test + for cannabis. He went into cardiac arrest and according to the doctors, he was dead pretty much instantly. 19yo, had already made a huge impact on the lives of people around him, so fondly remembered, yet according to the government out there he was a dangerous criminal who had to be monitored. So the kid just wanted to get high a little bit and paid with his life for it.

She wouldn't be holding his ashes in her lap today if there were no war.

Another new friend was in a pretty horrific accident, pinched and rolled (like she was a roller bearing) between her vehicle and a trailer that a guy was driving through one of the local gas stations. I am amazed her legs aren't broken or gone. We took her food and drink last night, got her kinda lit, had some good conversation.

So today, for the first time this week, I have NOTHING planned.

Wow lot's happening.
20 above at 7 am...Good old banana belt weather. Supposed to get up to 35, partly cloudy..
Sooooo... chores are done, put off the dreaded butchering till tomorrow Sooooo....
Nice breakfast and hit the river bundled up.
Talked to buddy we may have figured where all the fish are and what bug to use, tiny midge small as an ant....
Wife thinks iam crazy, she's right river crazy....
Have not caught a fish or even a strike for over a month ...still love every minute, love to cast no matter what.....
Bringing camera will report.......

Lol, good luck C-Man. River is frozen solid here. Am tying flies and dreaming about when the ice comes off. Yup, midges are on the menu for fish right now. #20's and 22's are what they are mostly feeding on. Try a crystal hair body with a peacock wrapped head/thorax.

Fired up the chain saw and dropped three trees one hickory and two red oaks ...... Can't wait to fire up my smokers this spring (not to mention opening up more space to drop beans)
Neighbor is donating a 200 lb hog for our springtime hillbilly boy BBQ .... now if I can get Carl at the beer depot to donate 2 kegs this year we are halfway there.

Cut down a Russian Olive just before Christmas. Damn thing was sucking the wetland area behind my house dry. Haven't had my chain saw fired up in a while but she started right up. I have a McCulloch that is almost as old as me and it's heavy and bulky compared to the new models. Fricken back hurt for a week after all the chopping and trimming was done. Neighbors are sure loving me, supplied all their fire pit with wood this coming summer. Waiting to see now if I successfully killed the stump.
Just before 10 and the temp is up to a whopping minus 2. Just did a walk through in the garden and unfortunately today not much to do. Will be busy this weekend but bored today.

We need a chainsaw to run the Alaskan mill, so we can mill up some lumber on the property. So far, no bueno on finding a saw.

So its been cool at night (high 30's) so last night I said screw it and left the baby blackberry cutting and herbs out instead of putting in the garage.... Frost when I woke up. :banghead:

Making soup, about to pull a tire off the bike and get it reskinned. Then its time to go to work.

Spend the money on a good one. Buy cheap, get cheap. There is a reason pros dont use that thing from home depot

Absolutely. But he's been trying to find a good used one because what he's looking at new is something like $2K-$3K. Stihl or Husquevarna are what Dave likes (that I can remember!).

I've gone ahead and last week started up a buncha seeds, been keeping them outside in a ghetto greenhouse. I'm thinking that I may be better off bringing them into the veg box or flowering room with a single 600W MH or the T5 over them. Thing is, I want to know which ones are hardy, but this cold is really slowing down germination. A LOT of trips up and down the stairs should I decide they go in, cuz Dave said, "No pussies!" so I went ahead, grabbed my balls and popped a lotta beans.

Many of the first set I did popped. Once big enough they will go in beer cups on a table near a window that gets good sun till I have garden set up. I figure the reason I am popping beans in a starter is because it IS too cold outside to get a proper start. If I was gonna leave them outside to fend for themselves Id have just put them in the ground.

A little extra care now is the price for a good head start later. Nothing is free.

Ah, but on the flip side of that coin is that by stressing them out now, at least in my experience, you end up with plants well able to handle whatever nature throws their way later on in the season. I just want faster is all.

Gots to butcher chickens then off to a neighbor who had a apparent heart attack. they don't believe in hospitals so she revived him with CPR, he's doing ok, real scary not to go to hosp., but that's how they are last time in hosp. he got infection and almost died so they choose not to go.
bringing them firewood, eggs, ground beef, some meat pies and whatever else I can scrounge up round here to help them out, too proud to ask I just deliver...
Busy day, but this just came up and we must drop plans and help.......
still getting baked however........

Been in the trim room last day and a half. FINALLY DONE!!! Gonna have to do it again next weekend, only one plant this time so won't be as bad. Another storm moved in overnight, seems like a daily occurrence anymore. Cali just got a good drench. Hope it helps those folks. Gonna need this weekly for the next 3 months to catch up. Maybe this is a good sign. Our mountains are sure getting it this year. Runoff is going to be a bitch for fishermen but the rafters are gonna love it. Hope all are having a good Sunday.

We had a very good day yesterday, if a bit on the welcomed wet side. Did a quick Costco run, then went out to dinner (mediocre at best Mexican place) and then we went BOWLING. I haven't been bowling in a few years and I think it's been longer for Dave. We had some fun, closed the place down at 7pm.

7pm? You rebel!

Home DePot for water heater parts because cold showers suck. See how trees and bushes looking while there. Always find a few things I need.
Nursery to see if soil/manure shortage has been solved. Check on their trees/bushes are looking
Fix said water heater
Move more boxes into house from garage and unpack/sort them.
tidy up garage
Dishes/Dust/Vaccum/laundry
Maybe get another yard of gravel spread on the driveway.

Seems like I am always in the garden. Taking fresh cuts and drenching the rest with fresh batch of tea. Flushing on Wed. on and on....
