Holy Heck! That fire is out of control. Everybody needs to keep seamaiden and her family in mind. Things are getting hairy. Trying to get a hold of old friends out in Muk Hil, and it doesn't look good......

On a side not, seed vault just starting carrying Mota Rebel gear. Is that Loran, or is Loran part of that crew? Looks like they have good gear, you recommend them right?
Loran works with Mota, as part of his crew, but that said there are offerings with the Mota label that are straight from Loran. (And I'll tell anyone, I'm as stoked now as I ever was about this partnership!) Yes, I do recommend, highly. :)

Oh... no, Moke Hill got hit pretty hard. Have you been able to get in touch with them yet?

Still not able to get in touch. Starting to put out feelers to friends of friends. Looking at the maps of the fire, and where they live, it's WAY TOO CLOSE for comfort. GCG is a great guy, and his crew. They taught me a lot of what I know today, and helped me when I was looking for my place. I would do anything if they need help ATM. Seems like the best I can do right now is keep them in mind, and hope for the best.

Please let them know that if I can help, I will. I am so, so sorry.
yea its scary. I moved to oregon from Buckhorn/pioneer area. My grandma and grandpa live off railroad flat road past glencoe to, haven't heard from them yet.
You should get in touch with the Red Cross operating out of Valley Springs. If you're on Facebook, join one of the fire & police groups, there are several. The folks at CALFIRE may be able to give you more information on how to find someone who's been evac'd, too.

Got a hold of GCG, and it's bad. He lost 4 gardens to the fire, and his house is surrounded by flames this time yesterday. Not sure if the house still stands. They decided to come to my house instead of stay at a hotel any longer. I hope they are here only for days, and not months because their house burned down.......:(. Keep GCG in mind everybody, and all the others effected by the fire. The newest update that I have seen says 85 homes burnt........that is a good % of the population up here. Everybody knows everybody, and everybody is feeling the effects of this fire.

Oh, I am so sorry to read this. I'm sure they know by now that Tom Liberty lost his home, too. I have another friend in MR, haven't spoken to him in about a year but I have a bad feeling. Mountain Ranch is pretty much gutted, likely Jesus Maria is gutted, too. :(

Yes, PG south of 88 is evacuated and still evacuated. But that's where the only containment line is holding, too. And I offer because I can, we're still here. It's probably too close for a lot of people and we're keeping ourselves packed up with the pets kept inside. But I've already experienced wildfires, I know how bad it is.

looking awesome bulldog.

everything is looking on time! How close to harvest you figuring? I got a while yet, first ones won't be ready for atleast 10 + days, most closer to 3 weeks...hopefully weather will allow it.

do you find the massive smart pots, or the raised beds to work better? I been debating my plans for nexts years greenhouse. Going to a 15'x70' greenhouse, thinking gravel floors. 200g smart pots vs large raised beds...that's the next choice. Raised beds seem nice to be able to cover crop easier during off season, and rototill them.

Anyway, thanks for those awesome pics,

Stay free, stay high

@papapayne Everything will most likely finish mid to late October. I like to push my strains and let them ripen as much as they want. I usually don't have weather issues, being in a greenhouse. However some of the strains started to flower early, and might be finished in the next 10-14 days. One of my Goji Og's started to flower mid July, and is looking pretty close to done. I could harvest her if I wanted, but like I said, I like to fully ripen my flowers.

Smart pot vs raised beds

Depending on your water demands, temps and humidity. Smart pots are fantastic growing pots. They leach out water as fast as you can put it in. This means you would have a hard time over watering, and the air that this draws into the root zone is second to none. Smart pots are easy to store in the off season, and have thousands of uses as well as a worm farm. Smart pots also keep gophers out, that is big for me.

Raised beds are another fantastic way to grow our beloved plants. Raised beds will hold water much better than a smart pot. You can over water a bed, but being raised, it's hard to over water. Cover crops in the off season are easy to till back in. Can climb and work on the raised beds. Can support t-posts with just screws attached to the bed, so no driving in t-posts. I also find raised beds to keep the soil more even. I don't know if this is because of less oxegen moving in the soil, or what. However I find my beds keep the ph and nute levels better than my smart pots.

I have some numbers going for this year, and when everything is done I will post up my watering numbers. I kept track of how much water each plant in my garden is receiving. I plan to divide that by the number of #'s each plant gives me. That way I know how much water to expect each plant to use next season, and start extrapolating out this information for others. I have already noticed the smart pots are taking about 15-25% more water than the beds.

For me personally, I like beds better than smart pots. Overall performance of beds is better, water usage is lower, easier to attach supports. However smart pots are great as well. Might use less soil with smart pots. I would consider that a disadvantage, but maybe your budget wont.

Greenhouses

Man, if your looking into a greenhouse then check out Farmtek. They have the highest quality light dep greenhouse in the country right now. Here is a bit from an email I just received from Zack at Farmtek.

"
Make sure you check out the detail we built into brackets, the cabling system and the leading edge system with gasket.

This is going to monopolize the market – no other company has the resources that we have to pour into a system like this (fully staffed R&D department, laser cutting tools, state of the art CAD equipment) not to mention the support we offer with a fully staffed customer service department.

Looking forward to doing business!"

Look into the s1000 model. I am starting to design my next greenhouse as we speak. Let me know if you need any help. This will be the 4th greenhouse I have been involved with, and the 3rd I will build. Fully automated blackout greenhouse.........I think I just peed a little. Cost will be around 50k.

I spy caterpillar eggs! Even with applications of Og Bio War every three days. Maybe tonight I will give them some spinosad. Too late for BT, IMO.

Been picking those buggers off for about 3 days now. They are coming on strong.
Disagreed, I'd still use some Bt.

My jaw hit the floor when I saw the GH shots. Because I know how high the ceiling is!!!!

I have been spraying every three days, and I get the feeling the BT would start to leave a musky smell in the buds at that rate. However you may be correct, even at those rates, BT is a very safe product.

That GH is 17' to the ridge vent, and 14.5 feet high to the purlin rafters. (the cross members, I think they refereed to them as purlins) I have a pretty solid canopy of large nugs going. I would say around 25' x 40', to be conservative. Next year I am contemplating a later plant date, and still fill the canopy with 6' plants. However, there is something to be said about the root system of a giant plant. Even if the canopy is the same square footage, I believe the nugs will be of higher quality, denser, bigger, more mildew and bug resistant. All because of the extra energy that a giant root system will provide.

So far, super happy with my new beds, large greenhouse, soil, nutrients, teas. Now I just have to work hard on an IPM program this winter. If it wasn't for broad mites, I would of had a great season. I still will end up with good yields, (thanks to everybody's help) but the extra effort to get there almost broke me physically and mentally.

Everything looks amazing still after having to battle broad mites and cattapillers. Your experience definitely shows. Good job man!
