Yes he has some great video's, I have seen many of them. The point I am trying to make is the stretch ppl post about is not an issue. There is nothing wrong with 3-4". Not a single negative effect.

I am well aware of spectral effects on plants. Also there effects on different stages of growth. I'm trying to dismiss this stigma that it is bad or a problem.

Your efforts for dismissal are noble, and I dare say a fool's errand. You've been here longer than I, and I'm sure you are noticing upon your (also) recent return that the same threads are still popping up daily due to failure to use the search function.

We've got a new generation of forum users popping up, and they're different than us old timers -- they want answers spoonfed to em.

They don't have the patience to slouth through thread after thread to find that answer they seek. So, instead they dig up five year old threads, or even better, start a new thread, where other newcomers pile onto the persistent onslaught of duplicate information, which eventually renders forums useless.

Ah, reminiscing of the OG days now....

It can be a bit extra in power draw - but the runtimes are fairly short if the source is strong enough. I have to admit - if I was using CMH, I probably wouldn't be fussing about it as much.

I would note that Dr. Bugbee really hasn't covered the more exotic aspects of blue light just yet, AFAIK. I've been relying mostly on published papers to figure out whats important and what others are doing in their practice. I chose to use LED several years ago and the blue spectrum has always been the lagging technology in solid state. So figuring out how to fill out that part has been a rabbit hole. There is some really wild shit out there for light sources

Honestly if power and heat were not in my mind mainly power I would be all over a CMH/HPS combination.

I'm in love 😍😍😍

60 bucks you can get a black box just for uv/ir diodes. Gots me 3 of em. Does it work? I have no fuckin clue. Sure does make me feel good tho.
In the research I have done... I think it was migro who tested a bunch of UV bulbs.

The best budget option with the closest ideal UVA to UVB was the repti Glo or repti sun I can't remember which. 5.0 not 10.0 reptile bulb

So that's a yes to sending me your old RDWC system? 😁
Haha oh man... I would totally do it if I didn't have ideas of possibly going back to it. I will 99% go coco after this. If I stay it's yours. You just have to remind me cause that's a ways off and I'm not so good on the memory anymore.

I can give you info on every single piece to make it for now though. Very easy to do

Speaking of IR diodes, the cheap ass Growstar lights on Amazon have IR diodes. Dunno if they do a damn thing, first round with LEDs, but at $80 for a 600W equivalent light with COBs and a really respectable spectrum, we'll see what two of em do in a 4x4 tent. need to pop more seeds, my numbers be lackin' for my goals this year outdoor, but plant on running two strains in it under em with 1200W equivalent LED, on these uber cheap LEDs. Also not affiliated, since everyone's hustling a company's product *name drop*

I have been using a 10K finishing bulb along with a HPS for flowering, s I'm being told that the finishing bulb has an increased UVB component... I eve nthink I can smell a whiff of Ozone at times. Would this be about the same as a CMH? I thought the extra UV in the CMH was the reason everyone likes them, although I don't know much about them. Am I mistaken?

Honestly, I'm ~$2000 into this season and my old lady is pissed because I'm still not done spending lol. My home office has become a noisy, hot, humid environment that while great for plants, sucks for me writing code haha.

I also like my car in the garage. 80F + 60% humidity + a WRX = a rusted riceburner and a grumpy daddy lol.

Some day, when my old lady gets rid of all the shit in the shed I'll consider a bigger scale, more technical hydro system. I'm just bullshittin', seeing as dirtbag is going hydro and you're going dirt.

You'll love coco man, did it for about five years and it turned me off of soil forever. Too fuckin' easy to get insane growth rates without the flooding problems and all the other accessories needed for full hydro.

CMH is a pretty good analog to sunlight - designed for optimal color rendition ( retail car lots, for example ) spectrum matters in lots of applications.

Instant gratification. I have noticed the ebband flow of the topics on this forum for a while, and I DO get tired of answering the same questions 90% of the time, often on deaf ears. In the spring, you see a zillion posts about popping beans, followed by posts of seedling issues. During the summer you get a montage of everyone's garden and questions about flowering start up. After an onslaught of flowering questions gears shift to the "curing" and drying techniques. Things really slow down in the winter and you often see "boredom"grows, where someone is trying to grow a plant under a table lamp and not having much luck. Once the worst of winter passes, the topic of cracking beans arises again.
Rinse.
Repeat.

That's exactly why I would do HPS CMH combo.

I'm not sure how much uv the 10k has bit that sounds like a good combo if the UV is there

My biggest attraction to them is the spectrum. They cover such a wide spectrum, it's almost wasted money to run MH and then switch to HPS during flower. They were (a decade ago) the first full grow light. Unfortunately the price hasn't dropped. Still pricey bitches, even for 315W

Now this is more accurate than the farmer Almanac

I remember papapain, tnelz, and seamaiden used to always respond those threads with the "rules" and a copy-pasted instruction manual for locating the search function, with screenshots mind you, and would answer the question in very terse terms.

For a minute, this place was much like OG.... just a wealth of insanely good info being compiled and discovered. At some point, people either got hemmed up, or life happened and fell off. Aqua Man is one of the few old timers I've seen, and we both came back around the same time after getting fucked by life for a while.

But you're right, when I first joined like seven years ago, it was this ebb and flow crap. It's irritating as all hell. Of all the weed forums (GC, IC, etc), this spot has the best information. I worry now that it's turning into another spot for teenagers with detached parents like the other spots. Especially since they've merged thseedbay with the forum, changed the platform entirely, and buried the search function in a menu.

I am running a 10K bulb for the UVB and supposed increase in THC levels as well as a HPS, both 1000w. The HPS really makes a difference over just using a 3200K MH for flowering, but a 6K 1000w MH is great for vegging, so I swap out bulbs when going into flowering. During vegging, I think I use a 6K and 3200K bulb... trying to get the best of both worlds. The bulbs also keep things toasty, otherwise I think things would be a tad too cool. IMHO.

If I had to add up the hours I spend researching and reading threads and got paid half of min wage I could quit my job lol. And I couldn't hold a candle to those old timers.

Yup I would run both spaced for overlapping coverage. But those are dreams to have the space equipment and height to do so for me.

Its really fucking cold in my lab in winter. my posts do tend to the bitter then.

I'm getting old, and don't mind the youngsters so much. Circle of life and all. And yes indeed, we have said all this before.
I agree I don't mind helping at all some things can be easily found and you can always tell the people that try by the thought they put into the question they ask.

I sometimes point this out when I see someone who has put in the effort but tbh I could do a lot better job at that
