Well I know the breeders i get from know their stuff. But that’s all besides the point. Buying cuts that much closer to just buying the flower to me. That’s just me though. Even though not keepers per say, I’ve been rather happy with my results.
Good analogy but lets be honest man.. how many people have the knowledge, time, or desire to do it all properly. Love to all breeders. 💚

For sure, to each their own. It’s about what your goals are. This a hobby for fun for me as a life long toker. But someone looking for washers might have a diff approach. Or someone with a commercial facility in a competitive market. Or someone looking to breed. Etc.

Pretty sure there's room for both. It's fantastic to have a hunted pheno that you know will give you what you want. It's also nice to pull out something that none have your buddies have seen and say "try this".
One mans pheno hunted $20 clone is another mans $400 elite clone. But besides the price, what makes it elite? When are the 95% considered garbage? I would think most commercial growers are more concerned with big yields fast. A few trips to any Oklahoma dispensery, and you know they aren't concerned with terps and potency. So who buys the $1000 clone? Is it the personal use med grower, who is able to get outstanding cuts for $25 -30. There are places around here selling unbelievable cuts for $35, I don't know how it can get much better.
So I'm still wondering wtf makes a legal seed or cut worth $1000. I guess I'll never know.

Personally, I don't believe in "elite" cuts per se. Yes, maybe you will get the once in a lifetime plant and then maybe you can call it "elite" but generally even if it's a rare phenotype it would seem that maybe it would pop up in someone else's grow at some point.

I’m sure you are onto something. A lot of states allow 6-12 plants for personal and I think that is a bigger market than some realize. Full transparency, I have recently started buying said “elite” clones. I have very much appreciated the instant improvement in my garden. And far far from a breeder but Id be more apt to cross some of my male regulars with my clones than pheno hunted fems. To each it’s own.

IDK about others, but I get bored with even the most elite clone ever. I need at least 4-5 different jars of elite bud. All it takes is a couple lucky crosses and you never have to buy again.

That’s probably why they charge so much for seed. It all starts with a seed!

Honest question. What did pound of dank go for in 90s? Highest prices I’ve heard were in Michigan during a very brief period after pandemic. Like $4800 a pound?

I can believe it! Around here there is a phenomenon called, secret sessions. Someone rents a hall on the sly, then rents tables to people who want to sell their shit. Just one of the ways to get buyers and sellers together. Illegal. But I haven’t heard of any busts going down yet.

$2400 in my world. And contrary to popular fake news outlets, it was just as good as anything today. Of course, if you got caught your life was ruined forever... No risk - no reward I guess.

At a Dispensary? A lot of folks grow to avoid having to go to them.
Dispensary's are the same (60 bucks a eighth more or less) pretty much anywhere in the states no matter how for a grassroots glut there is, like those pretty, bone dry machine buffed nugs are worth the $$$. 🤷‍♂️
